New ad by Donald J. Trump.
Greta Van Susteren asked this morning on Facebook:
“Effective or not? This question is not about whether you would vote for / against either Donald Trump or Ted Cruz. This is about whether it makes someone change his or her vote to Trump.”
There are a lot of good answers. What is yours? This was mine:
“In this ad, Cruz comes across as an equivocating Senator, typical of Washington today. Reminds me of John Kerry: “I voted for it before I voted against it”. Trump sounds like the rest of us.“
What’s your response?

I’ll trust what Rep. Steve King and Senator Jeff Sessions say about Cruz and his fight alongside them on immigration any day of the week.
It’s funny to hear Trump talk about immigration because his plan is essentially Rubio’s amnesty except more expensive because Trump would deport them first.
“I would get people out and then have an expedited way of getting them back into the country so they can be legal…. A lot of these people are helping us … and sometimes it’s jobs a citizen of the United States doesn’t want to do. I want to move ’em out, and we’re going to move ’em back in and let them be legal.” Donald Trump
Trump on Obama’s Dreamers.
“We’re going to do something. I’ve been giving it so much thought, you know you have a — on a humanitarian basis, you have a lot of deep thought going into this, believe me. I actually have a big heart.…I mean, a lot of people don’t understand that, but the DREAMers, it’s a tough situation, we’re going to do something, and one of the things we’re going to do is expedite — when somebody’s terrific, we want them back here, but they have to be legally…They’re with their parents, it depends. But, look, it sounds cold, and it sounds hard. But, we have a country, our country’s going to hell. We have to have a system where people are legally in our country.” Donald Trump

So …. the question was what you thought about the ad. Is it well done, compelling? I know what you think about Trump already. Please try to address the question. Thank you.

My opinion is that it is not effective because I know the context. I am not a sucker for attack ads. I do research and don’t believe everything I see on Fox, the internet, or in print.
Trump is a smart man, and he knows that Americans are angry about illegal immigration. He is pandering on ethanol subsidies to get the Iowa vote, so why do you believe that he isn’t pandering on immigration as well? IF you take him at his word, he will deport them and then bring them back with an expedited process. What is the point of spending the money to deport them and then let them come right back? How does that make good business sense?

Are you as critical of the “eminent domain” ad that Cruz is running? The one that lies about the home in Atlantic City that Trump supposedly stole from some poor old lady? Do you explain to your readers that the home is still there and that the woman still owns it? For what it’s worth, it is a very effective ad (my opinion) – too bad it’s built on lies.
Cruz is a weasel on a lot of things – immigration is one of them. For example, people who work in the IT world weren’t happy about his stance on the H-1B visa program.

So, he changed his position:

Cruz is also pandering on ethanol. By delaying the end of the program, he looks good to a lot of his followers, but the effective result is no different than Trump’s. The mandate stays in effect.
Apparently, tnwahm, you are unable to answer a simple question without grandstanding. And attempting to insult me – and others who read here – isn’t a good way to win friends. ” I do research and don’t believe everything I see on Fox, the internet, or in print. ” I assume you believe you are somehow superior in that regard?
I won’t engage you again.

I think it is effective when you see somebody saying what they mean in their own words with their own voice.

Whenever I hear “allows them to come in out of the shadows” I immediately turn off. To me it shows how out of touch the speaker is.

I saw this ad this morning, and then they played Cruz’s ad on emminent domain and Bernie’s ad on “Feel Good” or something. Mr. Trump’s ad, to me, was effective. It reminded me of how Obama stammers, stutters, and obfuscates when he is trying to find a plausible lie. It reminded me that Cruz is a freshman Senator, again, just like Obama. Just what we need, another ideolgue in office who finds consensus on nothing so takes his pen.

Speaking of the eminent domain ad, it turns out that the whole thing is built on a lie. While the tussle over the property is real, the property was never condemned, and nobody bought it. As of September, 2013, the building was still there, owned by the same old lady who is now in a nursing home, and is for sale by her son.

Though Cruz’s get-tough attitude on illegal immigration certainly matches Trump’s, the two men differ vastly on policies involving
