Made it to the end of another week kids. But we’ve gotta get through today. Who will the Turtle back today? John-boy, the schoolyard bully, or Rand, the sorta new kid on the block? Or will he keep his head tucked in his shell? What is Paulie gonna do with the monstrosity hangin’ ’round his neck? Is he gonna try to Boehner us and shove it down our throats. It won’t be long before we know the answers to these, and many others. Soooooooo, coffee up and get ready for another day. Just remember, the other guys never sleep, they never stop, and their goal is to destroy us and our way of life.

Plus the endless stalling tactics of judicial activism, MSM lunacy, and protesters (pussy-hat and otherwise).
Very much like toddlers, who will scream and cry and carry on ad nauseam, ad infinitum until Mom and Dad have had it, and give in.
So don’t.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day 🙂
LikeLiked by 2 people
Hi! Guess who, here.. Greetings and Salutations! Today’s post is slightly annotated with sprinklings I’ve found on the subjects too extensive to include in their entirety with a side comments or two. Apparently the day is on the slow side, but not unimportant. Enjoy, but first for St. Paddy’s day: “May neighbours respect you, trouble neglect you, the angels protect you, and Heaven accept you.”
This Day in Mostly American History: March 17th
1755: Transylvania Land Company buys Kentucky for $50,000 from a Cherokee chief
1756: St. Patrick’s Day is first celebrated in NYC at the Crown & Thistle Tavern
1762: St Patrick’s Death: Countless legends have grown up around Patrick. Made the patron saint of Ireland, he is said to have baptized hundreds of people on a single day, and to have used a three-leaf clover–the famous shamrock–to describe the Holy Trinity. In art, he is often portrayed trampling on snakes, in accordance with the belief that he drove those reptiles out of Ireland. He is also venerated in the Anglican Communion, the Old Catholic Church and in the Eastern Orthodox Church as equal-to-apostles and the Enlightener of Ireland. For thousands of years, the Irish have observed the day of Saint Patrick’s death as a religious holiday, attending church in the morning and celebrating with food and drink in the afternoon. The first St. Patrick’s Day parade, though, took place not in Ireland, but the United States, when Irish soldiers serving in the English military marched through New York City in 1762.
1766: Britain repeals the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act of 1765 was the first internal tax levied directly on American colonists by the British government. The act, which imposed a tax on all paper documents in the colonies, came at a time when the British Empire was deep in debt from the Seven Years’ War (1756-63) and looking to its North American colonies as a revenue source. Arguing that only their own representative assemblies could tax them, the colonists insisted that the act was unconstitutional, and they resorted to mob violence to intimidate stamp collectors into resigning. Parliament repealed the Stamp Act in 1766, but issued a Declaratory Act at the same time to reaffirm its authority to pass any colonial legislation it saw fit. Taxation without representation and self-rule were two of the primary causes of the American Revolution.
1776: On this day in 1776, British forces are forced to evacuate Boston following General George Washington’s successful placement of fortifications and cannons on Dorchester Heights, which overlooks the city from the south.
During the evening of March 4, American Brigadier General John Thomas, under orders from Washington, secretly led a force of 800 soldiers and 1,200 workers to Dorchester Heights and began fortifying the area. To cover the sound of the construction, American cannons, besieging Boston from another location, began a noisy bombardment of the outskirts of the city. By the morning, more than a dozen cannons from Fort Ticonderoga had been brought within the Dorchester Heights fortifications. British General Sir William Howe hoped to use the British ships in Boston Harbor to destroy the American position, but a storm set in, giving the Americans ample time to complete the fortifications and set up their artillery. Realizing their position was now indefensible, 11,000 British troops and some 1,000 Loyalists departed Boston by ship on March 17, sailing to the safety of Halifax, Nova Scotia. The bloodless liberation of Boston by the Patriots brought an end to a hated eight-year British occupation of the city, known for such infamous events as the “Boston Massacre,”
1804: Birth of Jim Bridger, Mountain Man. Two months before Lewis and Clark begin their epic western expedition, Jim Bridger is born in Richmond, Virginia. Twenty years later, Bridger, heading West along the routes Lewis and Clark pioneered, became one of the greatest mountain men of the 19th century. Though he lacked much formal education, Bridger demonstrated a brilliant ability for finding his way and surviving in the wilderness. As part of the Ashley-Henry team, he helped construct the first fur trading post on the Yellowstone River. At the age of 21, Bridger became the first Anglo definitely known to have seen the Great Salt Lake, though he mistakenly thought it was the Pacific Ocean at the time. He was adept at learning Indian dialects and culture, and he had a tremendous memory for geographical detail.
