http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2017/09/a_clash_of_cultures_the_burning_man_vs_the_bourgeois.html
If you’re like me and need a primer on exactly what a “bourgeois culture” is, according to Wax and Alexander, the “script” of America’s bourgeois culture declares the following:
Get married before you have children and strive to stay married for their sake. Get the education you need for gainful employment, work hard, and avoid idleness. Go the extra mile for your employer or client. Be a patriot, ready to serve the country. Be neighborly, civic-minded, and charitable. Avoid coarse language in public. Be respectful of authority. Eschew substance abuse and crime.
Shocking behavior, right? And imagine that: I’ve been steeped in the “bourgeois culture” most of my life and never knew it! In addition to pointing out what is bourgeois culture, the good professors also note that the collapse of America’s bourgeois culture has led to many undesirable outcomes, including the following:
Too few Americans are qualified for the jobs available. Male working-age labor force participation is at Depression-era lows. Opioid abuse is widespread. Homicidal violence plagues inner cities. Almost half of all children are born out of wedlock, and even more are raised by single mothers. Many college students lack basic skills, and high school students rank below those from two dozen other countries.
The whole article will go down in history as prescient genius.

Yeah, pucker factor went into the mid-3 range this AM with the predictions showing it charging into the Caribbean, and supposedly taking a sharp and almost 90-degree turn into Southern Florida. We, at least the ones who were here, remember how Katrina was supposed to turn almost straight north after it exited Florida’s west coast and instead went WNW.
Getting propane topped off, getting prescriptions filled, all of those little details that make coastal life seasonally exciting.

A long term forecast and
definitely not cast in stone;
but here is another point
of view of Irma. 😉
Could it be that she desires
mud bugs more than lobster?

Hard to say but were another 3 to hit NOLA things would definately be interesting as many, many of those folks who didn’t have insurance for Katrina and got new houses still don’t have insurance. You see an area as large as the Houston area that’s received massive damage and then see NOLA that got nailed twelve years ago and didn’t learn its lesson….
We have a large group of newbies who’ve never gone thru a major storm and there’s no telling how they’ll react but I know the cities up here are less than willing to let squatters in to park and wait out the storm, they learned their lessons with the Katrina evacuation mess. We are on a back-route from the Northshore that some could use so we’re all set to block access to our properties and respond accordingly to uninvited types.

Houston on her

I was trying not to think of that but if you coldly factor it out it’s one of the least problematic areas for it to hit at this point.

Would seem Mother Nature did not take kindly to the Mayor stating Houston was preparing for wind and rain; not a hurricane. Hence the decision not to evacuate. Well, Irma is born and the rest of the story may very well make the history books. Texas may be strong; but life is harsh. Then, again, perhaps a certain mega church is the target. 😉

If not one red cent of my tax dollars ever goes to NOLA again I’ll be a happy camper. I don’t see why I should have to keep paying for them to mismanage, ignore threats, under prepare, and a dozen other ways keep screwing the city up.
Combine that with the feral exports from the last major hurricane to hit there, and I’d bet I’m not alone in lacking the will to jump on the poor victims in NOLA bandwagon. Have insurance, or go live somewhere else. Why should I subsidize your (not you personally) risky choices?

Well, because we throw GREAT PARTIES! We also are becoming a Northern prog city as demonstrated by out proactive removal of Confederate statues, prostrating ourselves in front of various groups of entitled peoples (irrespective of their legality) and opening our veins to bleed restitution (read as ‘free stuff’) in to the outstretched hands of those we’ve socioculturally damaged. And we throw great parties.

Great, the city powers can take some of the largesse from the parties and pay their own bills,

Sorry, Menagerie, ran outta reply space. Yeah, you’d think the City could pay its own bils, especially since in 2026 tourist spending brought in $7.4 billion, a record and 2015 was a record tear too, just a hair under that.
City seems to find a few million under the couch cushions when pressed but we still have streets, sewer lines, water lines and other infrastructure that a third eorld nstion would reject. The broken water pumps weren’t being fixed even though there was a huge contract to do so, one that mysteriously and still unexplainably doubled in price, and is a few years overdue in completion. The city finds a few million, holds the Water Board’s feet to the embarrassingly public fire and the pumps are being fixed. No word if that extra and unaccounted for $12-million will be accounted for.

