Plus, it’s cold in Kansas. I froze my butt off.
I did have to laugh at my grandson yesterday though, because Canadians were racing they played the Canadian anthem as well as the National Anthem. They played it first and my grandson kept saying, “this not our flag song, where our flag song?” When ours started, he immediately as always put his hand over his heart and remained quiet until it was over and then said, “that other song stupid, me like flag song.”
His Mommy and PaPa came to the track later, PaPa was helping SIL back out car, Mommy stayed in trailer until Daddy’s race. He had to tell both of them as soon as they got there that track was stupid and played wrong flag song. lol

I don’t know that I would want to write down everything he says. The kid is like a sponge and picks up words from everywhere. You can’t take him anywhere where he doesn’t pick up another word and you never know when they’re going to pop out of his mouth. lol

I wish those were the only words he learned. There is a drawback to going to races, racers have potty mouths.
There was a little skirmish in the pits next to us and although we turned the radio up and kept him in the trailer, he still heard enough. So, now he’s telling everyone he’s going to kick their a$$.
I’m not even sure he knows what it means, but am hoping he moves on to a new phrase soon. lol

Once when I was watching my best friends son we were in his playroom and had made quite a mess with the toys. I was about 22 at the time and he was 3.
He wanted to play with more toys and I said Ok but first we have to clean up the toys we already have out. He said no. I said yes we do. He said no. I said we are not taking out any more toys until we clean these toys up.
He stood there for about 15 seconds and then looked me dead in the eye and said “When my mom gets home she’s gonna kick you ass.”
It took everything I had not to roll on the ground laughing. My friend did swear but not much and even less around her son, plus she had never been in a fight, so where he got that particular phrase from was a mystery.

LOL! When my sister was two, she was that way. My aunt took her shopping at a clothing store and the clerk came up to comment on how cute my sister was. My sister’s reply was, “I just hate dumb illiterate people!” (She was 2 yrs old and had heard my aunt say it earlier in the day). Needless to say, the poor clerk was flabbergasted that she’d just heard that come out of baby’s mouth. 😉

It’s funny how things baby hear in the womb, you can tell comforts them now. Most of the time at the races this week, Gracie was in the trailer with the heater where it was warm and had on earphones to protect her ears.
But today when we were getting ready to leave I had her in the car changing her diaper and didn’t think they were ready to start the race car up. She was crying and having a fit as usual during diaper changes and they started the car and she immediately stopped crying when she heard the race car.
She seems to have colic at night, her Mommy is paying for her raising, because for 4 months she screamed at the same time every night for hours, now she gets to hear it, except hers started at about 8 in the evening, Gracie does it every night from about 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. according to them. lol I told them today maybe they need to record the race car running and play that to her at night. 🙂

We had two kids with colic….lotta nights with them in laundry baskets on top of the washing machine or drier or rides in the car. Amazing the volume that those little lungs can produce.

It was car rides for us and then the second you pulled into the drive, the screaming returned.
There is a huge difference between my grandson and granddaughter. He was a really good baby, so good that they got spoiled. This little girl is more demanding, when she’s hungry she lets you know about it. When her diaper is wet she lets you know it. You don’t have to wait for her to let you know when she has a dirty diaper, she lets you know about it before she’s finished soiling it. Then she screams throughout the entire diaper change. She hates to be undressed or dressed. Yet she loves baths, but hates leaving the bath.
She also does not see the need in her Mommy and Daddy sleeping at night, more Mommy than Daddy who has seemed to have learned to sleep through a tornado according to Mommy.

Pregnancy was tougher and she’s tougher now that she’s here than her son.
My pregnancy was easier except for the 42 weeks of puking my guts out and labor and delivery was a breeze, but the first four months of her clockwork screaming for hours made me consider having another one. lol
I told my daughter though for her own sanity sometimes it’s just better to lay her down and walk away for 5 minutes. I was told that and thought it was crazy, but once I tried it I figured out those 5 minutes were a blessing and just enough time to steel your nerves to hear another hour. lol

She’s still a cutie though even if she’s a demanding cutie. She’s also a little fatty, she’s almost gained 4 lbs in a month. She weighs 10 lbs now and is almost 23 inches long. Fat rolls everywhere and 3 chins. lol

