Good Friday never broke my heart before. This year it did. I was ready for it in ways I’ve never been before. Six months of RCIA classes. Menagerie’s wonderful posts. Mary’s wonderful artwork. I sat in the dark bare church tonight after venerating the cross, and tears rolled down my cheeks. My heart broke for Christ in a way it never had. Pain and sorrow. Michelangelo’s statue captures it. I could gaze at the photo all night as I await the Lord’s resurrection.

Your post is a heartbreaking summation of my journey too Tundra. This. This is what my faith means to me, and I have come to understand that without the liturgical nature of the Church, through the liturgies themselves, and through the great liturgical seasons of the Church, my soul would have been lost, unguided, no map to follow on this wonderful journey of spirituality and faith formation.
Here is another gem posted by my priest this morning. I think it sums up wonderfully the journey for us.

Menagerie, you have helped so much in my journey to becoming Catholic, a journey which has stretched back over the past two years. I so wish that journey were culminating this evening in my confirmation at Easter vigil, but alas, the Lord has a further teaching of patience for me and I must wait a while longer–hopefully only a few weeks as the Church processes paperwork. I long for that confirmation with all my being, to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, and the Eucharist. I long for that wholeness, that completion in Christ, that oneness with His heart, that folding into His spirit. And so I spend this Longest Day as we await His resurrection tonight holding patience and love and anticipation in my heart. My deepest thanks to all here who have contributed in so many ways large and small to this wonderful journey.

Remember to offer up your yearnings, perhaps for those who will be entering the Church tonight, and you, as well as they, will benefit from your sacrifice. Always my prayers are with you. The longings you speak of will be satisfied, more than satisfied, when you receive the Sacraments.
I will also pray that all who seek to enter relationship with Jesus, in whatever way, will have your depth of longing for him.
If you haven’t already, I suggest the practice of praying the Divine Mercy chaplet. It takes about 7 minutes, and Divine Mercy Sunday is next weekend. Read a little of St. Faustina’s story and lose yourself even further in His love.
Happy Easter to you and yours Tundra.

Tundra, you are welcome. Thank you for all you have given in return. I have enjoyed our conversations on faith and many other things. And over a year ago your comments helped me to kickstart a weight loss and exercise program that have been very important to me.
Mary contributions, from art to kitties, comments, and cartoon, not to mention her repartee with ole’ Frankie are treasures. Few sites get the quality of comments we are blessed with because of the people who contribute.

Without folks like stella and Menagerie, who do so much [there are others!!] there wouldn’t be places like this where we can share our hearts and concerns–in safety and in companionship. Where we can uphold one another and pray for one another and remember the good that has gone before.
And walk side by side towards the future–unknown to us, but not to God.

Yesterday I stumbled across an article saying that in ancient times March 25 was held to be the date of both the Annunciation, and therefore the conception, of Jesus, and the date of the Crucifixion, a completed circle. It was a fascinating article.

Because men need a good laugh as well. Brought to you via Ted Nugent.
Top ten reasons men prefer guns over women-
#10 – You can trade an old 44 for a new 22.
#9 – You can keep one gun at home and have another for when you’re on the road.
#8 – If you admire a friend’s gun and tell him so, he will probably let you try it out a few times.
#7 – Your primary gun doesn’t mind if you keep another gun for a backup.
#6 – Your gun will stay with you even if you run out of ammo.
#5 – A gun doesn’t take up a lot of closet space.
#4 – Guns function normally every day of the month.
#3 – A gun doesn’t ask “Do these new grips make me look fat?”
#2 – A gun doesn’t mind if you go to sleep after you use it.
And the Number One reason
Why Men Prefer Guns over women
#1 – You can buy a silencer for a gun

This is interesting, but I don’t think Cruz is behind the NE story, I just think he knew it was coming. Some of us can walk and chew gum at the same time and are also aware of the Bush team now working on his team and we’re also fully aware of the dirty tricks he’s playing in Louisiana, Georgia and Missouri. We also were fortunate to have grown up when they didn’t teach Common Core math and can see the percentage of remaining delegates he needs to get to the magic number and it’s almost impossible for him to do.

