Community Raises $30,000 In 2 Days For Beekeepers After Their Hives Were Destroyed By Vandals

If those vandals are caught, put them and the bees in the same room for a couple of hours……..

My thoughts exactly. Good morning Col. ❤️.

Try that to some of our local hive owners and things can go really sideways really quick if you’re caught. Even if there’d been a way to get those bees out of the cold most if not all would probably have starved as they rely on the stored honey to eat during the winter.
It takes quite a while for hives to build up and become productive and there’s a lot of work in maintaining a commercial hive. I’d say that a better punishment would be to put the vandal’s sentencing on hold for twelve months and assign them to doing all of the hive maintenance for a year. One screwup right to quitting time on day 365 and they get the full ride, no probation, no parole, straight to lockup. Nice thought but you’ll never see it.

Man, I wish I could trade with you guys! Feels like springtime in Alaska, 40 degrees and dripping everywhere. The ground is a slick sheet of ice with water standing on it, which defies the normal person’s (or dog’s) ability to walk on it. Cleats are required to leave the house. We usually have these warming-up spells for a week or two at least twice between December and March, and everybody hates them. Soon enough the temps will plunge to sub-zero and another foot of snow will fall. And we’ll all be happy.

Holy cow, Tundra! I think I’d rather the lowest of temps but being able to walk when I do go outside! On the other hand, what I wouldn’t do to have a little of that warmth!
Just goes to show that no matter how bad one’s weather may be, someone else can, and likely does, have it worse!!!

I know what you mean, I still have my strap-on Ft Richardson ice-walkers. They are buried out in the garage with my Mickey Mouse boots though there’s scant chance I’ll ever need them here – any ice made overnight becomes gumbo mud by noon.

czar, you got bunny boots?? Black ones or white ones? I’ve got both, and Stabilicers which are the very best strap-on cleats. And Ice Bugs, the boots with built in cleats. One can’t have too much variety when it comes to winter gear. It’s all good.

White, we worked snow fields so it was part of the camo. Strap-ons were GI issue with diamond shaped cleats…almost got me killed in an incident in Utah. Bunnies were the blow-up GI ones, warm, warm, warm.

White bunnies are the best, bar none. Keep your feet warm even if they get wet. Heavy though. DH wears a size 13, and his are about 7 lbs each. Hard to drive a vehicle with ’em on, especially standard transmission.

Tell me about it, ALL of our military vehicles used to be standard trannies – no heat in them to speak of either and the only shock absorbers they had was your butt. Bunnies sure beat the leather boots though, they’d get wet, freeze and give you frost bite.

You know, I used to order the cheapest thing on the menu, drink the cheapest wine or mixed drink, buy the cheap cut of meat. Then, one day, I worked up the price for the next most expensive, the the next, & it was often less than a cup of fancy coffee! So now I order what I want, & I buy the steak I want at the store. Now, I’m still not buying expensive wine, but I know what I like so I get that.

American Airlines, Southwest employees to get tax bill bonus
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-tax-airlines/american-airlines-southwest-employees-to-get-tax-bill-bonus-idUSKBN1ER1WN
(Reuters) – U.S. airlines American Airlines Group Inc (AAL.O) and Southwest Airlines Co (LUV.N) said on Tuesday that they would give their employees a $1,000 bonus in light of the recent U.S. tax bill.
The airlines join a host of other companies such as AT&T (T.N), Boeing Co (BA.N) and Wells Fargo & Co (WFC.N) promising to pay bonuses or invest more in training after the biggest overhaul of the U.S. tax code in 30 years, which cuts the corporate tax rate.
American Airlines will distribute the bonus to each team member, excluding officers, at its mainline and wholly owned regional carriers, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters. The distributions will total approximately $130 million and will be made in the first quarter of 2018, the company said.
Southwest said in a statement that as well as paying the bonus to all employees in January, it was increasing its fleet investment with Boeing (BA.N) and had donated $5 million to charitable causes.
The new legislation would “result in meaningful corporate income tax reform for the transportation sector in general, and for Southwest Airlines, in particular,” said Southwest’s Chief Executive Officer Gary Kelly.

I’ve seen plenty of the Democrats talking about the “damage” this is doing. First, it was always our danged money. They seem to see it as the government giving money back to conservatives only (would that be because they don’t think any of their caucus works for a living?), and second, Gawd how I wish they would take even a basic economics class. Or read an article or two. Who would I rather have the money go to, the government or the go back to the workers who paid it in anyhow?
Now that I think about it, why isn’t it a requirement that any elected official should have to take basic economics and pass it prior to assuming their duties? Not that they would care, but still, they ought to have to pass it anyhow. And now that I am thinking, anybody who wants to draw welfare and food stamps ought to have to pass basic economics too, before they get any checks.
How any group of voters or politicians can think that it is better for a country’s economy to take money from the working class and give it every year to people who reproduce for a living is beyond me. Oh wait, they don’t care if it’s better.

Excellent piece from Daniel Greenfield this morning:
https://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/268884/how-trump-really-beat-media-daniel-greenfield
Trump beat the media by playing on its private motivations rather than its public ones. And now he’s mocking its hypocrisy in the pages of its top paper while it responds exactly as he wants it to.
President Trump needs the media to hate him. And the media needs him to hate. Trump benefits politically from that relationship, but the media only benefits financially from it. The media’s Trump rage ended Hillary’s career, put a Republican in the White House, pulled us out of the Paris Climate Accords, brought in the Muslim travel ban, recognized Jerusalem and did all the other things the media wails about every second of the day. And the media helped make them happen.

Who America Stands With
In the final days of 2017, the biggest anti-government protests in Iran since 2009 broke out. Demonstrations have now spread to at least 20 cities across the country.
“Years of mismanagement, corruption, and foreign adventurism have eroded the Iranian people’s trust in their leaders,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said. “The Iranian regime spends its people’s wealth on spreading militancy and terror abroad, rather than ensuring prosperity at home.”
US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley delivered a clear message at the UN yesterday, warning the international body that it cannot afford to repeat the mistake it made in 2009 by staying quiet.
“We must not be silent. The people of Iran are crying out for freedom.”
———–
The forgotten American idea
James Pinkerton—co-chair of the bipartisan RATE Coalition, which stands for “Reforming America’s Taxes Equitably”—weighed in on the Republican Tax Cuts Act over the weekend in an op-ed for The Hill.
Pinkerton’s thesis? In polarized times, it’s easy to let partisan instincts cloud what should be a bipartisan consensus. “It should not be forgotten that the idea of using lower tax rates to stimulate growth is not just a Republican idea—it’s an American idea,” he writes.
“The soundest way to raise the revenues in the long run is to cut the rates now.” Those words didn’t come from President Donald J. Trump—or even President Ronald Reagan.
They are from Democratic President John F. Kennedy.

Looking back on year one of #MAGA
As President Trump and his Administration dive into a long list of priorities for 2018, it’s worth looking back on how far America has come in just one year.
• $5.5 trillion in tax cuts, 60 percent of which go to families
• The lowest unemployment rate in nearly 17 years
• 22 regulations eliminated for each new one enacted
• A record-setting 12 conservative federal circuit judges confirmed
And that list barely scratches the surface. See the full year one breakdown here. https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/president-donald-j-trump-year-one-making-america-great/

Trump: Palestinians unwilling to talk peace, so “why should we make any of these massive future payments to them?”
January 3, 2018 9:13 AM By Robert Spencer
For years the U.S. has been showering billions upon various entities, hoping to buy their loyalty or at least compliance. We’ve been played for easy marks by the sharpies of the world. President Trump is calling a halt. He is the first President even to threaten to call a halt. This is the first administration to show that intimidation and bullying are no longer currency in the White House.

Don’t give them a plugged nickel is my opinion. And that isn’t just knee jerk rhetoric.

Wouldn’t it be cool if POTUS could figure out a way to make them RETURN a lot of the money we’ve already given them?

It’s stashed in Swiss bank accounts. The leaders have set themselves and families up to live like kings/queens should anything happen to them.
Suha Arafat and her daughter are living high off the hog in France on our and other nations’ money. Hubby Yassir left her the combinations. Rumor has it she settled with the Palestinian Authority to give them a certain amount AFTER she took the lion’s share.

Maybe if the PA stopped spending aid monies on armaments, tunnels, explosives and payments to support martyrs’ families they’d have enough to clean their crap territory up and stop living on the largesse of strangers.

I never watch awards shows, but I’m making an exception in this case. Although I suspect that the overall ‘winner’ is already well known to us so it probably won’t be a surprise.

Recipe of the day!
Velveeta Fudge
2 lbs powdered sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 lb Velveeta
1/2 lb butter
1/2 Tbs bourbon
1/2 Tbs vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans
Sift sugar cocoa & chili powder in a large bowl.
Melt cheese & butter in a double boiler (no microwave). The cheese & butter will never look completely mixed together, instead having a swirled appearance. Add bourbon & vanilla. Pour cheese mixture into the dry ingredients, add pecans & stir. Spread into a 13×9″ glass dish until even. Do not chill. Allow to cool completely, uncovered on the counter top. When cooled to room temp, cut into squares.

Oh, no. I saw it in the Times Picayune this evening when I got home. I just thought I’d share. A local woman said her father always made it for holidays & when she came home from college. Currently, I have no Velveeta or pecans: used them up in December!

From “West Wing Reads” today…
Manufacturing in the U.S. just accelerated to its best year since 2004
Katia Dmitrieva in Bloomberg Markets
Bloomberg Markets reports that “U.S. manufacturing expanded in December at the fastest pace in three months, as gains in orders and production capped the strongest year for factories since 2004,” according to data from the Institute for Supply Management.
The acceleration is fueled by “more domestic business investment, improving global economies and steady spending by American households,” Katia Dmitrieva writes. Timothy Fiore, ISM’s manufacturing survey committee chairman, explained that the poll was taken before tax reform passed in December— and its passage will provide companies with even greater incentives to invest.

Stephen Moore writes in Newsmax that after one year in office, President Donald J. Trump “keeps defying his critics.” While some on the left bemoaned the President’s potential impact on the economy, Moore says that “since the day Donald Trump was elected . . . the Dow Jones industrial average has risen by some 35 percent, making the last 14 months one of the greatest bull market runs in history.”

In Real Clear Politics, David Ignatius argues that President Trump is right to tell Iran that the world is watching. “Think of the Iranian uprising as a bottom-up revolt by people who feel they’ve been ignored by a corrupt elite,” writes Ignatius. The issues in Iran are different than in America, he says, “but you sense a resonance.”

Fox News reports that Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Thomas Homan says California “better hold on tight” after Gov. Jerry Brown allowed a sanctuary state law to take effect recently. “If politicians don’t protect their communities then ICE will,” Homan said.

In The Hill, Jeff Green writes that President Trump’s executive order to improve access to America’s metals and minerals—which the President signed last month—will bolster our national security. The move “will assure the United States has access to these materials for use in every major defense system,” Green writes.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

Well, well, well, this nice man and his very pregnant wife who were captured while “backpacking” in Iran, and were finally released and accepted back into Canada, after refusing help from America because he was afraid he would be jailed, is now accused of rape. Surprise, Surprise!!
“On Tuesday news broke that Boyle had been arrested on December 30th and was still in custody as he faced 15 charges including: eight counts of assault, two counts of sexual assault, two counts of unlawful confinement, uttering a death threat, and administering a noxious substance. Police also laid a charge against Boyle for misleading police – media reports indicate he reported someone as missing and suicidal in order to divert police away from himself shortly before his arrest. According to court records, the alleged incidents occurred between October 14, 2017 – the day after the family arrived back in Canada – and December 30, 2017.”

Friends of mine were robbed after a serious car accident. One was dead, one was seriously injured, and another was also injured. Apparently someone robbed them and left them there injured and dying.

What that brings to mind is a story I heard in the 70’s that happened near me. A woman had an accident, went of a bridge in her car and ended up upside down, hanging in her seat belt. An man came down, she thought was going to help and instead he took off his pants and tried to stick his, well you know, in her mouth. Luckily, some other people came to help and he ran off. Crazy. Police caught him.

I can not express how disappointed and confused I am that pres Trump is allowing the mentally disturbed muslims from the island off Australia to come here! So what if he said no. What’s Australia going to do to us???.
I am also upset at his thinking daca is an ok trade off. Demographics is destiny.

Stella, you got a lot of snow over your side of the state? We have a lot of snow. And it’s still coming down. I’d say we have almost 2 feet, now. I haven’t seen snow like this in years.
The Toro is in the shop. We’re #10 in line. I hope they can fix it before we need a bigger one.
Nevertheless, I’ll be shoveling tomorrow. I’m freakin’ John Henry against a Toro.
Gimme a lightweight plastic, no-metal-strip shovel, and I’ll clear an alley faster than a guy with a snowblower. A small snowblower, anyway. And I’ll have more back pain than that guy, too.
