You should try a spot of Lapsang Souchong.
Tastes very smoky. Like bong water. No cream or sugar can improve it.
I used to set up Tea, at 3:00 PM, of course, in the Great Library at a very exclusive condo in downtown Boston. We had every variety of Twinings, and every variety of Pepperidge Farm’s fancy cookies. A nice silver samovar, too.

Other than Irish and English Breakfast, Lapsang is the only tea I drink. It is like a liquid camp fire.

It might actually be good with whiskey and maple syrup.

I never liked Earl Gray either. Secret ingredient: “oil of bergemot”. I don’t want oil in my tea. I want oil in my snowblower, or my fryer.
My favorite Twinings teas were English and Irish Breakfast. More caffeinated than coffee.

If the US govt under Obama owned the Budweiser Horses, he would appoint a special grooming czar for foot hair management and each horse foot would have a staff dedicated to making certain that their foot was all AOK at any time….unless of course it was a federal holiday, in which case the darn horses could just have to wait and be dirty while fed employees get the long weekend off.

Before a KC Chiefs game, mid ’90s, a team of Clydesdales was hitched and standing around before showtime. One of the wranglers I was talking to said there are 10 teams throughout the US that do appearances weekly. Costs about 100,000 p/week, p/team. These Clydesdales work for 5-7 years, then turned out to pasture. Yes, I was a gentleman helping Ms. Budweiser up to her seat on the wagon………

Back to my old Bud story.
Sonecyears ago I was assigned to a section of the Mardi Gras parade assembly route where the Bud wagon was setting up. Being a cop, and totally taking advantage of it, I wentnover to where Bud team was being harnessed. I watched as they were set up and hooked to the wagon, then walked around the wagon. On the other side, sitting on the curb, was part of the wagon crew, next to them was a large beer cooler.
I walked over and, as I watched, one of the crew opened the cooler and pulled out a cold, dripping, icy……Coors Light. The whole cooler was full if Coors Light.

Up early today, TV weatherguessers were al showing maps of brightly colored death and destruction tearing through the area well before dawn. Even though the core of the tornado watch was well north of us and we were in a ‘marginal’ zone they told us all to get our Munchkin translators out as we were all in imminent danger of being blown to Oz.
Future weather guesstimate maps showed huge angry swaths of red thru purple flooding and miscellaneous ruination bearing down on us.
As of now, less than a 10th of an inch since midnight and the leading egde of the projected doom, immediately west of us, is broken and mostly light yellow to green on the Doppler.
They need a Emmy catagory for ‘best fiction writing in a weather broadcast’.

Czarina made my fav (next to real Key Lime), a cranberry-apple pie. The turkey carcass is in the pot as I speak, getting boiled down for gumbo or stew. Not sure yet.
We have bags of frozen persimmon, roasted squash, pumpkin and overripe bananas in the freezer for various breads. A chunk of good pie or fruit bread with a dollop of quality French vanilla ice cream and perhaps a brandy or Drambuie makes a nasty evening easier to take.