Morning S&S, Colonel, and Lovely. This stomach bug is a totally common thing. Probably half of the teams in the race will experience some form of it at some point in the race. If it is mild, then there is just a day or so of diarrhea but the dogs continue to eat and take fluids well. If it is severe, it goes on for days and days, the dogs stop eating and drinking well and become dehydrated, and run fevers. Anderson’s dogs may have been approaching that point, and the only thing to do is to drop out. IV or sub-Q fluid replacement is likely necessary. Aliy had a mild case among her dogs and they seem to have gotten over it, thank goodness.
The problem is always worse in the middle and back of the pack than it is in the front. This is simply due to exposure. A thousand dogs is a LOT of dogs. Each one is eating 10,000 calories a day, and even with very high quality food that means a staggering amount of dog poop. After 15 or 20 teams have passed through a checkpoint, those dogs have left a lot of poop behind. Some volunteers may be trying to clean up after them, but it is hard to shovel diarrhea. All the following teams have to pass through it, getting it on their feet, etc. You can see where this goes. There is nothing rare or strange about it, it happens every year. Sometimes to the mushers as well.

Half the sites or more are opinion/editorial sites. Not “news” sites. Drudge links to every one of their favorite news sites all day long. All he does is choose the order of the headlines, and what to “put above the fold”.
Astonishing list, even. I’m guessing CTH and Vox Popoli are not on the list for the reason that Harvard doesn’t even dare mention that much truth. Those two are like Voldemort, He Who Shall Not Be Named.

When we moved to the Boston area, into an apartment, when I was a HS Senior, my folks went back to MI for a week, and I threw very (somewhat very) responsible party.
I emptied the common rooms of mom’s knick-knacks (and all the doilies under them) on the shelves, every single one, and put them all in the folks’ room. The next day me and my best friends put the place back together again.
When the folks came back, they knew immediately. Mom said it was because all the doilies were under the wrong knick-knacks.

I informed the neighbors in the two apartments above us that yes, twenty or thirty underage people are going to be in the apartment below you, drinking, smoking, and listening to somewhat loud music, and I also explained to them why.
They never called the cops on us. Me and my friends in that neighborhood were peaceful and intellectual kids, for the most part.
WE called the cops, actually. Someone stole my buddy’s car, out of my driveway. I remember going out the back door, to give a towel to the girl who was puking off the back porch (“Mama told me not to come….”) and seeing that my buddy’s car was gone. I went back into the living room and there he was. I said, “Dude, you’re still here, man!” He said “What?” It turns out someone completely unknown to all of us just jacked this guy’s car, took it for a joyride, and crashed it into a phone pole.
The only other incident at that party was me throwing one of my best friends on the ground and raising my fist, and saying “Don’t you ever attack a woman in my presence again.” He never did. He ended up marrying the girl I set him up with.
That party was 1989.

From an email that’s circling the web;
.
“””””””””Arizona Governor Jan Brewer vs. the Phoenix Suns owner
The owner of the Phoenix Suns basketball team,
Robert Sarver, came out strongly opposing
AZ’s new immigration laws.
Arizona’s Governor, Jan Brewer,
released the following statement in response to
Sarver’s criticism of the new law:
“What if the owners of the Suns discovered that
hordes of people were sneaking into games without paying?
What if they had a good idea who the gate-crashers are
but the ushers and security personnel were not allowed
to ask these folks to produce their ticket stubs,
thus non-paying attendees couldn’t be ejected.
Furthermore, what if Suns’ ownership was expected to
provide those who sneaked in with complimentary
eats and drink?
And what if, on those days when a gate-crasher
became ill or injured, the Suns had to provide
free medical care and shelter?”
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer “”””””””””
Don’t know if Governor Brewer said this or not. Sums up the illegal immigration arguments…….

