When my great-aunt was born it was obvious she had eye problems. She was consecrated to Saint Lucy and named Lucille. This is how I came to know about St. Lucy.
When we were on vacation in Sicily (in spring it is among the most gorgeous places to visit), we visited the catacombs of Syracuse as well as the church that houses her relics. Considering her importance to Sicilians and Scandinavians alike, the church is surprisingly not as well maintained as other sites.

copied from the internet:
my great grandmother perfected a dish that made use of a common pest abundant on her eastern Montana homestead, and like the capybara, it is a member of the rodent family. Of course, I am referring to the marmot, or whistle pig as Granny called them. This recipe is probably the root of a family tradition—never waste beer, ammo, or something potentially edible.
What You’ll Need
1 marmot (the bigger the better) skinned, quartered, and deboned
2 1/2 cans grain beer
2 cups buttermilk
1/2 cup water
4 large garlic cloves, pressed
1 large onion, chopped
2 large potatoes, cubed
3 large carrots, chopped
6-8 mushrooms, whole
2 strips bacon, chopped
1 tbsp. Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
Preparation
In a large bowl or marinating pan, combine the buttermilk, one can of beer, and two cloves of garlic. Soak the marmot meat in this mixture. Overnight is recommended, but soaking the meat for a couple of hours will suffice. In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon until lightly crisped. Using a slotted spoon, remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan. With the skillet on low heat, add a portion of onions, a pinch of garlic, and the Worcestershire sauce. Once the mixture is aromatic, add the meat and brown lightly on both sides. Once the meat is browned, add the contents of the skillet, one-and-a-half cans of beer, the bacon, and the rest of the ingredients to a slow cooker. Set the cooker on low and stir periodically. Once the potatoes and carrots are cooked through, the meal is ready.
Tips & Tricks
Depending upon how the marmot was procured, it might be important to remove any bullet fragments from the flesh. Use only the larger cuts of meat; forgo rib and head sections as they’re not worth the trouble. Feel free to get creative with the marinade, as marmot can be a touch stringy. Buttermilk really works wonders as a tenderizer, and teriyaki, sweet chili sauce, maple syrup, or a host of other things may be added according to one’s tastes. If you’re feeling especially gourmand-ish, drain the stew liquid into a separate bowl and add seasoned flour to turn out some unique gravy, then serve the whole mess over a bed of rice. This recipe also works wonders with rabbit, game birds, and even neck roasts from larger game. Keep it simple, and when your guests ask what kind of meat you used, tell them it’s whistle pig. They’ll just assume it’s some sort of pork. Bon appétit.

A related strange eats story – In Michigan, Catholics are allowed to eat muskrat as an alternative to fish during Lent.
http://catholicreview.org/article/life/muskrat-love-a-lenten-friday-delight
The custom of eating muskrat on Ash Wednesday and Fridays in Lent apparently goes back to the early 1800s, the time of Father Gabriel Richard, an early missionary in Michigan whose flock included French-Canadian trappers. Legend has it that because trappers and their families were going hungry not eating flesh during Lent, he allowed them to eat muskrat, with the reasoning that the mammal lives in the water.
The story varies on just where in Michigan the dispensation extends. Among areas mentioned are along the Raisin River, along the Rouge River, both of which flow into Lake Erie south of Detroit, Monroe County in the southeast corner of Michigan, or all of southeast Michigan.

Trump warns Electoral College
lawsuit could undermine his election
By Kyle Cheney
12/12/16 01:50 PM EST
The filing is the first evidence that Trump and his campaign are paying close attention to the legal efforts supporting the longshot bid to stop him from taking office. Baca and Nemanich are leaders in a group called “Hamilton Electors” that is working to convince dozens of Republican electors around the country to unite behind a mainstream GOP alternative to Trump. So far, nine Democratic electors have endorsed the effort and one Republican – Chris Suprun of Texas – has signaled support as well.

The Rat electors will be Rat electors and that RINO elector will probably see his career in politics, if not the private life, take a dive. Trump Republicans will not forget those who bolt and it’s safe bet that RINOs, in the long run, won’t trust them either – if they knifed their charges once…
The National Archivist has weighed in saying this isn’t the first hotly contested Electoral College contest but 99% of past electors have voted true, and as they have to account for their votes they aren’t as likley to jump dhip. This is the second time in less thst twenty years we’ve had a contested election andvit’s starting to look like this will be the norm until the balance of parasite versus democratic voters is resolved.

Watched them sacrifice the US POWs in the North just as they did the US POWs in WWII and Korea. Now, some 70 years down the road with thecremaining eyewitnesses dieing off to almost nothing, they are reengineering the stories of WWII and Korea. Let’s see how the veterans of Iraq and Afghanista take to their squandering their sacrifices and reengineering their stories.

They call for 1/2 tsp of water in each egg compartment. I found 1/2 a bit much but start there and scale back by drops if you want a firmer egg. You have to work at ruining an egg in this thing, don’t let it cow you.

