Stella's Place 
Well, Washington State is on fire again. I have one going about 12 miles north of me. Lots of evacuations, buildings lost, and it even jumped the river. I hope this picture shows up. Crud, can’t post the picture. Here is a link to the local news station. They have photos.

Not yet Col. It started right along the highway so it could have been an idiot with a cigarette butt. It also could have been harvest equipment. As dry as it is here now, it could have been a piece of glass refracting the sun.

Oh yea, I am ready. Had only 10 minutes to get out a few years ago. I left with me, the dog, and a duffle bag. (the duffle bag was already packed.) I now load my camper shell up in June with all my camping gear. spare clothes, pet supplies, first aid kits, bottled water, and anything else I can think of. I built a bed over one of the wheel wells with storage underneath. I have everything I need to set up a pretty darn good camp if the house is gone.

I’m so sorry. I hate that anyone lost homes in the fire, but it’s got to be especially difficult when it’s those near and dear to you.

Just saw the son of one of the families who lost everything. He is mentally challenged, but works at our local convenience stores. Poor little guy broke down in tears when he saw me. I held him for awhile and told him we would all work together to bring his home back.

He sounds like a precious person. I hope his family can find a new residence quickly and regain a sense of security. It sounds like you live in a close knit community and that is invaluable.

Just got back from our small town of Davenport. The local hardware/ feed store is taking in donations. I dropped off dog food, cat food, blankets, toiletries, feminine hygiene products, protein bars, soap and anti bacterial wipes. We are holding off on clothing until we get sex and sizes. At least ten homes are gone on our side of the river and unsure how many on the other side. Last estimate is 9,000 acres. Still zero percent contained. Finally got some air support about an hour ago. Some missing livestock have been found and taken to safe places. The Red Cross is set up at our local Fairgrounds. Several coffee shops in down are offering free coffee to first responders and evacuees.

Top lawyer John Jones QC, known for representing WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, has died.
“With immense sadness we share the tragic news of the death of John Jones QC,” said a statement from his legal firm, Doughty Street Chambers, where he was the head of its international criminal law team. It did not provide any details on the nature or location of his death.
Jones specialized in war crimes, counter-terrorism and extradition and defended a number of high-profile suspects in war crimes covering the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda and Sierra Leone, among others. He was representing the son of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, Saif.

Which begs the question was the interloper a very skilled person on a mission given that he was able to escape security and leave without a trace, or was Barney Fife on duty and the interloper was just a garden variety Otis from Mayberry who managed to give security the slip by being the one to miss the banana peel in the pursuit.

You are implying the intruder was either Jason Bourne or the paperboy. Julian Assange is not high on my attention meter. Is something going to happen if they don’t shut him up, or are a number of other people actually more important than Assange to Wikileaks?

Just found out a dear friend lost her house in the fire. It is now up to 5,00 acres and threatening a small town on the Indian Reservation on the other side of the river.

I think she is ok. They had a lot of livestock. I hope they could save some of them. They are like family to her and her husband. I don’t think Obama could even find us with a map and a guide.

We have the lake and pumps, we’re also cutting back away from the house to make anything other than a grass fire reaching us harder to happen. At the first sign of a fire coming we’re prepared to flood ground on the fire side, do a back burn around the house to kep the grass fire as far out as possible, bury the propane tank and pray like mad.
The roof’s steel and the walks are concrete so if we can keep any fire well away we should be able to minimize damages. One neighbor bought a water cannon off of a scrapped cargo ship and runs its pump off of a diesel truck engine, he can toss a respectable stream 50 yards.

I have a pretty good perimeter of my own. I also have my pick up with a canopy fully stocked with everything I would need to rough it if my house is gone. The problem in this area is the high winds we get. I had to evacuate a couple of years ago. The wind was blowing 60MPH. Hard to slow that down.

Yeah, I remember the winds out west. Predominant winds here are from the west sonwe have our primary barrier there. It’s a crap shoot, best battle plan gies south at first contact, but ya feel good at least making a plan.

Yup, most of my barrier is west and south of the buildings. I try to keep the lawn as green as I can with the dry season we have here.

Ours turns brown overvwinter. We trim it close when it browns and I can burn it whenever the need be, I actually do burn it just about a few weeks before it’s scheduled to come out of hibernation.
Just one of the things you have to deal with living outside the city limits but we had a helluva fire problem in NOLA during the Katrina aftermath that no one talks about.

The fire is up to 5,000 acres and still growing. There are going to be a lot of people homeless tonight. We are going to start organizing to see what we can do to help them.

Lost a bunch of homes and summer rentals. One entire area called Cayuse Cove was destroyed. Probably 6-8 homes. Some of the people had to evacuate by boat. The access road was blocked by a 20 foot wall of fire.
The small town of Wellpinit, on the north side of the river got hit pretty hard. Not sure of the house count, but think it is quite a few.
Hearing of livestock and pets either dead or missing.
The fire is still burning and at one time was threatening to jump the river again back into Lincoln Count except further east.
Quite a few power outages on both sides of the river.
If you scroll this map to the north you will see Teel Hill Rd and Hart Rd. Where the two intersect all the way to the river north and east was affected.

It’s embarrassing to be associated with a blog that used to have really intelligent and polite people commenting (mostly) that now has a bunch of yahoos. It’s also sad.

I have a question about posts like the one in the Wool Coat thread where a poster mentions that Gaddafi’s fate awaits Hillary. I know back before I quit reading she often posted similar things.
Why not just boot her?
Maybe I shouldn’t ask because that is a “backroom” decision. But IMO she endangers not Hillary but the TreeHouse. WP is independent privately owned company, I don’t know anything about WP politics but it seems to me that a quite a few of posters now can be considered to be posting threats of violence, or at least condoning violence against politicians. The TH is responsible for its commentators posts, I’m sure there a a few zealots simply trying to get the TH shutdown because they disagree with the political views of the TH and posts like that give them ammunition.

You know, I have been noticing that more and more. I was on a recipe site the other day and they were arguing about the recipe was wrong and that is not how you make it. What the heck? I will make a recipe any way I want. They were actually getting nasty about it. Crazy.

Fire update. The beast is laying down pretty good right now. We have air support and it is really making a difference. They just stopped the fie from reaching some beautiful homes along the river. It is supposed to be 50% tonight with 45% humidity. That should help keep it down quite a bit.