I wasn’t aware of the huge fire in the Texas panhandle until I saw one of WeeWeed’s posts over on Facebook. Here’s some information about it. People and cattle have been killed, houses destroyed, and a half million acres burned, leaving cattle with nothing to eat. People all over the midwest and the south are pitching in to help – donating and hauling hay, donating money etc – like good people always do. The Facebook post that WW shared broke my heart:
Ramey J. Keeth
March 10 at 7:01pm ·
Just unloaded two loads of hay out on the ranch in Canadian. When we rolled up loaded with hay the tough old lifelong rancher walked up to the window to introduce himself. With tears in his eyes that began to roll down his old weathered face he said with a cracking voice “you’ve just made my whole day sir”. Without a dry eye between us we started to get unloaded. That exact moment is why we are doing it folks. That’s why we are ALL doing what we can to give these fine people some hope. It sure made it worth 5 hours of sleep in the last three days and put pride in my heart and soul for all the people who have donated a helped me do what I’m doing.
I will cling to the old rugged cross, and exchange it someday for a crown.

More info:
Kimberly Brian
March 9 at 1:20pm ·
This picture makes me incredibly sad, but it’s a picture that speaks volumes. Cows are not afraid of fire, they don’t run from it. They also don’t run from smoke. They will huddle together thinking that a cloud of smoke is a thunderstorm. Over 400,000 acres in the panhandle have burned this week. If you can help or want to help contact your local Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office or The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. Hay donations are being accepted and welcome, hauling services are also needed.
Oh and one more thing….. I would like to point out to those of you outside of the agriculture industry who believe/support PETA and The Humane Society of the US, that they are no where to be seen. They aren’t stepping up to help, they aren’t using their millions upon millions of dollars (that they raise with sad puppy videos) to help the livestock affected by these devastating fires, or to feed the surviving animals. Now the agriculture industry, fellow ranchers are. I just saw a post from a ranch in Missouri donating 1000 bales of Hay. Ranchers have died in these fires trying to protect and save their animals. Just something for that particular segment of the population to think about.
Updated: Please contact the organizations listed above to find out what help is currently needed. The needs will change as more donations and help arrives. Also a personal note, I never thought this post would be shared almost 600 times, and due to the nature of social media that has made the comments section a free for all. Please be respectful to the lives (human and animal) lost, along with the property damages and losses. I will moderate and delete comments as/if they are a problem, disrespectful or if I feel like they will turn this post into something it was never intended to be which is some political thread for people to argue on.
AND More:
http://www.dallasnews.com/news/fire-1/2017/03/06/wildfires-threaten-hundreds-texas-panhandle-homes
Although fire danger is greatly reduced, there are still those who are homeless, and cattle that are hungry.

Because food doesn’t come from farms and ranches, it comes from grocery stores. Most people in urban areas think it magically appears in bags, boxes, bottles and cans on shelves. Exciting to me because it is looking like Dallas Seavey will NOT win this one, and that makes me happy. His dad, Mitch Seavey, is in command at the front. His GPS tracker shows him at mile 826, about 12 miles ahead of Dallas and moving over a mile per hour faster. This gives him a widening lead of over an hour. Both teams still have 12 dogs on the gangline, which is very strong for this point in the race. The guys providing Insider videos (behind a pay wall, which I happily pay for every year) all agree that Mitch’s team looks awesome. They were moving at 11 MPH while out on the sea ice, and moving smartly when it was time to leave the last checkpoint at Koyuk.
Most teams by this point in the race are down to 10-12 dogs. There is a point of diminishing returns in the number of dogs running. The more dogs you have the more time it takes at each stop to feed and care for them. And mushers are running on adrenaline and gas fumes by the last 300 miles. They are severely sleep deprived and nearly zombie-like in their efforts to keep moving. Of the 68 teams still officially running the race, only 2 still have the full 16 dogs they started with; one is Jessie Royer who is in 6th position just ahead of Aliy. The other is a rookie way at the back of the pack. It is hard to imagine that she will make it all the way to Nome with all 16 dogs, but who knows. Having more than 12 dogs doesn’t mean you go faster. Mostly it means you can pull more weight or climb hills more easily. But mushers tend to switch out their sleds at the end for racing models, so pulling more weight is not necessary, and there are not many hills left. I’ll be interested to see if Jessie drops 4 or 5 dogs at next couple of checkpoints. She is 4 hours ahead of the team behind her, so probably not worried about being overtaken. A top 10 finish with 16 dogs in harness is nearly unheard of.
Mitch is about 70 miles from White Mountain, so should get there sometime this evening. There is a mandatory 8 hour rest there, and then 77 miles to the finish line in Nome. The order coming in to White Mountain is the order of finishing, pretty much, unless two teams are within a few miles of each other. The first few teams should make it to Nome by tomorrow afternoon.
Aliy is currently resting at Shaktoolik, mile 758, in either 8th or 9th position, depending on when she leaves. She arrived with 12 dogs. She is maintaining a good moving average speed of 7.9 MPH. How much rest they need between here and Nome will determine her finishing place.
Go Aliy! Go dogs!