Sub Blueberries for Huckleberries…
Huckleberry Lemon Verbena Tea Cake with Vanilla Bean Glaze {Gluten-Free}
Don’t fret if you don’t have huckleberries; this cake should work equally well with fresh or frozen blueberries (especially wild ones), raspberries, or blackberries. If you don’t have fresh lemon verbena on hand, try using an equal amount of basil, mint, or lemon balm, or 1 tablespoon fresh lemon thyme leaves, or 1 tablespoon lavender buds, ground finely, in its place. If you or your cake-eaters are highly sensitive to gluten, make this with flours that are certified gluten-free, particularly the oat flour. If gluten isn’t an issue for you or your cake-eaters, feel free to try this with 1 3/4 cups all-purpose wheat flour instead of the rice, oat, millet, and tapioca flours. (Or use this recipe and add lemon verbena to it.)
Makes one 8×4, 9×5, or 10×5″ loaf
For the cake:
1 stick (4 ounces / 115 grams) unsalted butter, softened
3 ounces (85 grams) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup (3.5 ounces / 100 grams) organic blonde cane sugar
finely grated zest of 1 lemon
2 large eggs, at room temperature
3/4 cup (4 ounces / 115 grams) sweet white rice flour (mochiko)
1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons (1.5 ounces / 45 grams) GF oat flour
1/4 cup (1.25 ounces / 35 grams) millet flour
2 tablespoons (.5 ounces / 15 grams) tapioca flour/starch
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
1 cup fresh or frozen huckleberries, plus 1/4 cup for topping the cake (7.75 ounces total / 220 grams)
3-4 tablespoons chopped fresh lemon verbena
For the glaze:
1/2 cup (2 ounces / 60 grams) powdered sugar
seeds from 1/2 a small vanilla bean (or a splash of vanilla extract)
1-2 tablespoons lemon juice (enough to make a drizzle-able glaze)
tiny lemon verbena leaves for garnish, optional
Make the cake:
Position a rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 350ºF. Line a loaf pan (I used a 10×5″ pan but a 9×5 or 8×4 will work, too) on the bottom and sides with parchment paper (or grease with softened butter, dust with flour, and tap out the excess).
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment (or in a large bowl fitted with your arms and a wooden spoon), cream together the butter, cream cheese, sugar, and lemon zest on medium speed until light and fluffy, 3-4 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing to combine after each, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed. The mixture may look broken; this is ok, it will come together in the next step.
Meanwhile, sift together the sweet rice, oat, millet, and tapioca flours with the baking powder and salt into a medium bowl. With the mixer on low, stir the flour mixture into the butter mixture until just thoroughly combined, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed. Remove the bowl from the mixer, add the 1 cup of huckleberries and all of the chopped lemon verbena, and fold gently to combine, scraping the bottom and sides of the bowl to make sure the batter is homogeneous.
Scrape the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle with the remaining 1/4 cup huckleberries and press them gently into the batter.
Bake the cake until the top is lightly golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, or with a few moist crumbs, 45-55 minutes in a 10×5″ pan (longer for smaller pans). Lift out of the pan and let cool until barely warm, an hour or so.
Make the glaze:
In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla bean, and enough lemon juice to make a drizzle-able glaze. Whisk well to eradicate lumps. Peel the parchment away from the sides of the cake. Drizzle the glaze over the top of the cake and let cool completely.
Serve the cake at room temperature, scattered with tiny lemon verbena leaves, if you like. Extras keep well, airtight at room temperature, for a day or two, or refrigerated for up to a few days (let come to room temperature for best results).
Note to Czar: The glaze
may be a no-no for you.
Should be able to omit.

Sure thing. It’s worth the trouble to make, believe me. I think it is much better after it has chilled in the fridge for awhile, but that’s just personal. This is probably my favorite cake recipe. Some restaurants serve tea with the infuser inside of the cup along side a pot of hot water. Steep your first cup of tea in the cup then put the infuser in the pot. There should be a tea caddy to rest the tea steeper in but I believe it is more of a artsy picture than anything else 🙂

We have an incredible stuffed french toast dish that requires prepping grapes that have been neatly sliced in half, tossed with grapeseed oil and fresh-plucked rosemary, then baked for exactly 11 minutes at 350. Fill a small plate with grapes. Put another small plate on top of it, inverted. Cleanly slice all the grapes in half in 10 seconds with an offset bread knife. Pluck your rosemary, add it. Splash your oil. Put that half-sheet in the oven.

Diversity Officer at US Colleges and University is an evolutionary position.
Started in principle a LONG time ago before the US Academic community decided that everyone and everything is equal and deserves to be parented forever by an institutional parent and cultural society. Don’t believe it…look at the early candidates for the job.
Now you can laugh, be offended, or pay no attention…but no flags were burned in posting this comment and picture. Consider it 1st Amendment humor maybe.

Yes Mam, I keep thonking about his feelings…did he feel the round that ended his murderous rampage? What was the last thing to go thru his mind and what caliber was it? Then again, Ms Diversity Officer, maybe in the community you service, murderous reactions to perceived insults is a norm and you don’t recognize civilized resolutions of issues as a viable alternative.

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like he suffered much or had much time for self reflection. No blood smears around the body, or even a pool of blood that I could see so likely a kill shot with internal blood collecting.

When somebody is murdering, or attempting to murder, another human being, I consider ending their life to be a civilized resolution, as I know you do.

Stella, 2003-2016
My baby is gone. She declined rapidly this past week, and it was a mercy (though sad) to let her go this morning. The vet, the tech and I were all crying and hugging, and Stella was surrounded by people who cared about her.

Luna has known something is up for a couple of days now. She has been sniffing Stella, and slept right up against my chest the past two nights.
It was very sad, but there was no doubt that it was time for her to go. She was dazed, probably because of the anemia, so weak that she could no longer stand, wasn’t eating anything for the past two days, and drinking very little.

Blake was our first dog, he was with us for about 15 years. Zauber was second, he went for about ten but he was an oversized GSD and his hips just totally gave out. Both had to be euthanized and I sat with them as they left us, we still have their ashes. Yes, they get under your skin.