Thank you Mary. Did I tell you that the couple who offered to adopt the twins, finally adopted a baby? ❤️. A beautiful little girl. They had put on their adoption application that they would accept a baby of any race, the mom (a very young teen) said she was having a caucasian baby, my friends of course didn’t care any which way, anyhow, the gender of the baby was not a surprise but she is a beautiful little Mulatto girl.
. Anyhow prayers for all of them are appreciated we are already past the 6 month mark so she is their daughter without the fear of being taken from their lives.

Good Morning, Nyet and thank you for once again providing a morning feast. Good morning, everyone! It was a busy/happy weekend for the family. Luckily there were no centaurs in the crowd, although the amount of food my skinny grandson can put away makes me wonder……
“A Centaur has a man-stomach and a horse-stomach. And of course both want breakfast. So first of all he has porridge and pavenders and kidneys and bacon and omlette and cold ham and toast and marmalade and coffee and beer. And after that he tends to the horse part of himself by grazing for an hour or so and finishing up with a hot mash, some oats, and a bag of sugar. That’s why it’s such a serious thing to ask a Centaur to stay for the weekend. A very serious thing indeed.” ~ C. S. Lewis

Ya know how I complain every year about the bicyclists, well it’s that time of year again for the big cross country bikers. They’ve been out spray painting their arrows this past week and spray painting new cautions, because they’re too stupid I guess to see a Y and need to be told in bright yellow that they need to not go straight and turn right and the warning it’s a curve. Folks that live at the Y said last year the idiots kept on flying and hit the grass triangle and flipped their bikes. lol
My DH stopped and told the man doing the spray painting they needed to tell the idiots that on our road they needed to quit riding 6 and 7 wide, this road was barely wide enough for 2 cars and some spots where it isn’t wide enough before some of them get killed. Well he told him it was next Saturday and he told him they better be out of this area by the time we leave for the races because that big truck pulling a 40 ft trailer doesn’t stop that well. 🙂

Yeah, in the last few years NOLA’s pushed hard to be come a NE prog-type city andvhas put special bike lanes in all over. Never mind the fact that traffic sucks in general, now we have driving lanes compromised by the special Spandex-clad bikers.
Every now and then one of them challenges the wrong person and ends up with parallel tire tread marks on the stretchy clothes and up goes the ‘ghost bike’ monument commemorating his ignorance of certain social laws if not the laws of physics.
I can’t see why anyone would want to ride a bike in NOLA, there are holes in the street that swallow real vehicles, more than a few have numerous scrape marks on the up-traffic side that indicate vehicles thst have bottomed out. We thought that the road department had lunch bets on the numbers of new scrapes daily, that’s why they didn’t fix them. There’s one on our old street where two concrete plates expanded into each other and sunk, blocking the whole right lane with a half-street-wide 8-inch deep hole on the diwn-traffic side and a vertical wall on the upside. It’s been there for years and makes trucks creep thru, bikes hsve to be carried over. Then again most of the folks riding bikes in our old area were scoping out garages for robberies, so……

We have very nice bike trails through the woods here. But some brainless Lefties fought to get bike lanes put on the streets, our streets are a spaghetti bowl to begin with, now we have bike lanes that start out of nowhere and end in the middle of traffic and are generally a waste of taxpayers dollars.
In 3 years I’ve seen less than 10 bikes in the bike lanes, probably less than 5, SMH.
Some folks do use the streets around my neighborhood for riding their bikes but generally I think they are headed to the bike trail. Then we have the few Darwin contenders who ride right down the of the lane and get angry when you honk so they move their dumb butts over.

NOLA’s always been a crappy city for streets, their maintenance is less of a mater of convenience than it is political patronage, and the crappy way the streets are built just adds to their problems.
The bike lanes seem to be more oriented to trying to make the city look like a rebirth from violent third world kleptarchy to a millennial nesting site. City’s even talking about tearing down hundreds of milliobs of dollars of I-10 infrastructure thst runs thru the city and return all interstate thru traffic to the already crowded ground so that the ‘community atmosphere’ of an area sotted with drug use, homeless and crime can be resorted. No mention of how the area will be gridlocked as that artery is still main route over the Mississippi to the west side of the city. Maybe removing a lane or so for bikes will help.

Each citycouncilperson gets a chink of the street mobey for his/her district and supposedly decides the priority of repairs. First is usually the street s/he lives on followed by the streets of major campaign donors, relatives..right on down the line. In the late 80s we had a councilwoman’s aunt living across the street so our entire block was ripped up and replaced. Since then the seat’s moved towards the river and the block’s gone to hell in a hand basket.

