Try that to some of our local hive owners and things can go really sideways really quick if you’re caught. Even if there’d been a way to get those bees out of the cold most if not all would probably have starved as they rely on the stored honey to eat during the winter.
It takes quite a while for hives to build up and become productive and there’s a lot of work in maintaining a commercial hive. I’d say that a better punishment would be to put the vandal’s sentencing on hold for twelve months and assign them to doing all of the hive maintenance for a year. One screwup right to quitting time on day 365 and they get the full ride, no probation, no parole, straight to lockup. Nice thought but you’ll never see it.

It will be good for the dogs to get some extended time out today, although they did go on what my husband calls the perimeter check this morning. Apparently they thought 20 was really warm, or they had cabin fever.

American Airlines, Southwest employees to get tax bill bonus

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-tax-airlines/american-airlines-southwest-employees-to-get-tax-bill-bonus-idUSKBN1ER1WN

(Reuters) – U.S. airlines American Airlines Group Inc (AAL.O) and Southwest Airlines Co (LUV.N) said on Tuesday that they would give their employees a $1,000 bonus in light of the recent U.S. tax bill.

The airlines join a host of other companies such as AT&T (T.N), Boeing Co (BA.N) and Wells Fargo & Co (WFC.N) promising to pay bonuses or invest more in training after the biggest overhaul of the U.S. tax code in 30 years, which cuts the corporate tax rate.

American Airlines will distribute the bonus to each team member, excluding officers, at its mainline and wholly owned regional carriers, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters. The distributions will total approximately $130 million and will be made in the first quarter of 2018, the company said.

Southwest said in a statement that as well as paying the bonus to all employees in January, it was increasing its fleet investment with Boeing (BA.N) and had donated $5 million to charitable causes.

The new legislation would “result in meaningful corporate income tax reform for the transportation sector in general, and for Southwest Airlines, in particular,” said Southwest’s Chief Executive Officer Gary Kelly.

I’ve seen plenty of the Democrats talking about the “damage” this is doing. First, it was always our danged money. They seem to see it as the government giving money back to conservatives only (would that be because they don’t think any of their caucus works for a living?), and second, Gawd how I wish they would take even a basic economics class. Or read an article or two. Who would I rather have the money go to, the government or the go back to the workers who paid it in anyhow?

Now that I think about it, why isn’t it a requirement that any elected official should have to take basic economics and pass it prior to assuming their duties? Not that they would care, but still, they ought to have to pass it anyhow. And now that I am thinking, anybody who wants to draw welfare and food stamps ought to have to pass basic economics too, before they get any checks.

How any group of voters or politicians can think that it is better for a country’s economy to take money from the working class and give it every year to people who reproduce for a living is beyond me. Oh wait, they don’t care if it’s better.

Excellent piece from Daniel Greenfield this morning:
    https://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/268884/how-trump-really-beat-media-daniel-greenfield

Trump beat the media by playing on its private motivations rather than its public ones. And now he’s mocking its hypocrisy in the pages of its top paper while it responds exactly as he wants it to.

President Trump needs the media to hate him. And the media needs him to hate. Trump benefits politically from that relationship, but the media only benefits financially from it. The media’s Trump rage ended Hillary’s career, put a Republican in the White House, pulled us out of the Paris Climate Accords, brought in the Muslim travel ban, recognized Jerusalem and did all the other things the media wails about every second of the day. And the media helped make them happen.

    Who America Stands With

In the final days of 2017, the biggest anti-government protests in Iran since 2009 broke out. Demonstrations have now spread to at least 20 cities across the country.
“Years of mismanagement, corruption, and foreign adventurism have eroded the Iranian people’s trust in their leaders,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said. “The Iranian regime spends its people’s wealth on spreading militancy and terror abroad, rather than ensuring prosperity at home.”
US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley delivered a clear message at the UN yesterday, warning the international body that it cannot afford to repeat the mistake it made in 2009 by staying quiet.
“We must not be silent. The people of Iran are crying out for freedom.”