I’m starting to see some commenting across the net that they don’t see Cruz as the type, because he’s married to policy, politics, his faith, etc. and some who can’t see it because he has no charm or is nerdy.
Maybe being raised in Church has shown me those who preach the loudest tend to always disappoint you or maybe it’s because I’ve seen some men and women over my lifetime that my jaw dropped when I found out they had multiple affairs, who just didn’t seem the type to be able to pick up multiple “dates”. But, all the reasons I see as for people not believing it are the reasons why I can believe it.
I did read one comment today though that me laugh by a Cruz supporter, “Ted has denied this and I’m going to believe him, but if it comes to pass he has lied, he has lost all support from me, because the one thing I don’t tolerate is being lied to.”
For obvious reasons that cracks me up.

Cruz’s outrage expressed at “The Don” looked like a bad audition, with Cruz modulating his voice at will, and the phony line about “going after” Cruz’s children was just ridiculous.
Do they have the National Enquirer sitting on the Cruz family reading table?
Cruz is a fraud and a lousy actor.

I spend enough time dealing with ladder climbing, backstabbing, rat bastards (look Ted, no confusion) that I have no desire to watch Heidi Cruz and Megyn Kelly snicker to each other while they THINK they’ve humiliated Melania Trump.
In Europe, that type of behavior is daily life, not just on TV or at the country club tennis court. Melania wouldn’t knowingly put herself in a situation that would cause a loss of face for herself or family.

Me too. The police report is very redacted but the author of the Spectator article seems to know what he is talking about so I would wager it is likely Heidi and Ted had a spat. The picture of Amanda and Ted sporting the same temporary tattoo and him being without his jacket while she is wearing a mens jacket the same day, ( a Tuesday ) no less is very curious. And just how the heck would Amanda know what kind of mood Cruz was in at 5:30 am ? Little stuff like that looks very, very bad for Ted.

Would love to hear more, Menagerie, if you feel like sharing. Our vigil lasted over two hours. We did five of the seven readings. Two people from my RCIA class were confirmed. I did as you suggested and dedicated my yearnings to them, and am very happy for them. Both were radiant in their joy. This was my first Easter vigil. I had no idea it would be so long. The church was beautiful, all decorated again, and music and incense and Easter lillies everywhere. I’m so glad I was there.

Tundra, it was breathtakingly beautiful. We started outside the church on the rectory property where there was a large fire. Everything was peaceful and we waited for 8, when the service was to start. A very warm evening, pleasant and still. After the opening greeting and prayers, when. It was time for the priest to light the Easter candle, and from that all the other candles, a sudden fairly strong wind blew up, and it was very hard for them to light all the candles. It took a lot of effort. After they were lit, the wind was gone. Of course the priest remarked that Satan hated the service! It did seem strange, I admit, and even I don’t see Satan behind every ill wind.
We processed in, with all the catechumens and sponsors behind priests, deacons, and altar servers, then all the faithful. I will try to post some pics on my Easter thread, but you should check out the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Chattanooga on Facebook. Later I’m sure there will be wonderful pictures.
The church was utterly dark, and we entered with our candles, lighting them from the Easter candle, the light of Christ spreading through the church slowly, surely. My heart was bursting. It was a story of Christ’s love and light, portrayed simply through a procession and light.
We had seven readings, the epistle, and the resurrection from Luke. Basically, the story of God and his love for us was completely portrayed in those readings and psalms. It amazed me how the Church was able to put together a liturgy that literally took us through our salvific history, but of course, that’s exactly what the Church does.
I’m sure the rest was just exactly the same as your service. We had 15 people baptized, and I think close to that many who made professions of faith, having already been baptized. Then they were all confirmed, and received First Communion.
It was a long night, but the experience was not something easily described. In faith, we know that heaven breaks open, that angels carry the Sacrifice to the throne during mass. During a mass such as the vigil, it was an experience you could feel.
After experiencing the emptiness of the sanctuary from Holy Thursday, during Good Friday, and while we rehearsed prior to mass on Saturday, at the moment of consecration I felt Jesus come back. He filled the Church, and the hearts of those who opened them. It was profound.
When you receive the sacraments frequently, you will come to feel that Presence, and it’s loss on Good Friday. But remember, those are very special moments, and treasure them, but real life comes with exercising your faith when you don’t feel it. Poor Mother Teresa felt a dark barrenness in her soul right until death. In some souls God works through sacrifice and darkness, showing them the sufferings of those they serve.
Faith is tenaciously doing what is right, our duties and responsibilities even in darkness or just plain old lack of that feeling within us. Growth comes more from daily faithfulness.
I know that you will soon experience the sanctifying grace of the Sacraments. I am especially keeping you and your husband, your faith community, priest and deacon, in prayer, indeed I remembered last night while in the communion line.
Happy Easter Tundra. Try to take a look at our beautiful basilica on Facebook. It might take a day or so, but they took a gazillion pics last night.