Indy has a bike lane that cuts across four lanes of traffic. I never, ever, understood that. It cuts on a diagonal. I don’t know how they don’t have multiple accidents there.
It’s things like that that irritated me when the state legislature thought that “raising the gas tax to pay for road repairs was fair because this way only people who use the roads pay for them.”
No word yet on when they plan to license bicycles and Amish buggies, or the fines they plan to levy on the people who think that walking on the road entitles them to take up half the lane. -_-

I think the only reason we don’t have people run over on a daily basis here is that the people who use the bike trails are too smart to use the bike lanes. As to the nuts in the middle of the lane, I’m always surprised that they don’t get hit by cars or trucks.

They get government money for putting in bike lanes. We have them here too. Almost never see bikes.

The hi-traffic, scenic areas have them in bulk while the more urban areas have just enough to cause traffic problems. There’s a certain segment of our society that doesn’t appreciate bikers in spray-on clothing retarding their forward motion and isn’t above demonstrating it – we’ve had a number hit and few shot, a dtive-by drive-by.

A certain part of the city was “granted”🙄 several million dollars to turn a small strip of a two lane road into a 4 lane road, all the residences fought it, the local government won, the reasoning from the politicians was that it was a grant given solely for that specific portion of road, if the city did not use it for the specific area it had to be returned so the politicians took the money and lit it on fire.
Did I mention our current mayor is a practicing attorney?

Well he told him it was next Saturday and he told him they better be out of this area by the time we leave for the races because that big truck pulling a 40 ft trailer doesn’t stop that well.
These folks feel entitled, it’s like the classic tale of the ship telling the lighthouse that it better move. Only the cyclists are row boats going up against a battleship and think that the battleship owes them the lane.
Good luck. Stay safe. Maybe you can get one of those cow catchers that trains have for the front of your truck 😜.

They won’t move and think we want to follow them going 2 mph. I have almost hit them several times over the years because this road has curves and hills and you don’t see them until you’re right on them. They come in cycles all day, which ever ones are faster.
I was talking to a guy that lives on the road and I guess last year a group of them held an ambulance up because they wouldn’t move. It was his elderly neighbors and he said he spent the next several hours sitting in his driveway telling all of them how annoying we find all of them because he was so ticked.
Although I blame the riders, I really blame the idiots who plan the ride, quit sending them down roads like ours that is not safe for them and then in turn make it unsafe for those of us who live out here, not to mention how they inconvenience all of us.
My DH is not a patient person and he gets a little ticked and starts blowing his horn at them and yelling for them to get the hell out of the way. He’s also called them idiots more than a few times and says he learned by the age of 5 that a vehicle is bigger than a bicycle and to get the hell out of the way.
I normally don’t yell, but I make a point to drive the diesel truck and have been known to blow diesel smoke on those who make me follow them for 5 miles.

They drive me crazy too. First, I’m tired of being told to look out for them and share the road when they insist on blocking a whole lane by riding side by side. And I’m talking out here in the danged country, not for a race, just buddies who think they have to socialize during a bike ride.
Second, I got caught in another one downtown last week. Somehow I missed hearing about this one and it was the last straw. We always leave way early to get anywhere, especially for special events. I ran a few minutes late leaving for the wedding last weekend. We hit three traffic jams on a Saturday afternoon, which never happens, and then the stupid bikes were blocking the way to the church. We walked in three minutes late to our own son’s wedding. Which thankfully they had held up for us.

That’s what drives me crazy, they come out here and invade our territory then they ride side by side taking up the entire road, not just half the road.
I’m so old I remember when as children you were taught to get out of the road when cars were coming. These idiot laws for them drive me insane. Every highway around here has a minimum speed and they can’t reach it, yet they insist on riding on the highway. If one of them ever gets hit they automatically put the blame on the driver.
I’ve complained to the people who put on these stupid bike rides, complained to the highway patrol, county sheriff and county commissioner and am always told it is a public road. They don’t seem to care that they cause the public road to be unsafe. Last year a guy pulling his boat ended up damaging his vehicle and boat because he was driving the speed limit and came around a curve that is downhill and there the idiots were. He had to lock on his brakes which caused him to slide and his boat to come around and hit his vehicle.
It’s not like they’re riding on a flat road where you can see them for miles and then since the idiots take up the entire road you either hit them from the front or the back.