    The forgotten American idea

James Pinkerton—co-chair of the bipartisan RATE Coalition, which stands for “Reforming America’s Taxes Equitably”—weighed in on the Republican Tax Cuts Act over the weekend in an op-ed for The Hill.

Pinkerton’s thesis? In polarized times, it’s easy to let partisan instincts cloud what should be a bipartisan consensus. “It should not be forgotten that the idea of using lower tax rates to stimulate growth is not just a Republican idea—it’s an American idea,” he writes.

“The soundest way to raise the revenues in the long run is to cut the rates now.” Those words didn’t come from President Donald J. Trump—or even President Ronald Reagan.

They are from Democratic President John F. Kennedy.

Looking back on year one of #MAGA

As President Trump and his Administration dive into a long list of priorities for 2018, it’s worth looking back on how far America has come in just one year.
    • $5.5 trillion in tax cuts, 60 percent of which go to families
    • The lowest unemployment rate in nearly 17 years
    • 22 regulations eliminated for each new one enacted
    • A record-setting 12 conservative federal circuit judges confirmed

And that list barely scratches the surface. See the full year one breakdown here. https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/president-donald-j-trump-year-one-making-america-great/

Trump: Palestinians unwilling to talk peace, so “why should we make any of these massive future payments to them?”
January 3, 2018 9:13 AM By Robert Spencer

For years the U.S. has been showering billions upon various entities, hoping to buy their loyalty or at least compliance. We’ve been played for easy marks by the sharpies of the world. President Trump is calling a halt. He is the first President even to threaten to call a halt. This is the first administration to show that intimidation and bullying are no longer currency in the White House.

    1 cup chopped pecans
Sift sugar cocoa & chili powder in a large bowl.
Melt cheese & butter in a double boiler (no microwave). The cheese & butter will never look completely mixed together, instead having a swirled appearance. Add bourbon & vanilla. Pour cheese mixture into the dry ingredients, add pecans & stir. Spread into a 13×9″ glass dish until even. Do not chill. Allow to cool completely, uncovered on the counter top. When cooled to room temp, cut into squares.

Manufacturing in the U.S. just accelerated to its best year since 2004
    Katia Dmitrieva in Bloomberg Markets

Bloomberg Markets reports that “U.S. manufacturing expanded in December at the fastest pace in three months, as gains in orders and production capped the strongest year for factories since 2004,” according to data from the Institute for Supply Management.

The acceleration is fueled by “more domestic business investment, improving global economies and steady spending by American households,” Katia Dmitrieva writes. Timothy Fiore, ISM’s manufacturing survey committee chairman, explained that the poll was taken before tax reform passed in December— and its passage will provide companies with even greater incentives to invest.

Trump “keeps defying his critics.” While some on the left bemoaned the President’s potential impact on the economy, Moore says that “since the day Donald Trump was elected . . . the Dow Jones industrial average has risen by some 35 percent, making the last 14 months one of the greatest bull market runs in history.”

In Real Clear Politics, David Ignatius argues that President Trump is right to tell Iran that the world is watching. “Think of the Iranian uprising as a bottom-up revolt by people who feel they’ve been ignored by a corrupt elite,” writes Ignatius. Well, well, well, this nice man and his very pregnant wife who were captured while “backpacking” in Iran, and were finally released and accepted back into Canada, after refusing help from America because he was afraid he would be jailed, is now accused of rape. Surprise, Surprise!!

“On Tuesday news broke that Boyle had been arrested on December 30th and was still in custody as he faced 15 charges including: eight counts of assault, two counts of sexual assault, two counts of unlawful confinement, uttering a death threat, and administering a noxious substance. Police also laid a charge against Boyle for misleading police – media reports indicate he reported someone as missing and suicidal in order to divert police away from himself shortly before his arrest. According to court records, the alleged incidents occurred between October 14, 2017 – the day after the family arrived back in Canada – and December 30, 2017.”

Nevertheless, I’ll be shoveling tomorrow. I’m freakin’ John Henry against a Toro.

Gimme a lightweight plastic, no-metal-strip shovel, and I’ll clear an alley faster than a guy with a snowblower. A small snowblower, anyway. And I’ll have more back pain than that guy, too.
