i am a little church(no great cathedral)
far from the splendor and squalor of hurrying cities
-i do not worry if briefer days grow briefest,
i am not sorry when sun and rain make april
my life is the life of the reaper and the sower;
my prayers are prayers of earth’s own clumsily striving
(finding and losing and laughing and crying)children
whose any sadness or joy is my grief or my gladness
around me surges a miracle of unceasing
birth and glory and death and resurrection:
over my sleeping self float flaming symbols
of hope, and i wake to a perfect patience of mountains
i am a little church(far from the frantic
world with its rapture and anguish)at peace with nature
-i do not worry if longer nights grow longest;
i am not sorry when silence becomes singing
winter by spring,i lift my diminutive spire to
merciful Him Whose only now is forever:
standing erect in the deathless truth of His presence
(welcoming humbly His light and proudly His darkness)

Watching a piece on CBS tonite about the CIA. Thing that came to mind as they talked modern terrorism (codeword for Islamic terrorism) was the length an breadth of it. The special sort of started by talking about it with the first WTC bombings (I remember mentioning the first WTC bombing over at the CTH and someone flaming me back telling me I was crazy, 911 was the first) but if you want to look at it as such they started with us in the Phillipines before WWI, and poked us at various levels right up to 911.
Anywho, I immediately thought of the apologists who endlessly tell us it’s not Islamic terrorism, it’s terrorism by thugs who’ve hijacked the good name of Islam as a cover. Yaaaawwwwwnnnnnnn.
OK, hmmmmmm…..does that mean the US PC folks are wrong in condemning Nazism as a world view? Were the people who indiscriminately murdered millions of Jews, Gypsies, gays, Slavs and others just thugs hijacking the good name of the Nazi party? We were told that Nazis ran rampant through Europe murdering left and right just like we see Islamic forces doing now but … wait…the former were all Nazis while the latter are pretenders? I’m confused here.

Yes, the problem is these little mini whatever-you-want-to-call-thems are running around our world leaving chaos and destruction in their wake. Personally I call them tools of Satan, but not everyone would. It makes it very difficult to discuss these things because people just don’t view the world from the same perspective. If one believes in a Creator, especially the Christian God, the perspective and potential understanding (although we cannot ultimately understand it all) is completely different than the views another might have. From a Christian perspective, God told us this would go on in the world until some time when it wouldn’t anymore. To others, that is nonsense, even though they see the wrongs and evils. That almost has us living in different universes, in a sense.

Do you know there is such a lovely creation as …………
Glazed Bacon Recipe – Maple Bourbon
http://wonkywonderful.com/glazed-bacon-recipe-maple-bourbon/
1/2 lb Bacon
2 Tb Brown Sugar
2 Tb Maple Syrup
2 tsp Bourbon Whiskey
Preheat oven to 350°
Cut bacon strips in half. (optional) Mix together the brown sugar, maple syrup and whiskey.
Transfer bacon strips to the glaze bowl and toss until evenly coated with bacon.
Line a baking sheet with foil and place a rack on top.
Lay bacon on the rack in a flat even layer.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until crispy. Watch closely the last 5 minutes because the bacon will burn quickly.
Cool for 5 minutes before serving.

The first big meal I ever cooked started out as a dinner party for four and ended up Thanksgiving dinner for 25! I was nineteen at the time and had never done solo Thanksgiving before. The moron who conned me into the deal called me at work at 10PM the night before and asked if it matter that the 32LB turkey was frozen! I left work, banged on my buddies dorm room door and we headed out.
We had a couple of bottles of Rose’ wine that I was going to marinate the fruit in. After spending two hours in cold water thawing the turkey, there was not much wine left for the fruit. I pulled it off, I think, but I sure don’t remember a lot of it.

Menagerie, you absolutely crack me up!
And I have a question I’ve been meaning to ask you (since you attend the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul): did Peter and Paul know each other? Did they preach together in Rome? I would think that Paul, as a post-Resurrection apostle, would have sought out any of the original apostles who knew Jesus, to hear the stories first hand.
LikeLiked by 3 people
I’m no expert, but according to Wikipedia they both died in Rome about the same time. Makes sense that they knew one another.
LikeLiked by 4 people
Tundra, yes, they did meet. The most memorable account, at least in my way of thinking, is when the passionate and intense Paul confronted Peter over the matter of circumcision. Here’s a link for you, but read it in Galatians too.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incident_at_Antioch
We Catholics see this as, of course, one more Biblical evidence for the recognized leadership of Peter in the infancy of the Church. St. Paul, an apostle chosen directly by our Lord, surely as we see in his writings a man to be reckoned with, one who establishes many churches in far flung locations, a man never afraid of controversy, never unable to make a decision, takes this matter to Peter and the other leaders of the Church. The matter was resolved by Peter’s speech.
Three years after Paul’s conversion he had spent time with Peter and James.
While Peter and Paul both died in Rome, I do not know of them preaching there together.

