Good morning Menagerie we have about 5 inches of snow, it was mixed with freezing rain. It is lightly snowing right now. And we are do for another 5 inches tomorrow 😦 .
The dog is not pleased when I tell her that it is time to go out.

Right now they’re at 16288 cubic feet per second.
I keep checking ours and they keep dumping out more upstream and now we’re dumping at a lower rate. So ours is on the rise again.
Downstream from us they not only had been warning them through television and radio and online but sent the fire department out yesterday evening going door to door telling them they needed to evacuate. All of them refused to leave and then they started calling 911 to come rescue them.
I’ll never understand people, although it would be nearly impossible for us to flood, I’ve been paying attention. You’d think when you live on the water, you’d be paying even closer attention. You’d really think when they knocked on your door and told you they believe you need to evacuate, you’d get out.
It kind of chaps my behind that the same people who warned you and that you ignored, then have to risk their lives to save you.

We did get ice, an inch or less – enough to screw up driving. Now it’s in the low 40’s, so everything should melt. I can hear the sump pump running every so often, so that seems to be the case. It’s grey and overcast.

So, in between work related stuff I’m reading a book from 1797 with the short snappy title;

When looking at it from the aspect of learning the origins of socialism, it’s a bit of a page turner.
A copy was even sent to George Washington to review and give his opinion on (which was to paraphrase, ‘It’s not the whole organization, but individuals within it).
The fraternities of that time period in Europe were the only places the people preaching proto-socialism could speak freely without being arrested on grounds of treason.
Our universities of today are what the European fraternal societies on the 18th century were; Enlightenment and revolution.

I know very little about Free Masonry, only two things. Bad, bad blood between Catholicism and masonry, as in excommunication type bad blood, and my father in law, a man I deeply respected and admired for his intellect and faith, was once going to become a mason. He walked out of the ceremony, stating that the vows they asked him to make were incompatible with His Christian beliefs and were vows due only to God.
That is the sum total of what I know.
Interesting title. Where did you find this book? Impulse read, or part of something you have interest in?

It was referenced in another thing I was reading about the French revolution.
From what the author wrote, Free Masonry wasn’t like what we know or hear of today. He was shocked to find all the lodges he visited in Europe at the time had turned into what sound like todays universities (incompatible with Christian beliefs).
The time period from the “Time of Enlightenment” seems to be written about today in ways similar to how historians write in glowing terms of Woodrow Wilson and FDR or even the French revolution. At the time though, from reading works of the time period, the general reaction was on a whole the same way we looked at the OWS crowd. Seems to be the exact same type of people involved as well.

Read it with the understanding that the rebranding to “socialism” had not occurred yet, and the men’s club organizations had been infiltrated and used due to it being the one place they could get away with their activities and goals. The activities and message described are the same as the progressive-left-socialist of today.