1845: Rubber band patented by Stephen Perry of London
1868: The first postage stamp canceling machine patent is issued.
1884: John Joseph Montgomery makes the first glider flight in Otay, California
1905: Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, niece of President Theodore Roosevelt, marries Franklin D. Roosevelt in New York. [Please note: This relationship is more interesting than I would have ever thought, until reading about it in search of information for this entry. Did you know FDR was related to 11 other US presidents? Things such as FDR’s infidelities, Eleanor’s activities in the furtherance of women – including her lesbian relationship with a female reporter- and her flying with a pool of female-only reporters were surprises for me. FDR’s mother bought the newlyweds a brownstone and proceeded to buy the next door brownstone for herself and had doors between the units built so she could come and go as she pleased, and interjected herself in all areas of “family” life, including child rearing and finances. You will find more on the less publicized parts of their marriage easily, and I suggest it may well entertain you.]
1964: [Vietnam] National Security Council reviews situation. President Lyndon B. Johnson presides over a session of the National Security Council during which Secretary of Defense McNamara and Gen. Maxwell Taylor present a full review of the situation in Vietnam. During the meeting, various secret decisions were made, including the approval of covert intelligence-gathering operations in North Vietnam; contingency plans to launch retaliatory U.S. Air Force strikes against North Vietnamese military installations and against guerrilla sanctuaries inside the Laotian and Cambodian borders; and a long-range “program of graduated overt military pressure” against North Vietnam. President Johnson directed that planning for the bombing raids “proceed energetically.”
1970: [Vietnam, My Lai Massacre] Results of Peers investigation announced. After investigating, Peers reported that U.S. soldiers committed individual and group acts of murder, rape, sodomy, maiming and assault that took the lives of a large number of civilians–he concluded that a “tragedy of major proportions” occurred at My Lai. The Peers report said that each successive level of command received a more watered-down account of what had actually occurred; the higher the report went, the lower the estimate of civilians allegedly killed by Americans. Peers found that at least 30 persons knew of the atrocity, but only 14 were charged with crimes.
All eventually had their charges dismissed or were acquitted by courts-martial except Lt. William Calley, the platoon leader of the unit involved. He was found guilty of personally murdering 22 civilians and sentenced to life imprisonment, but his sentence was reduced to 20 years by the Court of Military Appeals and further reduced later to 10 years by the Secretary of the Army. Proclaimed by much of the public as a “scapegoat,” Calley was paroled in 1974 after having served about a third of his 10-year sentence.
1910: The Camp Fire Girls are founded in Lake Sebago, Maine.
1944: The US Eighth Air Force bombs Vienna.
1949: The 14th Dalai Lama flees Tibet and goes to India. The Dalai Lama, fleeing the Chinese suppression of a national uprising in Tibet, crosses the border into India, where he is granted political asylum. Born in Taktser, China, as Tensin Gyatso, he was designated the 14th Dalai Lama in 1940, a position that eventually made him the religious and political leader of Tibet. [I highly recommend the movie “Seven Years in Tibet” (starring Brad Pitt) the true story of mountain climber (Austrian) Heinrich Harrer and his close friendship with the Dalai Lama during that period. It is set in the holy city of Lhasa, which was forbidden to foreigners at the time.]
1985: President Ronald Reagan agrees to a joint study with Canada on acid rain
2000: Julia Roberts breaks the glass ceiling in terms of being the first female actress to receive pay parity with top billed male actors, receiving $20,000,000 for her role in the box office hit and receiver of multiple awards *Erin Brockovich* in 2000-2001. By that time, $20 million had become the standard paycheck for Hollywood’s A-list male movie stars, including Mel Gibson, Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise and Sylvester Stallone, among others. Roberts was the first female performer to command this amount. As was reported in Newsweek at the time of Erin Brockovich’s release, Universal Pictures was initially reluctant to hand Roberts her record-breaking paycheck. Her agent, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, reportedly convinced the studio by pointing out the injustice of Hollywood’s double standard. With five movies that grossed more than $100 million, Goldsmith-Thomas argued, Roberts was well worth the same paycheck as male stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio or Adam Sandler, each of whom had commanded $20 million after scoring only one hit of that magnitude. Roberts’ lead in Erin Brockovitch was widely acclaimed, with Roberts receiving 11 awards for her acting. The film also garnered another 7 awards.