Moving right along…the lower-level supervisors were as you said, although they all worked hard. They were mind-melded to the system, whereas he came from the private sector after 30+ years. What a total shock that was. My husband could never do the social interaction, political office stuff. He was the brainy researcher type. So he would go and tell them “you guys are missing something here.” Or he would say “the Chinese are going to outdo us on this” and they were working on some pretty big stuff, but not weapons or military type things. He was the “inconvenient” irritant, so they just squashed him down and sort of sidelined him. He got to do the research he wanted to do anyway, but they never listened to anything he said.

Years ago, I was very fortunate to be able to travel through Germany. Out in the country, there is a church: Pilgrimage Church of the Scourged Savior. I had never seen anything like this in my life.
http://www.bavaria.by/pilgrimage-church-of-wies-at-pfaffenwinkel-unesco-bavaria
The tourist ads call it The Wies Church (I don’t think they want to say the “Scourged Savior” part.)
I’m frustrated because I wanted to show some pics. I never learned to do it from the web and don’t feel like the learning curve right now. But if it interests, look for images with the church name.
The ceiling is flat, painted with the technique that you are standing under a huge dome. The whole church is in the Bavarian rococo style. Stunning! I arrived during a Mass. Poor Mass attendees — there are tourists milling around in their background. My mouth literally hung open as I wandered through that place after Mass. I didn’t even know the ceiling was flat until we left the building and I was reading material I had bought.

I was at the mall yesterday and two young men probably both in their late teens were daring each other to use the women’s bathroom. They were for all appearances on the surface just being goofy teenagers who thought it would be funny.
I said “Guys, come on what would you do if your mom or girlfriend was in there and some 6 foot guy walked in? What if they texted you and said that there was a guy in the bathroom? Don’t create problems for yourselves.”
They chuckled, said they were sorry and that they were just joking and went in the men’s bathroom. And that is going to be one of the problems, not only perverts using bathrooms as stalking grounds, but good kids just being silly and it ending badly when something goes awry.

She handed us a lock and a key and directed us to the dog runs. They were in a beautiful shaded grove, with food and water bowls. Our dog loved it. She got to stretch her legs and was nice and cool on a hot day. They also told us to pick out and address as many post cards as we would like and they would stamp and mail them for us.

I have relatives (who shall remain nameless) who voted at this convention, and supported Cruz. I pointed out the futility of this position to them, but they cling to some hope that their Christian standard bearer can still prevail.

This is not a big surprise. I get E-Mail and snail mail from the WA GOP and they have been very clear that they will not support Trump. I’ve met some of these people in the past. Even before my current level of political understanding, I could tell they are not people I would want to know on a personal level. Smarmy.

Yup, I am here in Eastrn Washington and it kind of scares me the number of Cruzbots in this small town. Nice to know who they are in case the SH** hits the fan. I need to know who I can count on and who I have to worry about.

I was talking to my wife about moving away from the city at one time. She pointed out a bit of history that may not be well known in the West. The people first to be drug into the streets during the revolutions were in the villages. The cities were the last places. As far as who you need to worry about, that would be everyone.

I am with you there. I am about nine miles from the nearest small town, with a really good view 360 degrees around the seven acres. The people in the cities will be waiting for the government to help them. They are easy to control. The villages and rural areas were the free thinkers and independent people. The city dwellers were more likely to disagree with the revolutionaries. The same holds true today.

My cousin and her husband are nice people who live north of Vancouver. They are very religious, and have ten children. My
niececousin has become very confrontational about this subject. Her husband is more reasonable, and has stated on Facebook that he will vote for Trump if he is the nominee. The husband is a bright guy who works IT for a bank; he once wrote a book about database design.LikeLiked by 2 people

I have nothing against Christians, I’m sure you know that, but I won’t get into arguments about politics in which the discussion is about which man is the more authentic Christian.

Like I have said since the beginning. We are not elected a Pastor in Chief. The last thing I want is a strange religious zealot as President. The President needs to serve all Americans.

I’ve only done that when they start in on how many times Trump has been married and kindly point out how Cruz’ parents both had been divorced and are divorced now and they can’t call them great Christians and what a great Christian upbringing Cruz had while saying Trump can’t be a Christian. If they push the issue then I bring up lying, which in their mind is crazy talk, because Cruz has never lied.

Obama weighs selling U.S. arms to Hanoi in bitter irony for Vietnam veterans
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/may/22/obama-weighs-selling-us-arms-to-hanoi-in-bitter-ir/
In a move that is raising concerns among some Vietnam War veterans, President Obama will discuss selling more U.S. arms to Hanoi during his visit to Vietnam that began Sunday night.
Top White House advisers said Mr. Obama hasn’t made a decision whether to lift the partial U.S. embargo on sending military equipment to Vietnam, where more than 58,200 U.S. soldiers were killed before the fall of Saigon in 1975. But the administration sees advantages in easing the embargo, both as a warning to expansionist China and as leverage to compel the communist regime in Hanoi to improve its record on human rights.
“We are thinking through how our evolving security cooperation [is] going to look moving forward,” said White House Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes. “They regularly raise this issue with us. We are looking at, of course, how our broader relationship is evolving, including our continued commitment to support human rights in Vietnam.” ….
Well, Ben Rhodes is right on it, so we have nothing to worry about. /s

How any rational being can believe that Obama wants to do anything other than destroy America is beyond me. People are delusional.
