He’s been there, done that.
Many of the folks shown earlier as well – the self-initiated enthusiasm, joy, and sheer satisfaction at singing their hearts out.
About seven years ago when the National Guard contingent from our local, rural Minnesota area was coming back from Iraq – they had a police escort, sirens and lights running, from about ten miles south of town on I-94 – then after they got off the freeway and headed east for a 2 mile trip through downtown, on their way to the high school, the local businesses had open their doors, set up big speakers outside, people had their cars parked along the way – and this is what was playing – full blast, over and over again.
As the buses came by us with their darkened and closed windows (so the families of the soldiers would actually SEE THEM FIRST, over at the high school) we COULD see their silhouettes as they were all on their feet inside the bus, leaning over to look out the windows – and most of on the street had large American flags and were singing and crying and flag-waving to welcome them.
I had my grandson, about thirteen at the time, alongside. After they passed us, we hoofed it very quickly back to the car and headed for the high school, and got some of the last seats up on the high bleachers, so were also present when they made their entry there.
Will never forget the ROOOAAAAAARRRRRR of welcome that went on for minute after minute….when they marched in.
My grandson and two his brothers are in the Army today – one has served in Iraq and Kuwait, and just returned from S Korea, the second having served in Jordan and S Korea, the third was Airborne, and is just now switching MOS to Patriot Missile team because of damage to his spine (between arthritis and jumping out of perfectly good airplanes).
That old vet is all of us.

This was my feeling also. this is us, we are America. The old vet is all of us.
My Mother in law, myself and my three girls were all at a Fourth of July celebration, a young girl maybe 14 years old was singing “I’m proud to be an American”, everyone just stood still where they were and listened and then began singing along, it is one of my most treasured memories.

In 1991 the city of New Orleans held its first and LAST parade for returning veterans. It was primarily to honor those returning from Desert Storm but they included veterans from all wars (Landrieu wasn’t mayor so Civil War soldiers weren’t excluded) and it was a PR shot by the city at showing they didn’t snub returning soldiers as they did for Vietnam vets.
Parade ended in the Dome with a number of arteests performing but Greenwood brought the house down with soldiers, civilians and families all screaming twice as loud as they should be able to, at times drowning out the music.
Toby Keith is the latter day Bob Hope, keeping that glowing spark of patriotism alive during eight years of a Moslem-lite, traitor, America-hating, lying POtuS, letting military know that someone appreciated them while a politician who reviled them sent them off to be killed and the used their corpses for photo-ops.

I am 62 years old. I have seen many 4th of July Celebrations. I have been in several parades. I am a Air Force Veteran. I have never been so emotional as I am this Independence Day. I was proud of Reagan. but I have never felt more encouraged in the future of my country as I am this year. We have one last chance to get this right and I will not allow the left wing MSM, Antifa, or low life Rinos to take that away from us.

Best July 4th I had was in 1976 when my lady son was born, next best was at my airbase in Birtnam where the EOD folks (RIP Sal Coniglio) blew up well over a ton of stale ordnance. Thst was IMPRESSIVE, we had bombs, demolition stuff, rockets, avgas that had to go…..ahhhhhhhhhh

Czarina just pointed out that my unbridled enthusiasm for Apple autocomplete has once again tripped me up. S/B ‘last’, not ‘lady’ son…and I have no idea how Apple got Birtnam, maybe it’s near Ernienam.