1766: Britain repeals the Stamp Act. ….
This paragraph is way over simplified, and continues to misrepresent history. I’m surprised it even mentions the seven year war. King George had been a prince during most of it. When he became King he started trying to get money from any and everywhere. The Stamp act had been one thing in a very long line of things done.
To top it off, it was mostly Samuel Adams rebelling via newspaper OPEDs calling for rebellion. The other colonies were sympathetic to the issues happening in Boston.
Ha! My turn to over simplify!

Thanks – it’s hard to this and not turn it into a research paper daily, lol! The period before the American Revolution is full of backstories with which beg to be included!
I appreciate you jumping on the over simplification trolley car any day!!!

The “Seven Years Wars”, know as the French and Indian War here in the Colonies. American and British officers who fought in this war, also the American Revolutionary War. If had not been for the rearguard action of the Virginians on the banks of the Monongahela, Ltc Howe British Army, might not have been promoted to Lord Howe, Commander of British Forces in the Colonies.

Thanks, stella. I think you brought up her site before. I have looked at it but the days are off for this use. Using tonight’s General Discussion (which is actually dates as for tomorrow’s day) as an example, her dates will be for the today. She’d have to have Tomorrow’s Date in History for me to post some of the good stuff she has at her site. Since I do the prep and post before I turn in for the night I’m not sure how I can coordinate between the two. She’s a good writer and focuses more in depth on a single governmental item or two while I include cultural bits. I’ll play with it and see what I can do. Thanks for the reminder.

P.C. Society tells us not to stereotype.
This movie wouldn’t have been possible without doing exactly that.
Same with the GTA series of videogames. How can you make a black South Central neighborhood feel real without stereotype? Or a Chinatown. Or an Italian mob neighborhood? Or a hillbilly trailer community? Or an upscale yuppie LA area? Answer: you CAN’T.
This movie is good precisely because it stereotypes.

Yes!!!! Beautiful moment…. for us. It is way past time to get tough on these leftists. Better late than never, though! Time to get tough and make examples of some of them so they get the message loud and clear, the law and order president is here!!!! Cheers!!! 🍀🍻

Pres. Trump and Angela Merkel are on right not sitting in those chairs where there are always pictures of the Pres and visitors. Looking at their body language, it looks to me like Pres. Trump is taking a very dominant position. He is sitting straight in the chair and she is leaning toward him and actually looked like she was trying to get his attention. Very interesting.

Best Celtic punk metal ever. We had a guy at work who would hijack the Pandora and put on Dropkick Murphys, just to make the whole kitchen go “Wait, wut?”
Flogging Molly is also incredible.

I’m sure praying that Trump has something solid on those wiretapping allegations he’s made, so far every investigative branch in the goverment that’s completed a check has said they can’t find any evidence. Now a RINO lawyer who worked as Bush’s ‘ethics’ lawyer has come out with a blurb on how Obama could win a libel case against Trump. Ain’t looking good.

I have to wonder if this is a circuitous route to smearing the failing New York Times. He can truthfully say that all he did was comment on what they had reported.

He’s not a professional pol and he has let the press take the ball on this one and run with it. He’s letting too many loose threads float about and that’s not good, especially when you have a goodly part of your own party trying to sink you.

Laptop holding Trump Tower floor plans, Hillary Clinton email investigation info stolen from Secret Service agent
http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/laptop-trump-tower-floor-plans-stolen-secret-service-article-1.3001078
A laptop computer containing floor plans for Trump Tower, information about the Hillary Clinton email investigation and other national security information was stolen from a Secret Service agent’s vehicle in Brooklyn, police sources told the Daily News.
The thief also took “sensitive” documents and the agent’s access keycard, though the level of the agent’s access wasn’t immediately clear.
Why were a laptop, sensitive documents and a keypad left in a SS car? Was the car locked? It doesn’t sound like it.
And a question that just begs my brain is why the heck would an SS laptop have information about Hillary Clinton’s email investigation on it? Is it possible that Hillary’s emails compromised SS ability to keep their ward safe? Curious.
I hope the SS agent is fired and investigated. It could be simple human error, ready to go and then Oh shoot I forgot my phone and she runs back in the house. Human error like that deserves to be fired. If it is more nefarious she should go to jail.
I believe that President Trump is surrounded by the power of prayer. We are in the battle of our lifetime.

Dh and I are planning a Houle tonight, in honor of St . Patrick. I suppose my favorite Irish song is the Patriot Game.
Come all you young rebels,
And list’ while I sing.
For the love of one’s country is a terrible thing.
It banishes fear with the the speed of a flame
And it makes us all part of the patriot game.
My name is O’Hanlon,
And I’m just gone sixteen,
My home is in Monohan,
Where I was weened,
I’ve learned all my life through,
When England to blame,
And so I’m a part of the patriot game.
It’s barely two years since I wondered away,
With the local battalion of the bold I-R-A,
I’ve read of our heroes and I’ve wanted the same,
To play out my part in the patriot game.
This Ireland of ours has for long been half free,
Six counties are under John Bull’s tyranny,
So I gave up my boyhood to drill and to train,
To play my own part in the patriot game.
And now as I lie here,
My body all holes,
I think of those treasures,
Who bargained and sold,
I wish that my rifle had given the same,
To those quislings who sold out the patriot game.

More Secret Service failure. Remember the White House intruder last Friday?
Secret Service: White House jumper was captured after more than 15 minutes
http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/17/politics/white-house-fence-jumper/index.html
The Secret Service acknowledged Friday afternoon that the man who breached White House security last week was on the grounds for more than 15 minutes.
The statement from the Secret Service came after a source told CNN earlier Friday about the length of the incident and the agency’s resulting investigation.
In its statement Friday afternoon, the Secret Service offered some information about the incident and said the “investigation is ongoing,” so far including more than 50 interviews and a review of radio transmissions and video footage.
The review found that the intruder climbed a five-foot fence and an eight-foot gate and then hopped a three-and-a-half foot fence while Secret Service members struggled to locate him.

I bet there’s plenty of veterans who love Trump and would come back into service to protect him. Maybe the president should look into it.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen
