I have a friend with 5 cats, bless her, all rescues. The last one, Sydney, was trapped in her yard. He is not entirely feral, but close. She spent a lot of time and love on Sydney, and now it has been payed back 100 times over. Sydney is a real joy to her, very intelligent, funny and friendly to a degree. We do not exchange gifts, but I sent her a Christmas ornament, just for him..
Happy Caturday for Sydney, now in a loving forever home.

Going into town today to buy a tree – irony of owning thousands but having to buy one is not lost – so the battle of tree versus pets looms. Thinking of going back to pre-Christian Eastern Europe traditions and using an oak, those I got. Won’t stop that pet problem though..

One big reason I switched to artificial. Bad scratches from the cat when she tried to climb the tree. The other was the trunk through the storm door on a windy day.

Czarina’s really big on a live tree. A couple of times we’ve used one of our smaller pibes we’ve had tomthin, sorta fir a personal touch, but they tend to look Charlie Brownish. Good thing about artificial ones is that you can just leave it up, as some folks do, putting purple, gren and gold andbother Mardi Gras elements, on it. Then you can jump to an Easter-themed tree, then to a spring one…it goes on and on.

Even better, you can put it up a week or two before Christmas without worrying about it drying out and spontaneously combusting.

I hurt myself trying to get my tree out of it’s storage place in the closet. I finally had the teenage boy from next door get it all down for me. I am considering leaving it up in the living room. It is an artificial pencil tree and it just might work.

I used to remove the breakable ornaments, than carefully carry the tree down to the basement. Left it there, wrapped in plastic till next year. Actually had two full size trees that went there..artificial, of course.

I am in an apartment and there is a small storage area in one closet. Unfortunately you have to climb up on a platform that is about 4 feet up to reach the storage. I think tree will stay in the living room now.

No, we have a few local small businesses we support and the nursey we get out Christmas tree from is one of them.
We could grow our own but northern firs/spruces don’t grow here and the cedars/cypress that pass ad Christmas trees here leave me cold.

or spray it with fabrize and put it in the bathroom all year….no one will really notice if you hand towels on it or a roll or toilet paper.

Yeah, Katrina followed by Obama…a double disaster for the folks around NOLA who worked for a living. The city’s character changed and shootings/murders ticked up. City’s charging ahead to get as much money from the Feds for Katrina-related rebuilding as they can (yes, Katrina money’s still flowing into the city) before, they fear, Trump closes the tap. Poverty and illiteracy rates pretty much the same though, so perhaps the POtuS couldn’t even inspire his supporters to join mainstream society.
Not where this thread was going but where I’m at, at the moment.
