Failing tea, some really strong coffee (with half and half) will do. But neither of them before bedtime!

No, no, no Mary. I cannot let you near my coffee with that white stuff. I’ll have to find you some tea made out of flowers or something else decaf.
Or how about a chocolate vodka milkshake? I learned how to make them one looooong night in the hospital from a five ingredient cooking show. Had them almost every night before bed for a couple of weeks. It cured me. 😀

Got me thnking there, how ’bout a coffee ice cream milkshake with Drambuie? Or with Grand Marnier?

Cointreau or Kahlua?
LikeLiked by 2 people
I was tjonkingbthem but they’ve been so overused. In the late 70s there was a coffeehouse in Salt Lake City that found a loophole in the states’s ‘no liquor by the drink’ law by making itself a private club (nominal membership fee) and serving good, but expensive, coffee with a shot of booze in it. Got burned out on Cointreu and Kahlua early on though I keep both for…other uses.

I use both in baking (as well as drinking). I have an awesome recipe for coffee brownies with white chocolate chunks and pecans that incorporate both espresso powder and Kahlua.

They are better than you think. If you can get espresso powder, use that; otherwise, any instant coffee powder will do. This recipe came from an issue of Bon Appetit, and it was originally from a restaurant in Acme or Bellaire, MI (near Traverse City). ADD: You can use a 9×9″ pan if you don’t have a 10″ round.

Some Bailey’s in tea was one of my favorites 🙂

I’d mainline Drambuie or Marnier if the sugar wouldn’t jam the rig, just looking for new and interesting intake vehicles. They all work great on homemade French vanilla ice cream as a topping. That’s homemade as in whole real milk and yard eggs.

I like Grand Marnier heated in a snifter, along with a nice, hot, coffee.

Good quote FTA.
I’m fond of pointing out that all you have to do is spend a little time with grad students at an elite university to understand why Mao sent these people off the rice paddies. They manage to combine wrongheadedness with smug condescension to the point where you want to smash them in the face. I suspect a corollary here is that you can understand the French Revolution by spending a few minutes following American politics. A normal man wants “to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.”

Ooooooo, haven’t heard ‘FTA’ in a long time, took me back to Ft Lewis in the 70s…

It was so bad ar Lewis and Carson that you’d be sitting in the chowhall and about every five minutes some troop would come in and yell “FTA” and the mess would erupt with replies. I knew more than one first sergeant who had a .45 tucked under his shirt, those were bad times.

Absolute twin of ours, right down to the darker-than-head ears and white eyebrows. This is the one that was so starved she was within a few hours of starving to death, all she could do is raise her had as I drove by. I thought she wa dead until I caught her desperate raised head in my rearview. Picked her up, you could clearly see all her bones, put her in the truck and brought her home. We hand-fed her, she was too weak to stand, and used the stock of D5W to rehydrate her. Since then she’s been as loyal and protective of the house and property as she could be, down yo that feral pig, two moccasins and that skunk thing we’re still going through.

I love my cat and my dog. That said, I was not overly thrilled with them this morning. At 3:30AM a mouse wandered into one of the traps I have set. He got caught by the back legs and was scrambling around the house. The dog went nuts, the cat started bellowing. I had to wedge myself (which is a whole lot of self) between the wall and a very heavy piece of furniture. I managed to pull the tiny rodent out and the dog did his very protective act of killing the filthy invader. While I was cleaning up after him, I turned to se both the dog and the cat had gone back to bed. Me, not so much, been up ever since.

Yup, here it’s all three dogs, acappella, at o-dark-30, in full bay and banging against the glass on the French doors as a trio of raccoons does a little Rockettes line-dance on the patio. Mice are cowering in the garage as the outside and inside-outside cats play Rollerball with them.

It was not as bad as the night the cat brought in a live rabbit and turned it loose in the living room. The dog went bananas, chairs tipped over, furniture moved, coffee table cleared off. The cat found a high perch to watch the show and then looked at me as if to say, “dang that was fun wasn’t it?” To which I replied ***hole.

Many years aho, when I lived in Utah, we had an old farmhouse that had a raised, attached kitchen. The windows were ceiling-high so that you could let the top down and vent the cooking heat. That put the sills about six feet off the gound. At night we’d leave a few open for the cross ventilation and so the huge female cat we had could come and go.
Very early one morning we heard some loud chortling coming from our boy’s room and went in to see the cat in the crib with our middle son, then just 18 months old, with a nice fresh gopher she’d killed, brought in thru the kitchen window, and decided to share. Then-wife was less than happy but our son didn’t seem too upset.

Thanks Czar for rescuing the little near death dog. Mine is supposed to be a Beagle, Shiba Inu, mix, at least that is what they told me at the shelter. She is like velcro with me and it breaks her heart every time I walk out the door. Apparently when I go away for the night she paces most of the night away.

