Caitlin Johnstone lays out a complicated situation nicely, and I’ve decided she’s absolutely right. I’m not going to delve into any of the technical aspects of the case for Rich being assassinated – it’s there for anyone who wants to see the more technical aspects. When you add that it’s likely he was a Bernie devotee who didn’t like the way his candidate was treated, an argument that he turned to Wikileaks for some kind of payback, or leveling the playing field, or hopes that Bernie would become a more primary player it all makes sense. Podesta’s email saying he’d be good with making an example of the leaker and Podesta’s tight relationship with the Clintons puts a bow on it.

I think the information is important here, and I’ll wrap this up quoting her last paragraph, which says it all very well.

“My theory, while I have your attention, is that Seth Rich was not just assassinated because he was the DNC leaker, but also because he knew he was the DNC leaker. America’s unelected power establishment wants to depose Assad to secure its crucial position in the fossil fuel battles and squeeze the Kremlin hard so it stops taking bold actions like allying with the Syrian government, annexing the strategically important Crimean peninsula, and collaborating with China to undermine the hegemony of the US dollar in that region. If Rich had been able to step forward and let everyone know that he was WikiLeaks’ source and not Russia, the American people would never consent to these potentially world-ending escalations with a nuclear superpower, and America’s deep state would lose geopolitical power and influence. Can’t have that. Dead men tell no tales.
So. There’s that. Let’s talk about this.”

      Article is a fascinating read.

No reason to make someone ‘disappear’, no reason to go to extremes either, jes whack ’em and let the media grist mill grind out dozens of interesting and entertaining narratives. At some point a popular TV program redesigns the story a bit, makes it part of the script and thst completes the transition to entertainment.

    The cat’s yelling at me.

I have to get up and make brunch food for people who give us their money for that service, so we can lose money, because it’s a dinner place and weekly sunday brunch is an idea that causes that boss to lose profit and gain losses, and causes the workers who just closed on Saturday night to lose sleep and gain insanity and disdain for life.

I can only laugh, and have great faith. In the few months I’ve been in this kitchen, I don’t know who is Christian, and I DO know who is decidedly and openly atheist and hedonist. I don’t speak of these things unbidden at work, ever. Good for them. Lotsa luck!

I do know that I am leaven in the loaf. I do me some First John Four type work.

We had a real Vietnamese resturant we’d eat at just over a few blocks, ate there from about 1982 until the place was sold by the owners to Walmart a few years ago.
When we first started eating there the clientele was about 95% Vietnamese, many of whom did not speak English. The only menu was in Vietnanese and was written on slates around the wall at ceiling level. Big service time was Sunday, after mass, when families would crowd in for the big meal. By the time they closed the location the clientele was now better than 90% non-Vietnamese, the older ones having died or moved on. I fondly remember the early, real Vietnamese menu, especially the “extra fat/extra gristle” offering on the menu for the pho.
If you’re ever in NOLA their new place, much more mainstream than the old place but with the same great food…minus the extra fat/extra gristle option. It’s name’s Pho Tau Bay, it’s on Tulane just across from the old Charity hospital, just down from the new LSU/VA hospital complex where you’d be transported to treat that pesky mugging gunshot. Once they release you you can trot down a block fir a great lunch. If you’re admitted I do believe they can arrange delivery.

*Music Bonus: “Louie Louie” by the Kingsmen. The rumors of the vulgar lyrics were supposedly found in the FBI report of a 31 month investigation into whether the drummer laid an F-bomb at the :54 mark when he dropped his drumstick. The song is about a sailor who is leaving his lady love for 3 months, not knowing if he will return. The version below is one of the era; there is another with the lyrics I decided not to post because of the psychedelic nature which could trigger seizures in the readership – but you can find it on youtube easily. Wikipedia has an extensive reporting on the song, the artists, the rich history and the music itself:

There’s the issue of the true reason the Russian K-129 went down where it did off of Hawaii; there’s the issue of a senior crewmember on one of the four nuke-armed subs that confronted the US fleet during the Cuban Missile Crisis stopping the boss from firing a nuke-tipped torpedo at the US fleet; there’s the story of a Russian boomer that was in its firing box off the US east coast that was stopped from going rogue.
There’s the fact that while the US intel folks were busy looking at the Russian long-range nukes being shipped into Cuba they totally missed the tactical nukes the Russian onshore forces had. The field commanders had authority to fire those nukes at any attacking US forces at their discretion. There are ALLEGEDLY more instances but they’re supposed to be classified if they exist. With the thousands upon thousands of strategic and tactical nukes the US and Russia alone had it’s amazing that none of the alleged ‘oopsies’ became a huge flaming ball of problems.

Russian subscwere a horror, I never realized how bad until I was attached to Navy intel, they weren’t that much vetter accommodations-wise, than the German WWII ones. A large crew of men trapped in a hot, smelly, cramped, metal tube underwater for weeks at a time and eating bad food…no wonder there weren’t more incidents. US subs were Trump Towers in comparison.
US had its share too from runaway bombers to a few nukes falling out of aircraft. The infamous Spanish oopsie that contaminated acres of ground to the accidental dropping of two hydrogen bombs over Goldsboro, NC where one actually came within one internal safety device failing of detonating and ruining property values. The entire Cold War period was an amazing Buster Keaton movie with a happy ending.

