I just found out which puppy is mine. Now to pick a name. I have a few ideas, but would be interested to know what you think. He will be 7 weeks old tomorrow, and these pics were taken today. The breeder says he is spunky, but lovable.

So adorable! Looks like some type of spaniel…possibly a Brittany?

I’m going to meet him in person on Sunday afternoon.

Wait until you spend time with him before you name him. His personality will let you know what he thinks his name is. Just to let you know, Stop That and NO, No, No are not proper names for a pet. HAHAHAHA

Dammit, quit sniffing the Pastor there!

He’s so beautiful! Lucky you!
Maybe Rafael – God has healed – as we pray God heals our country. Or to be silly, you hope a hyper Brittany puppy will actually heel! (haha, wink, wink)
Or something patriotic like Liberty!
Whatever you choose, Congratulations. 🙂

My last Brittany never did learn to heel properly. It’s not in their nature.

After Stella the puppy years, I think I’m as prepared as I can be. This time I will be home all day when he is little, so it should be easier (we’ll see). Some of the things that Stella did:
Chewed a kitchen cabinet door.
Chewed the plaster on two walls.
Turned on the gas stove (twice). Had to remove the burner controls for weeks.

That was my mistake with Cody. I got him after I left my job and thought I would be home with him during his formative weeks. I got called back to work when he was 10 weeks old. He was home alone for 6 weeks. I lost the valuable learning days. I will regret it the rest of my life.

I was working when I got Stella – she was 7 weeks old. I had a dog walker for a while, who came to my house at noon to feed and walk her. At first she was crated in my kitchen, but then I gated and confined her to the kitchen. [while I was gone] Explains the damage.

I do not think most people realize how much needs to be done in the first few months after you bring your new “baby” home. You only get a very short time to train them. I missed the window. You will do great! The fist few months of bonding makes all the difference. They need to trust you and you need to trust them. That bond only happens in the first few months. The first picture says it all. “Hi, who are you?”

Our Stella locked Dh out of the truck, at the end of our driveway when he stopped to pick up the mail… He had to walk back to the house and phone a lock smith… 🙂

I’ve read that names with a hard consonant start and a soft vowel ending are good – like Stella. My dog before that was named Sassy.

Love the precious pics of your little pup, Stella! I just found this post. I know you’ve got so many names to pick from, but if it’s okay, I’ll add a couple more. Patriot, Copper (due his coloration) and Buffy. Buffy was the name of my grandmother’s last spaniel and he was an angel of a dog, so very sweet. His name was actually Alexander Buffington, Buffy for short. Anyway… I’m so excited you get to meet him on Sunday and can’t wait to hear how it goes! 🙂

I can already see that Spunky loves the warmth of the sunshine, and is a good guard dog too. He’s guarding the door.
Someone needs to put down a rug for him. That floor looks cold.
P. S. We had a puppy we named Johnny Walker Beemer. Beemer lived to be free as the wind. Sadly, it is also how he died.
GORGEOUS Pup. BOTH of them!

How about the name regulus? It means “prince” or “little king” and is also the name of a star, which would tie his name back to Stella.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulus
Sirius is another potential name, but I think that has too many Harry Potter connotations these days.

I can never hear or see the name Sirius without going back to my Freshman Biology class in High School. The teacher was interesting. One day we came into class and he had small mirrors, joints with lighters and a few other things on our tables. He also had some provocative pictures tapped up around the room.
He gave a talk and informed us that he was an agent from the Dog Star Sirius about midway through the class our vice principal stormed in and tore down all the pictures and then told us all to leave.
The next day we had a new teacher as the Dog Star agent had finally crossed a Chicago Public School line.

Do you know about breath bonding? When you first meet him, and frequently for a while thereafter, pick him up, hold his face up to your open mouth and gently exhale into his face. He breathes in your breath, your smell, your essence. Dog mushers swear by it.