My poor dog gets nervous in the car and carsick. I give her Dramamine if I really have to go any distance with her.
When we first had her I brought her to a dog halloween party where all the “rescues” were invited. One of the games the dogs could play was grab a small bit of hotdog out of a very shallow bowl of water. All the other dogs did it. My dog refused. Then they could dig through hay to find a treat, again all the other dogs were having a great time digging in the hay and getting their treats, my dog walked up to the hay sniffed, looked around and peed right on the hay pile 🙄

Sounds a little like mine. She’s not much into play. I take her to a dog park and she walks around a little and finds pee spots and rolls in them. Then she goes somewhere and poops and comes back and sits by me. Definitely no reason to go.

We took my old dog (beagle/? mix) along with my daughter’s dog (border collie) to the dog beach when we were in Chicago. Their dog loved to swim, and would fetch a tennis ball or a frisbee for hours. My dog rolled on a dead fish.

Sure it’s a dog and not a cat in a costume? That said, my twin of yours gets carsick too, I have to put a cover over the entire back seat in the truck or get the steam cleaner out. She isn’t too keen on getting in the car but if told to she’ll enter like she’s at gunpoint.

She could be a cat in a dog suit, she isn’t very friendly and only likes to cuddle with me, my daughter, my mom and one friend, otherwise she will be aloof and simply ignore you. Poor girl just has “issues” 🙄 If I take her for a walk and a man walks by she will stop walking and lean as far away from the man as possible, stiff as an old rag. *shrugs*

My old dog was very smart, but weird. She understood English very well, and quite vocal (beagle) with me. She mostly ignored other dogs, and most people. The first time she saw my SIL (before they were married), she rolled over on her back and exposed her belly. My SIL swears he is part dog, and he may be.

Smack in the middle of working my posthole digger’s handle broke half in two, sooooooo off to the feed store. I said it as quietly as I could but our border collie heard me and threw herself at the door. She’s at that age where she understands full sentences even without key words.
The feed store doesn’t have snacks or drinks though they do have dog treats and I cautiously selected the treats closest resembling people food. I got onto the car, offered her a ‘treat’ and she cautiously sniffed it. It looked like a Lance, maybe even like a Famous Amos but it smelled like….dog biscuit. She took it but held it in her mouth for a good five minutes before she spit it out on the floor. Dog sulk is still going on – other two ate the biscuits and went back to sleep – so we’ll wait a bit, put some gravy or peanut butter on it, she’ll eat it and we each will think we won. Yeah, minds meld after a few years.

Definitely. Their BC would steal my dog’s toys and hide them in her crate. She could also reach surprising far onto the kitchen counter for a dog of her apparent height. Another thing she would do (at my house) was to sneak up next to me on the sofa to tick off my dogs (both the old one and the new one).

Just today, we’d set out a sandwich on the long counter for lunch, and when we came back itvwas gone. She’d moved a chair about two feet and used it to get up high enough to grab the sandwich. She doesn’t swipe food regularly, quite rarely in fact, just when she feels she really deserves it. When she does she’s so ingenious about it that you can’t stay mad – and she knows that too.

And my dog jumps just like that first jump, kind of a hop straight in the air on all four legs, instead of the front legs followed by the back.
That dog is a little genius.
I can’t leave food on the counter or table. I have to remember to close the pantry door or she’ll eat what ever she can get open. Once she ate a whole bag of Hershey’s Kisses, opened the foil on everyone and just ate the chocolate (sick as a dog afterward), my house looked like a tinfoil confetti factory exploded inside of it.

And that dog was pulling chicken nuggets out of a hot toaster oven. Probably why it took one at a time. My dog (the beagle mix) also ate a whole dish of Hersey’s kisses once, but she ate the foil too. It’s a good thing it wasn’t dark chocolate.

Have been reading (again) bits and pieces of the Outlander series book, “Dragonfly In Amber” (basis for season 2 on Starz). The author describes in detail the sewage running down the gutters of the High Street in Edinburgh, and the chamber pots being emptied out the windows.
LikeLiked by 2 people
The writers of the Outlander video adaption are lazy. I watched up to the current season on Amazon, but I had to go find where my eyes had rolled to after about the second heavy panting episode. The Mrs. would never have sat through the first gratuitous scene. We would be watching something else, never knowing what happened in the story afterwards.
There is a Russian Sci-Fi movie about scientist from earth going to another planet that is in what looks like the medieval times of European history. The storyline is that the scientists have placed themselves in positions of Gods and now rule the various kingdoms. We never finished the film. The director or writer focused on accuracy of the time period. It was so dirty with animals and people crapping everywhere, the peasants were so stupid and cruelty to everyone and everything for entertainment. The never ending visuals in the background were such that we couldn’t pay attention to the story.
LikeLiked by 1 person
The sex scenes are in the books, and they are mostly between married people, although I’ll admit that seeing it on screen isn’t the same as reading it. I would prefer that the scenes be dialed back, for sure.
The new season follows the story (sort of), although scenes are added, compressed, and the order of events is changed to adapt to the needs of television. I particularly like their set and costume designs.
I agree that too much realism can ruin a story line, especially on film.
I have read a lot of books, and one particular thing stands out for me above everything else – a vivid description of what Vlad the Impaler did to his victims. Yuck.

I’ve been on a new kick and off my movie kick and have been watching renovation shows. Hubby doesn’t like my new kick because it’s been inspiring me to want new looks. So, I decided I needed an accent wall and decided upon the half wall separating my kitchen and dining room, that meant painting and making him help with putting up new trim. Now I want to redo my bedroom and bathroom and brighten them up, he’s really not happy. All I keep hearing is 4 years ago you made me hang wallpaper in the kitchen, dining room and bathroom and now you removed all that hard work in the kitchen and dining room(not true, just one wall and a half wall at that) and now you’re going to do it in the bathroom too and what is wrong with the bedroom walls?
Wait until he finds out I want to redo the kitchen cabinets. 🙂
I’d really like to paint the outside of the house as well, but I don’t think I’m going to be able to convince him on that, so I’ll save it until next spring and just work on the inside this year.

I always liked LI and it was on my list of daily reads before this election, but Professor Jacobson went so Anti-Trump, I took it off my list, only now and again checking to see if sanity had returned. I had hoped after a day of dealing with his loss that he would return to sanity, so I looked through the page and nope he’s still leading the charge, although at least he’s not actively promoting Hillary. The good thing is at least some of his authors have some sense.

William Jacobson
My overwhelming feeling at the nomination of Trump is one of loss.
Loss of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity truly to change the trajectory of government and entrenched political power. Loss of conservative and conservative media self-respect. Possible loss of years of hard work by thousands of conservative activists who have changed the nation, even if they did not change D.C. Loss of friendships with people I used to respect, but no longer do because they helped perpetrate and project false information and conspiracy theories for Trump.
As for where this goes, I’m not sure where I will go and where I fit in. I’m not as reactive as you might think.
We are faced with a truly horrible choice. I abhor both Donald and Hillary. You’ve read my views for months in the case of Donald, and years in the case of Hillary. They are flip sides of the same coin. The question is which one is more dangerous and will do more damage to the nation and our individual liberties, and advance the march of government power over our lives.
Under no circumstances would I actively support Hillary. The question is whether I actively support Trump, or sit it out and just observe.
I don’t know what I will do, or what we will do as a website. That will change, but right now, I’m still thinking things through.

My only issue has been and still is immigration, if we don’t fix that by enforcing laws currently on the books, then we have no country. So for me we have one last chance to save the country. We’re in a life boat trying to catch a rope at this point.

Self delusion is a difficult bin to see out of. The people who think folks like Cruz and Ryan will put the best interests of the USA ahead of their own greed and ambitions still believe that their words mean something other than they want to remain in power and enjoy the perks of that power. The cost to liberty, to America, to our sovereignty is irrelevant to the GOP.

My DH asked him what exactly wasn’t conservative about stopping illegal immigration and enforcing our immigration laws and stopping Muslims from coming in who want to kill us and putting Americans first by having trade deals that benefit us and keep jobs in this country?
The guy’s reply was it isn’t conservative to hurt business and businesses will be hurt by not having cheap labor.
My DH told him that was bs and if that is conservative then conservatives are traitors and can kiss his a$$.

I think more and more people will express disillusionment regarding “conservative” hero viewpoints. Since the definition of the made up word “conservative” can differ between people, the accusations of heresy are bound to become more frequent.
It’s too bad people seem unable to look at things from the aspect of what steps are necessary to realistically achieve a specific outcome. The ability to reason in that way is exactly what the progressive/socialist/left has worked to destroy for the last 250+ years.

You know before this election cycle I thought I knew what conservative meant, I no longer think I know what it means. From what I have seen from those who claim to be the most conservative, I don’t think I want to be a conservative.
I’ve always had strong opinions and felt strongly about certain things, but today a lot of those things don’t really matter in the greater scheme of things. I do not want my grandson growing up in a third world country, so that’s honestly the only thing I care about now. If that gets stopped, then I can go back to worrying about all the other problems that need to be solved and that I have strong opinions about.