Thank you, Menagerie. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Our church is much smaller than yours; probably 200 families total. We had 4 catecumens in my class and 1 apparently dropped out, just stopped coming and it was never mentioned. We also started outside with the fire (most welcome, it was 20 degrees) and processed in with candles lit from the Paschal candle. The church was otherwise dark for the first hour, we needed the candles to read along in the Missalette. You describe beautifully that transition from emptiness to fullness with the consecration. I could feel His presence, and it seemed my heart could burst from the fullness.
Thank you for your prayers. They mean the world to me. Happy and Blessed Easter to you and yours.

Just got the word – latest two great grandkids are girls, due in late July. GGS will learn how tough life really is when he has to deal with three women in a two bathroom house.

We lived in an old farm house with one bathroom until my oldest was 15 and my youngest 9. I survived with us 2 girls and 3 boys who thought it was the reading room.
I was kind of accustomed though because I grew up with 4 brothers and 2 sisters in a one bathroom house.

My youn’uns grew up outside and when we’d visit their grandma in town they didn’t understand why if someone was in the bathroom they couldn’t just go outside. lol
My youngest embarrassed me once when he was around 3 or 4, he had went into a convenience store with his dad and I had stayed in the car.
I could see his dad at the register and I watched him decide to run outside, then I watched him stop and pee right in front of the window.
I saw his siblings pointing and laughing.
I hunkered down in the seat hoping nobody saw me and knew it was my kid.
It took a long time to convince that kid that he could only do that at home. Then when we finally convinced him, we had stopped on a dirt road when he needed to go because we didn’t have a bottle in the car. (Bottles are a lifesaver on trips with little boys…lol)
We liked to never convinced him that dirt roads were okay and was one other place he could go outside besides at home.

We have this parking lot in the middle of nowhere, just off the interstate, where I meet the grand daughter-in-law to swap out the GGS after a visit. It services an office building so it’s vacat when we, and others, use it to meet. GGS has learned how to use both truck doors to protect his decorum while he pees so when we stopped that big Dr Pepper was just aburnin’ its way through him so he hops out on the field side, opens both doors and proceeds to free the oppressed. Just as he finishes and adjusts a set of blue overheads come on, about 200 feet down the field from him. Appears that some use the area for illegal purposes too and a police unit had a well-hidden unit facing head on and they were getting ready to leave when jr dampened the greenery. They waved as they went by, though I’m sure he didn’t see it as he was hiding undebthe truck’s seat.

Congrats czar. We have one little granddaughter after having only sons. She sure is special. Her two little brothers are special too, but I sure hope we get more girls someday.

Yeah, problem is that fathers/grandfathers then get to worry about those daughters/granddaughters running into boys like they were.

My grandson hunted eggs today in case it’s raining all day tomorrow. We kept clapping for him when he found one and he kept looking at all of us like we’d gone bonkers. He’s out there every evening waiting on his PaPa to go gather eggs, so I think he thought he does this every day, so why the heck are they clapping? 🙂