Stella, A short poem that perhaps will help heal your sorrow. I found this little poem years ago and always take it out of my Bible and read it when one of my beloved pets have reached the end of their life.
I explained to St. Peter,
I’d rather stay here,
Outside the pearly gate,
I won’t be a nuisance,
I won’t even bark,
I’ll be very patient and wait.
I’ll be here, chewing on a celestial bone,
No matter how long you may be,
I’d miss you so much, if I went in alone,
It wouldn’t be heaven to me.

NOLA TV is glowing about how some 68-thousand fans attended the annual Bayou Classic football game between historically black Grambling and Southern Universities. They are equally tortuous in trying to spin the shooting in the French Quarter involving two attendees. The actors are said to be from ‘out of town’, one station said once they were students but neither that station nor any other said that again. No surveillance videos are being shown and any possible references connecting the Bayou Classic, its attendees or any other potentially embarrassing information is being quashed.
So, apparently using revised standards, 68-thousand attendees with only one death and nine wounded (not counting persons in the Quarter/downtown who were just physically assailted) is a success!

Don’t know, being a reactionary Southern redneck I was more interested in watching the press squirm trying to report the various assaults without reporting the various assaults.
Note that this year there was virtually ZERO reporting on the huge parade of thugmobiles that traditionally parade Canal street at 5 mph, enhanced sound systems blaring obscene rap music atvear shattering levels, blocking traffic and sparking rolling gang fights. Citynpolice have sorta been told to ease up,on enforcement. Also the suggestions that locals who don’t really have a reason to be out on the streets in their own town might want to stay home during the ‘celebration’ were noticably absent.

well, since Pat Obriens had to stop selling Hurricane glasses and would not let everyone contribute to the street broken glass litter, I have felt that NO just would not have much appeal banking on beads and jazz music…so maybe girls pulling up their shirts for beads replaced Mari Gras real stuff that we enjoyed a million years ago when I was there in 1962.
Next up maybe….the Ku Klux Krews…..possibly?

The Quarter’s turned into a huge money machine, none of the mass-sales bars use glass any more, all use pkadtic ‘go cups’. They just sell the cup with the drink as you can drink out of plastic and you can just leave without eating up floor space. They also don’t have to worry about glases being stolen for souvenirs or having to wash glasses.
Some years before Katrina our activist mayor and city council decided to stick it to the Mardi Gras krewes, especially the old line 19th century ones, and ordered they allow anyone who wanted to to join or they wouldn’t be allowed to parade on city streets. Most caved in but a few just dropped parading, remainded krewes doing social programs and having parties but no uses of city property.
Being part of a krewe is very expensive. Back in the early 80s I worked with a guy who was a member of a big, old krewe. His yearly dues were around $25,000 and that didn’t include his miscellaneous expenses which easily equalled his dues. Expenses haven’t gotten no betterer either, we’ve had a number of krewes over the last few years that have stopped parading due to the costs. Considering the expenses involved and the city leaders activism I can’t help but wonder when the city will start issuing ‘krewe stamps’ to facilitate inclusion?

For today’s episode of ‘Law & Order for True’, Louisiana: womam meets a man on line and agrees to meet him in another city. Guy meets her, kidnaps her and dtoves away with her. She manages to jump out of his truck (BTW, he’s also hauling a big tool trailer), runs into a store and calls 911. Police find truck, he drives some ten miles, police in pursuit, gets onto a bridge that’s about 26 miles long and totally over water with original police and new bridge police in pursuit. On the south side of the bridge he now picks up a group of shefiff’s deputies to the following…he’s still pulling the trailer…and he drives through one of the most densely populated areas in the parish, over another huge bridge over the Mississippi where he adds police from another jurisdiction…did I mention he’s still pulling a trailer?
He stops in the city and a very close range gun battle ensues, recordings have it sounding like Saturday night in Fallujah. Situation ends when police bring the shooter’s Mom to the site to aid in his surrender. Casualties are one police officer grazed by someone’s bullet and minor injuries to the kidnapper. No word on how many bullet holes are in how much private property.

Some good news…
Donald Trump met with U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara on Wednesday at Trump Tower, a senior law enforcement official told NBC News.
Bharara, whom many regard as the Justice Department’s most powerful prosecutor, told reporters that he agreed to remain the U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York after a “good meeting” with the president-elect. He added that Sen. Jeff Sessions, Trump’s attorney general pick, previously reached out to him, asking him to stay as well.

Stella, I always rely on Carlin’s advice regarding good dogs.
Get another good dog, and the love is back. It’s unconditional. Puppy or old rescue.
He’s crude about this fact: Life is a series of dogs.
Get another of the same breed and you don’t even have to change the pics on your mantle.
If Tripod kicked the bucket tonight, I’d have to get another kitteh by Monday. And I would.