Siblings of Victoria Sharp (18 year old young woman who was in the car with LaVoy Finicum and Ammon Bundy) have been removed from their mother’s custody after fleeing to a sheriffs station with allegations of abuse.
No comment from me as there is not enough information to know what is really going on.
Children fled with Kansas mom’s guns while she showered, testimony says
http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article75711232.html#storylink=cpy
Last Friday, as soon as their mother climbed in the shower, five Sharp children bolted down the driveway of their Auburn, Kan., home.
As they left, according to testimony in a Wednesday hearing, they took the guns out of a cubbyhole in the house and stashed them at the end of the drive. Then they got a ride from a neighbor to the Shawnee County sheriff’s office in Topeka.

You never know. Since it was five children together, it sounds to me like there might be some substance there.
I have a friend whose parents would lock her and her three older siblings in the attic when they went to work on days when school wasn’t in session. No bathroom facilities, water, or food. She was five years old when their brother broke through the dry wall, and they escaped. They hid out in a local movie theater until discovered, after the papers picked up the story that they were missing. Her father went to prison, but the kids were returned to their parents a couple of years later.

From the article it sounds like there could be some substance to the allegations but this whole thing has been so shady and influenced by the PTB that I’m hesitant to have an opinion just yet. The mom does not give me a good feeling but that is purely an emotional reaction to her based on nothing other than my perception.
LikeLiked by 3 people
When kids are desperate enough to actually try to escape, there is plenty of reason to investigate, in my opinion, especially since it isn’t just one of them. There is plenty of heavy-handed interference in families these days by government busy bodies – no doubt about that.

I agree. There is likely something there, if indeed everything happened as it is being reported. Children being so fearful of their mom the they remove her access to guns are children who live a life on eggshells.

Not a case of poorly civilized member of what seems to be a violence prone group, but another case of a gun shooting yet another victim while in the hand of a young, black male.
Second story was a 17 year old black male who was shot by an unknown assailant while he was standing on a canal bank at 3 AM. No questions about what this 17 year old was doing out at 3 AM on a school night, just wringing of hands and tearing of clothes over GUUNNNNNN VIOLLLLEEENNNNCCCCEEEEEEDE.

Our friend, Jack Cashill.
Of course I’ll vote for Trump
http://mobile.wnd.com/2016/05/of-course-ill-vote-for-trump/
Hell, in 2008 I voted for John McCain, and just four years earlier he had flirted openly with running for vice-president on John Kerry’s ticket.
In 2012, I voted for Mitt Romney. He not only killed dogs, but he also spawned the embryonic Obamacare.
In 1996, I voted for Bob Dole, and neither he nor I had the slightest clue as to why he was running for president.
So I will vote for Donald Trump for president. I will not do so enthusiastically, but the last time I voted enthusiastically for president was 1984.
I vote for Republicans not because they are wonderful people with great ideas but because they stand – sometimes firmly, sometimes not – in the way of the progressive tide. How firmly Trump stands remains to be seen, but at least he will muddy the water….
There will be no “Sister Souljah” moment on Hillary’s campaign trail this year. The BLM movement and its deranged allies own the party.
Those allies come wholesale, each cluster with its own acronym and agenda. They include the BDS gang, the LGBT crowd, the OWS crazies, the closet jihadists of CAIR, the bought and paid for NEA, and old reliables like the NAACP, NARAL and the AFL-CIO….
This past weekend, I served as a delegate to the convention for the 5th District, Missouri. I knew many of the Cruz delegates, perhaps most.
I knew none of the Trump people. For all the Donald’s imperfections – I don’t need to be reminded – he has brought people to the Republican Party who have never voted before, let alone voted Republican.
The Republican turnout in Missouri was 50 percent higher on primary day than was the Democratic turnout, and Missouri has historically been a swing state.
On June 10 of last year, a week before Trump declared, I opened a WND column with the sentence, “The Republican nominee for president will be that candidate who best learns there is no future in apologizing.”
I suspect I was right. Voters were looking for a candidate with cojones. Trump is not the candidate we purists were hoping would emerge, but he is one who did.
He will not kill the Republican Party. Only we can.

There are a lot of variables. First of all, the Republican vote was split more ways than the Dem vote in every state. Second, a lot of Bernie voters will vote for Trump, and there is a lot of Dem crossover voting (like Reagan in 1980). Third, Trump will dominate her. He’s right – she doesn’t have the stamina to campaign full out, and unless she is controlling the venue, the questions etc, she doesn’t do very well.

Yes, those variables would make it very hard to compare. I guess, as usual, the Hillerettes are just trying to confuse the issue.

Okay, I’ve got it. The total votes for Republicans (Trump, Cruz, Rubio, and Kasich only) are 25,124,935. The total votes for Democrats are 21,731,367. That is after the Indiana primary.
You can check the popular vote for both parties (variables available at the top of the chart – popular vote/delegates etc).

Okay. This is the number of total votes Trump got – 10,644,396. This is the number of total votes Clinton got – 12,432,259. So, of course, the Dems can say she got more. They are just ignoring all the variables, especially the fact that there were so many candidates on the Rep side.