For the longest tine the loaders on Russian tanks had to be left-handed and very short, limiting the crewing possibilities. The Russians made up for what they lacked in technology and sophistication with huge numbers of ‘close enough for government work’ equipment with even larger numbers of expendable operators. That latge number of warm bodies also contributed to their military’s errors as at the command level you can’t make up for quality with quantity.

Re 2004: the world has no idea how many times some Russian savior stopped his superior from acting on a whim or bad info and launching a nuke. US gave Russia the program for launch authentication and hierarchical launch control to at least try and make their ICBM systems secure…ish. Used to be political officers on subs to help make sure some crewmembers didn’t go squirrelly and fire a nuke…as almost happened during the Cuban Missile Crisis, just to mention one instance.
Re 1968: Scorpion incident will be totally declassified one of these days, a favorite conspiracy theory in some circles.

    A Senior’s Perspective of Facebook

For those of my generation who do not, and cannot, comprehend why Facebook exists:

I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook while applying the same principles. Therefore, every day I walk down the street and tell passersby what I have eaten, how I feel at the moment, what I have done the night before, what I will do later and with whom.

I give them pictures of my family, my dog, of me gardening, taking things apart in the garage, watering the lawn, standing in front of landmarks, driving around town, having lunch, and doing what anybody and everybody does every day. I also listen to their conversations, give them the ‘thumbs up’ and tell them I like them. And it works just like Facebook.

I already have four people following me: two police officers, a private investigator and a psychiatrist.

One new kid at work today asked the slightly-off new kid at work today, “Can I bum a cigarette?” The guy said, “I only have one, but I’ll split it with you!”, and then proceeded to cut it half with a kitchen knife. I asked, “So, which half did you get, the one with the filter or the one without?”

    He said, “You don’t understand.”

He cut his last cigarette in half, lengthwise. Perfectly. While grinning like someone who might someday pull an Adam Lanza*, which he does a lot.

(*A real one, I mean, that actually happens in real life.)

Dude has some issues, to understate things considerably. Not sure if he should be playing with chef knives, or be allowed to leave one particular floor of most hospitals. Not kidding.

Earlier, when temporary Chef was out on an errand, I noticed he was on the line, cooking something at the 6-burner. He turned and grinned when I asked what he was doing (it’s his third day on the job), and said “Guess.” I said, “No. What are you doing.” “Making chicken Alfredo. I don’t care if I’m not allowed, take it out of my paycheck, I’m making it. If I can remember how.”

One day, I’lll work with sane people. Or not.

I laughed for 10 minutes straight, until my sides hurt, when I heard about the cigarette. I said to the kid who wanted one, as I gave him a smoke, “At least he didn’t offer to split a beer with you. That could have been quite a mess.”

But, no worries, Old Guys, Apple will allow you to repair your old cars. Until Apple has Apple whatsits in all cars by law, that is.

And now you know why Apple are for wimps. The Apple ID10Ts like Limbaugh are all too happy to fall in line & put on their VR glasses & rot their minds.

On the bright side, perhaps POTUS might look into pulling a Teddy Roosevelt and start breaking up a few monopolies. Have acquaintance w/a few millenials who wld luv to help.

WP must have a vid of that Apple hammer commercial somewhere, or another appropriate vid. Cld use that hammer ’bout now.

And now we read this garbage –
U.S. Army machine communicated with infrastructure used to deploy WannaCry
    https://www.cyberscoop.com/wannacry-ransomware-u-s-army-research-lab-fort-huachuca/

The original, uncorrected article implied the huachuca ip was used to send out the malware.

Dummies. It never occurred to them that this was a good guy looking to hack the ransomware to find a fix. Some of us did this out of boredom, a common malady there (well, i did, anyway).
    if i had a hammer…

This is why I don’t use Wikipedia any more, in a nutshell. One of many such nutshells.

IG will replace Wiki. Sooner, rather than later. It is a fork of a completely open-source platform, not inhabited and edited by insane lunatics, and instead edited by people who love accuracy and truth without the taint of SJW politics on every page.

There are even browser plug-ins that redirect every Wiki link to the IG link.

Then there is Forkbot, the kicker, and the icing on the cake.

Every single one of you can edit pages on IG.

All of you can make it great again. What are your interests? What are your areas of expertise? Edit the pages on the things at which you are experts.

If you can’t read the pic, look up “Common basilisk” on both sites. Look up any controversial conservative figure on both sites (any conservative figure, essentially). Look up political words on both sites. (conservative, progressive, Communist, etc…) Look up U.S. Military or LEO-related names and words on both sites. (Trayvon, Bin Laden, etc…)

I looked up ‘basilisk’ online and hot: …”a legendary reptile reputed to be king of serpents…” along with a picture of John McCain. Did I do that wrong?

Whoa! NOLA Metropolitan Crime Commission released a report today showing crime is up in NOLA, especially drug crimes. The statues/monuments are down , what’s wrong Mr Mayor?
BTW, excuse is that NOPD’s some 500 officers behind where they should be, a situation that’s been with the city well before Landrieu took office but which he promised to rectify. We not only have low morale in the PD, as witnessed by officers continually leaving and retiring, but the pols looking over the cops’ shoulders makes many officers feel that the city government cares more about certain criminals’ rights than the cops’ rights or safety.