I’m right there with you. I can’t stand it. My neighborhood is frequently a part of bike races and it makes it almost impossible to come and go. I also don’t like that many of our police officers are utilized for it. It may be a voluntary thing, I don’t know, and maybe the race organizers pay for them, but I still don’t think it’s right.

These we got behind the other day aren’t apart of this cross country thing and I assume are regulars, but there were three of them riding on a major highway with the speed limit 65 mph. We were able to pass them, at least they stayed in one lane, but I couldn’t help but think they were total idiots.
You couldn’t pay me to ride a bike down this highway.
There is an elderly man who rides his bike around here all the time, he lives out here and rides to keep himself in shape he says. He has a brain in his head though and when he hears a car, he gets off the road. He’s part of the generation that understands a vehicle is bigger and faster than a bicycle. lol

My DD is getting close to getting her drivers license and those people are the bane of her existence! It never fails when we go out for practice, we have to drive 5 to 10 MPH until we can take a side street or something. Really annoying. And we have beautiful bike paths everywhere that are safe. ☹️ Oh well…

God Bless those unsung heroes who every day, even with pain, fatigue, and sadness, get up and provide for themselves, those they love, and the other 47%. There are many political thoughts about this that I shall leave unsaid for today, so I may honor the labors of these heroes with joy. 🙂

Okay, he can’t dance, or play an instrument.
He can sing, and almost nobody’s heard him do that. I’m one of the lucky ones.

Awesome pics, Lucille. I can’t imagine not seeing Lake Michigan once a day at least.
I remember when my uncle came to visit us, when I was a kid, from Boston. In his mind, what we had here was just a lake. When he saw it’s fury for the first time, he almost fell down in awe. It’s not a lake. It’s an inland, saltless, sharkless sea that can kill you.

I pretty much assume most such sites are going to give the leftie version of economics and politics. Even when looking up gifs to post, I run across political commentary that inevitably makes me nauseous. Unless they are photoshopped, at least most photos don’t lie, but the photographers may be lying liars. Just like with some of my friends, I just don’t get into politics with them.

I still remember seeing the fish at the bottom of the Big Spring looking rather like minnows from the lake near my parents’ cottage (Otsego Lake) & then being amazed as they kept rising up near the surface (was that like 50 feet deep?) & they were these Huge Beasts & how could you see the sand & everything so clearly? I once visited Waloon Lake in Northern Michigan & was also amazed at its clarity…Oh and swimming in Lake Michigan in Sturgeon Bay (the southwest portion of Wilderness State Park at the tip of Michigan’s mitten) swimming out pretty far from shore & seeing VW size boulders maybe 20-30 feet down with the bottom still very clear from the surface. Some of Michigan’s waterways are so brilliantly beautiful!!!

I won’t speak about where this music is spiritually, but technically and musically, they produced some of the best albums I’ve ever heard. Michael McDonald was part of the band on a few albums. You can hear his distinctive voice singing backup on quite a few hits. They were jazz/rock/soul perfectionists.
Walter Becker will be sorely missed by the industry.

We have days of tapes starting within an hour of the planes hitting, complete with the now buried pictures of prople jumping from the Towers rather than being burned to death. Lotta that stuff’s being suppressed, buried as it were, so that the poor, misunderstood and victimized Moslems wom’t be further stigmatized or insulted.
We plan on moving it, in bulk, to CDs so that our younger grand and great grandchildren can see what the unvarnished truth is rather than the pared back version we started to get within a few short years after the event. When you CAIR enough to tell the very truth.

Amen…I have many hours of uncensored tapes with uncut (I think) interviews of people on the streets of NYC describing the jumpers…None of this should be hidden nor forgotten.
In recent conversations with some associates I learned that they were in Dearborn(istan), MI on 9/11 & either personally witnessed or spoke with others who personally witnessed the (presumed) Muslims/Arabs dancing/cheering in the streets on 9/11…I’d heard about this in NJ & “Palestine” (Jordan, Lebanon, &/or Israel) where they were dancing in the streets.
Every year as 9/11 approaches we usually check out multiple books on the attacks, watch movies/documentaries on the events, & look for key items online to revisit…
Did you see the memorial (15th Anniversary?) where Obama quoted scripture–& hearing him with the Word of God in his mouth made my skin crawl–& I’ve never had that reaction to the spoken scriptures no matter the “unworthiness” of the reciter. It was very disturbing.

Obama: “Just give us all of your trust and guns and we’ll make sure the conversion of America from a European Christian to a Moslem-lite enclave minocracy will be quick and sort of painless”.
I always wondered why Obama counted Latinos in as part of his anti-European invasion, those Spanish speaking folks are the product of white Europeans living there, and are overwhelmingly Christian. Maybe he felt that he could control them once they got here even though their leaders haven’t shown a lot of kumbaya in cross-racial dealings when they didn’t need to.
I’d like to see what Obama’s reactions were to the 911 attack, not the scripted ones but his real ones.

“I’d like to see what Obama’s reactions were to the 911 attack, not the scripted ones but his real ones.” It would be instructive. He usually appeared to be without genuine feelings or compassion & perhaps has a Narcisistic Personality Disorder (per other’s writings & insights). He was for sure some type of Manchurian Candidate, imminently unqualified for every position he held, maybe even beginning w/ his early work at Baskin Robbins in HI. Will every aspect of the evil he wrought in this land ever be washed away?

I believe he refused to show emotions as he wasn’t skilled enough to fake them. There were numerous times he spoke under conditions that he could have easily faked emotion to grab more praise from his fawning followers but didn’t, better to look in control and above it all than to blow faking it.

I was listening to talk radio and they played a clip of the Mark Levin show. Levin was talking about how “China is North Korea and North Korea is China.”
I feel like he didn’t arrive at this conclusion independently and that he’s ripping off sundance. <.< I wonder how much of the stuff Levin says he takes from sundance, without citing his sources.
I don't listen to Levin anymore since his anti-Trump hysteria and the way he treated sundance.

The relationship between China and NK has been an open secret for years, I’ve posted about it here and next door and I’m limited to open source references.
The fact that it did and does exist is because it was advantageous for us to let it be. NK was an obscure threat we though we could control directly and indirectly while China was not only a major trading partnet supporting our sybaritic consumerism but bought US debt by the trillion so we could keep on having guns and butter.
Clinton fed the NK, the Bush family’s always had a greasy relationship with China and the POtuS….well he was the POtuS. Now the seeds we’ve sewn have come back to weed-out our yard and we’re not sure what to do short of ripping up the entire lawn.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
And, Lord, we pray for help for the people of Texas and Louisiana who are caught in the flooding.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen

Fast food workers protesting as part of a nationally organized campaign to get the minimum wage raised to $15 an hour. Guess their lack of reading skills has made them unaware of the major chains engineering fully automated kiosks that will replace many of those who perform manual labor in the drive-thru obesity industry. They could go back to school and get some more education that should lead to a better paying job or just look for another dead end job to whine about.

(A) you hire a service like so many resturants and casinos have on the coast. They guarantee health department standards and you pay as you play, no staff standing around idle. You will have a few staff left, just not as many as you had pre-automation. You can’t get rid of everyone but you can trim the staff heavily.
When one major chain first started out they had no seating, it was a drive-thru only, limiting the overhead of maintaining the patron area and extra acreage for parking. Sales pitch was you drove thru and got a freshly cooked burger, in and out, in minutes. They had burgers constantly cooking, they had a good idea from sales history of how many to have on the griddle at any time. A burger was cooked and there wasn’t anyone to buy it? No problem, it was flipped into the waste bucket and a fresh one went on, food’s cheap in the US in bulk and with a very limited overhead it wasn’t much of a loss.
Over thevyears mission creep took over and they added seating, salad bars, all the extraneous froo-froo the other chains had and costs shot ip. Instead of occupying their niche they tried to compete but couldn’t fight the Big Two.
A few years later another chain took up that business plan, the drive-thru only, and were so successful that the parish had to send a deputy to direct traffic at their location as lines were out well into the street during their business hours.
Prople cost money and are a bit unreliable but equipment is a complete tax writeoff, works until it breaks, its repairs are a deduction and you can be sure it will be there from open to close. It’s where we’re headed, replacement of humans has been going on for decades and will continue but no one’s been seriously dealing with the fallout.

I can remember back in the early 60s when our teachers were painting glowing pictures of our lives as automation took over. We’d only work so many hours a week, have more time for leisure activities, life would be Jetsonish. One of my first indications my teachers weren’t omniscient.
People who recognize and react to changes, like your neighbor, can occupy niche opportunities and be successful. There’s a guy out here who’s becone THE well expert, works all hours and doesn’t charge extra for coming on weekends or holidays. Any wobder he’s killing the competition?
