Appeals Court Allows Trump’s Troop Deployment to Portland

Good news.

PJ MEDIA

An appeals court just ruled that President Donald Trump can deploy National Guard troops to violence-plagued Portland, Oregon.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland has been under near-constant siege for months, as Antifa, Trantifa, and other radical leftists violently harass and even assault agents and federal property. Trump wanted to send in military backup, and this time, the legal decision went his way.

Forbes reported Monday: “A federal appeals court ruled Monday that President Donald Trump can send troops to Portland, Oregon, while litigation over their deployment moves forward, overturning a lower court that blocked Trump from his latest effort to use the military in Democratic-leaning cities.”

Andy Ngo reported that the Portland “No King” protests turned violent. He highlighted threatening messages on the protestors’ signs, including pro-guillotine messages.

Witkoff and Kushner discuss how the Trump administration plans to disarm Hamas

New York Post

Jared Kushner and US special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff — the pair largely responsible for Trump’s Israel-Hamas peace deal — provided rare insight into how the administration is trying to disarm the terror group and re-establish secure leadership in war-torn Gaza.

Kushner and Witkoff explained how they brokered the 20-point deal and what the next steps are on the Sunday episode of “60 Minutes” ahead of their trip to Israel on Monday.

Kushner warned that they expect Hamas to “try to reconstitute and take back their positions” within the power vacuum.

“The success or failure of this will be if Israel and this international mechanism is able to create a viable alternative. If they are successful, Hamas will fail, and Gaza will not be a threat to Israel in the future,” Kushner said.

The Paris Jewel Heist – What’s Been Stolen from the Louvre?

A major heist occurred at the Louvre Museum in Paris on Sunday, October 19, 2025, when four masked thieves stole eight items of jewelry of “incalculable” and “inestimable” cultural and historical value from the Galerie d’Apollon, which houses France’s historic crown jewels.

The thieves, who used a vehicle-mounted mechanical lift to access the museum and broke into display cases with power tools, escaped on motor scooters within seven minutes of the raid’s start at 9:30 a.m. local time.

The museum was closed for the day, and a manhunt is underway for the suspects, with two pieces of jewelry, including Empress Eugénie’s crown, found abandoned near the scene.

I would never be on the side of thieves, and I wonder how this could have happened. Seems that the Louvre has a casual relationship with security.

Assuming they get away with this, the stones will most likely be removed from the settings, and the stones and metal sold.

Empress Eugenie’s crown. Dropped by the thieves at the scene.

The stolen items include:

a tiara and brooch belonging to Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III.

An emerald and diamond necklace and a pair of emerald earrings from Empress Marie Louise’s collection were taken.

A sapphire tiara, necklace, and one earring from the collection of Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense were stolen.

The “reliquary brooch,” a diamond-encrusted piece, was also taken.

The crown of Empress Eugénie, featuring 1,354 diamonds and 56 emeralds, was found broken nearby after being dropped by the fleeing suspects.

Meatloaf – American or Italian?

In the USA we call it meatloaf. In Italy they call it Polpettone.

I have made meatloaf a couple of times lately. It’s a good and fairly reasonably priced dish that can feed a family for a couple of meals or just me for several.

In the past, I used just ground beef in my meatloaf, with a glaze of good old Heinz Ketchup. Sometime I made meatloaf from ground turkey (flavored very differently, of course). Lately, I have been loosely following the method demonstrated by J. Kenji Lopez-Alt, a combo of beef and pork, with a “fancier” glaze, and it is very good.

In the old days (1950’s) “meatloaf mix” was a combo of beef, pork, and veal. As Kenji explains, veal contains a lot of collagen, which acts as a binder. He substitutes powdered gelatin for veal in his meatloaf mixes.

Today, I watched this video by Pasta Grammar for the Italian version of meatloaf – Polpettone, which is a stuffed meatloaf, and in this case it is all ground pork, but you could use all beef, or a mix, if you prefer. I’ve heard of it before, but never made it, although it looks intriguing.

I’m providing videos for both methods. Maybe I’ll try the Italian version some day!

Here is the method for making Polpettone (two versions):

Here is the link to the instructions for Polpettone, if you want to give it a try:
