Hurricane Irma Update, 8:00 pm

As of 8:00 pm, Irma is moving up the Florida gulf coast, category 2. As it moves north, storm surges are moving in shore; fortunately, the worst-case scenario does not appear to be the case. Wind and water damage caused by flooding and storm surge combined has already been observed, and is continuing.

The storm is far from over, as the storm passes Ft. Meyers and moves into Charlotte Harbor, then on towards Tampa, when it will most likely be a category 1 storm.

A local station here in Lakeland just said that the storm has lessened and that it will be here a couple of hours earlier than was expected, maybe by midnight.

There are people going door to door in Lakeland saying they are from the power company Aus. They are robbing people, be aware.

Wow, the wind has really picked up. And, I can hear the rain hitting the walls. That is unusual. I’m still snug here in my little hidey hole. πŸ™‚

Well, Irma’s left south Florida and, if we’re lucky, so have the various weather TV vultures. It gets painful watching them try and pull something to say out of thin air after hours of babbling.
The guy who was talking about street flooding as he was walking in the dished drainage area in a parking garage, dry pavement clearly visible on either side as he wades ankle deep in the dip in the center of the driveway.
The reporter talking about dodging dangerous debris in the streets of Miami as the video shows him being driven between leaves, sticks and occasional palm frond.
Now thru the magic of social media and cable TV every snowflake can fell the vicarious thrill of being part of a disaster while not bring inconvenienced and feeling superior by alleviating suffering thru texting a $10 donstion while, again, not being inconvenienced. Ain’t technology wunnerful?