So, just to prove how far the indoctrination goes, here is a question that was in my college text book (paraphrased):
“You are in charge of community corrections and you must make an appointment of someone to the head a particular department. There are two men up for the position. One is black, has fifteen years of service, and gets good scores on his continuing education tests that are given by the state. The other is white, has twenty years of service, and scores near the top of the exams. A retiring judge tells you she thinks the black man should be appointed because most of the neighborhood this department would be working with is black, and so he is her recommendation. Who would you pick and why?”
I’m glad we didn’t actually have to answer this one, because being PC isn’t my style and I would have probably written a rant about MLK and judging people on character and qualifications not skin color (and probably would have thrown in something about the soft bigotry of low expectations while I was at it, too.) This pandering nonsense is getting out of hand.
But what do you all think?

“One is black, has fifteen years of service, and gets good scores on his continuing education tests that are given by the state.”
Obviously someone else’s nephew. Nobody scores that well on the test.
“The other is white, has twenty years of service, and scores near the top of the exams.”
Isn’t this the same guy that was found to only show up for two hours before leaving to play golf the rest of the day?
“A retiring judge tells you she thinks the black man should be appointed because most of the neighborhood this department would be working with is black, and so he is her recommendation.”
Oops. I guess we know who’s nephew it is.

First…define “community corrections” in terms of objectives, goals, and measurement.
Second…define what “years of service” actually MEANS in terms of competency, accomplishment, successful vision, wisdom, universal maturity, communications skills…or merely TIME IN PLACE.
Third…decide not to hire anyone and let the Community Correct itself on its own.

Lemme see….once again the local press is looking at the numbers of shootings in New Orleans, wailing about how they are higher than they’ve been in years. As they go on about ‘guuuunnnnn violennnnnccceeeeeee’, mothers of dead thugs cry about how there ‘be too many gunses on the street’ and the talking heads show maps of where the clustered incidences of ‘guuuuunnnnn vilennnnccceeee’ occured the modt outstanding feature is…….thry are overwhelmingly in the same majority black areas of town they’ve been centered in for the 30 years we were there.
Dozens of ‘community healing’ programs have been instituted over those 30 years and the results….bupkis. And it’s never the fault of community geing serviced, it’s always the fault of outside influences, frequently blamed on some commission/omission on the oart of those being bled to pay for the programs.

WSJ: An Electoral College Coup
FTA: What should really distress Americans is that the losers are trying to overturn the election results based on little more than anonymous leaks and innuendo. Whatever Russia’s hacking motives, there is no evidence that the emails it turned up were decisive to the election result. Mr. Podesta is citing a CIA judgment that Americans have never seen and whose findings are vaguely public only because one or more unidentified officials chose to relate them to a few reporters last week.
Much of the press is reporting these as the gospel truth, though it isn’t clear that the CIA’s judgment is even shared across the intelligence community. The FBI doesn’t share the CIA’s confidence about Russia’s hacking motive, and our sources say the evidence is thin for the CIA’s conclusion.

There WAS NO HACKING. It was a LEAK. As in: wikiLEAKS.
Someone inside the DNC got hold of Hillary’s and Podesta’s e-mails, because her private, illegal server was less secure than G-mail, and probably 100 people had her username and password, and gave the dump to Assange.
All that happened comes back to Pizzagate, which is funny, I guess.

“But in the same way President Kennedy talked about the space mission and got the country behind that,” Gates continued, “I think whether it’s education or stopping epidemics … [or] in this energy space, there can be a very upbeat message that [Trump’s] administration [is] going to organize things, get rid of regulatory barriers, and have American leadership through innovation.”

Sprint has just announced it will give one million wireless devices to the underprivileged at no chargevto bring them into the wireless age. Of course ‘FREE’ is a relative term as I’m willing to bet they’ll end up being deducted from corporate profits meaning we’ll pay for them. There was also no word as to who’ll pay for the air time…think how printers and printer ink works. “Hey kid, wanna try a wireless…first one’s free..”
Now if we could just get them to bring service, don’t even want no free stuff, just reasonably priced setvice, to flyover country. Especially after $2-billion was tossed into the wind.

I haven’t been around much because I’ve been busy. My daughter a few weeks ago one night started having a lot of back pain and a lot of pressure one night. She went to the hospital and no early labor, but the baby had dropped extremely low. They didn’t put her on complete bedrest but told her to take it easy, no lifting including her son. He’s a mamas boy, so Nanny has stepped in, not that she’s complaining, but a soon to be 2 year old doesn’t understand why mama can’t “pick up,” but he has learned real quick, “Nanny pick up and give to mama!”
At her Dr. appointment last week she was measuring behind, concerning the doctor, worrying the Nanny. She ordered a growth scan, had it today and all is good. Her cervix is showing no signs of her being so low causing her to go into early labor and her estimated due date hasn’t changed and the ultrasound measurement show her to be right on in size.
So now they’ve decided she’s just going to get to be miserable for the next two months unless the little ornery girl decides to move up, which is still a possibility, but if not she gets to experience the constant pressure that will get worse as she gets bigger along with back pain and feeling like the kid is going to fall out at any minute.
To err on the side of caution, no lifting, no exercising, short walks only until she either moves up or it’s closer to delivery time. Oh and her bladder is taking a beating as well, I get told that several times a day. lol