Do they measure how much weight the mushers lose during the race?

Most mushers lose 5-10 pounds over the course of the race.

Oh, wow. I need to run 3 or 4 races myself, I guess.

Thanks. I figured they’d lose quite a bit.

Thematic but in the 90s I got to work on winnowing tne debrief files of the Korean War POWs. We were building a database, cross referencing various POW’s debfiefs to put a potential location on MIAs and POWs who died in captivity but weren’t accounted for. For years after that I gotbthe DPOM press releases for recovered MIA remains and each time a release citing the recovery Korean War remains came out I couldn’t help but wonder if our work contributed to it.

I finally got a quiet time to listen to our President’s discussion with all kinds of people impacted by the ACA. So glad he took the time to hear their stories, because I think we were all at that table. A fundamental question came to mind, perhaps initiated by the ER experience today. Is good Healthcare a right or a privilege?

I think everyone has the right to access to healthcare. Who pays for it is another discussion.

Point.
Everyone has the right to access a Maybach, too.
Since I have the right to one, all my neighbors have to pay for mine.

Huh? Just because you have equal access, doesn’t mean that others must pay for it

It is still swirling around my head.. and I don’t have a good answer… Does everyone have the right to enough food? Does that mean you can walk into Ruth Chris and demand a free dinner? You can apply and receive some kind of food(stamp) card, but not every place is forced to accept it.
A lot to consider.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen

There are times I’m glad I’m old, raising a child these days would get me in trouble I think.
I heard a story tonight that made me want to slap parents upside the head. These two little 8 year old boys got into a fist fight at ball practice. Parents broke it up, told the kids why they shouldn’t be fighting, 5 minutes later the boys were best friends playing together and all was forgotten, normal boy stuff. Then one of the mothers got home and decided to go on a rant on FB about bad parents raising bullies and because their kid was a bully her baby had a swollen lip. From the story I was told by those who witnessed it, both boys were throwing punches.
So that ticked the other mother off who didn’t like her boy being a bully and they started a FB fight.
Parents and society need to figure out, you might want to make little boys not be little boys, but little boys are going to be boys and for hundreds of years little boys got into fights and worked out their differences to go on and become friends without any help from mommy and neither of them were bullies.

Yet another program tonite thst’s bound to be a shoo-in on the CAIR Dhimmi Awards, NBC’s looking gor a sweep. Yes, NBC again, first replacing Leno with Jimmy Fallon, now replacing a healthy caution of inchecked Islamization with full and unquestioning acceptance of cultural corrosion.
Tonite a secret US government sgency discovered a plot by white patriots high in the US government to frame Moslems in DC in a series of suicide attacks and for e the president to once sgain put troops on Islamic soil in a Mideast war. They kidnapped a Moslem immigrant, who we see playing soccer in the park with his Dondi-looking child, and padlocked a suicide vest onto him. They efured him in a space indide of a Strarbucks-looking place, planning on blowing up a gaggle of progressives hsving freetrade, sustainable, organic coffee while they waited for their pink hats to come back from the cleaners.
Afte several references to Islam being a religion of peace and suicide bombing being forbidden bt Allah our American protagonist (who’s white and has a black paramour) saves the inadvertent Moslem suicide bomber by risking his life to neutralize the vest, which he does with just three seconds left on the countdown timer…4 better than James Bond.
In the end our protagonist takes part in an extrajudicial assassination of the high-ranking Administration Islamophobe to send a clear message to others in the government who’d dare smear the hood name of Islam and try to force another anti-Islamic Mideast war on the peace loving American people.
Who’s in charge of NBC’s social engineering department, a community college drama major?

Was gonna post a pic to notify folks older than Rhea here who exactly Dondi was, but said, “Screw it. All these folks were reading Dondi in their local newspaper.”
