What is happening in Panama?

President Trump has talked a lot about Panama ever since he was elected President, and we know that Secretary of State Rubio’s first foreign visit was to Panama. You may be wondering why.

Rubio’s visit to Panama produced a positive result, with the Panamanian government announcing that they would not renew a contract that they have with a Chinese company related to operation of the canal, and would seek early termination of the current contract. Fox News reports:

Panama’s president vowed Sunday to end a key development deal with China after meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and after complaints from President Donald Trump that the Latin American country had ceded control over its critical shipping canal to Beijing.

José Raúl Mulino, Panama’s president, said his nation’s sovereignty over the 51-mile waterway, which connects the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, will remain unchanged. But he said he would not renew a 2017 memorandum of understanding to join China’s Belt and Road global development initiative and that Panama would instead look to work more closely with the U.S.

“I think this visit opens the door to build new relations … and try to increase as much as possible U.S. investments in Panama,” Mulino told reporters after meeting with Rubio on his first international trip since being confirmed.

I don’t know about you, but I didn’t know that the Chinese had anything to do with the Panama Canal. What I learned is that we have a treaty with Panama that was signed at the time that the Canal was “sold” to Panama for $1.00 during the Presidency of Jimmy Carter. That treaty states that Panama must maintain a neutral stance regarding operation of the Canal and that if they did not, the USA has the option to intervene.

This video explains the history of the Canal, the political considerations that led to the USA giving the canal to the country of Panama, previous military operations in Panama (think Noriega) and what is happening now.

Trump and Canadian Tariffs

We all understand why President Trump is placing tariffs on Mexico, but you might wonder why Canada is being similarly punished. This video explanation by an everyday Canadian will help you (and me) to understand.

Even the New York Time said in an article last October,

Canada has long had one of the world’s most open immigration policies. Now, faced with a growing popular backlash, it’s changing the rules.

2 Dead, Dozens Sick in Tuberculosis Outbreak in Kansas City Area

I wrote about this particular threat to U.S. citizens caused by illegal immigration way back in 2016. At that time, Minnesota was seeing an outbreak of tuberculosis:

“I can confirm that one hospital worker at Mercy Hospital and one hospital worker at Abbott Northwestern Hospital were diagnosed with active TB,” Allina Health Vice President of Marketing and Communications David Kanihan revealed to Breitbart News. Both hospitals are located in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area and are owned by Allina Health, confirming the diagnosis active tuberculosis (TB).

The Minnesota Department of Health reported that in 2014, 73% of the 147 active cases of TB in Minnesota were foreign born. Around one in five resettled Somali Muslims in Minnesota test positive for TB.

“In late May, Allina Health began notifying 141 people who had been patients at either Abbott Northwestern Hospital or Mercy Hospital earlier this year that they may have been exposed to tuberculosis (TB). At each location, we learned that a worker who helped deliver care had TB. We carefully and thoroughly reviewed records to identify patients who had been closely enough in contact with these workers to have a potential exposure to TB … “

Here is a report of an outbreak in California in 2024:

Now we have an outbreak in Kansas City:

The Churches Opposing Trump (and a majority of all Americans) on Immigration are taking millions/billions in federal funds

The hypocrisy of the Episcopal Church, Catholic Church, Baptist Church etc. is very interesting. If you want to know how interesting, check out the HHS TAGGS database, search awards on the word “alien” (or various other words, like unaccompanied alien), select a time period and see what you get. This is big business.

Here is a link to the TAGGS search page that I used. I will also provide some summary data for you.

https://taggs.hhs.gov/SearchAward

You can do searches of your own from this page, and sort the results by clicking at the top of the column you wish to sort by. I sorted by recipient.

If you don’t want to do this, here is an article that lays out some current data for the Episcopal and Catholic organizations:

PJ MEDIA

The New York Post reported Friday that Budde’s “sermon to President Trump during an inaugural prayer service, coupled with her church’s advocacy for humanitarian immigration programs, reveals a striking hypocrisy — one that could be seen as self-serving and even a conflict of interest.” This is because in 2023, EMM “earned $53 million from various taxpayer-funded government programs to resettle 3,600 individuals.” If Trump stops the migrant influx and ends the funding for such programs, the Episcopal Church could suddenly be facing a significant shortfall of cash.

[…]

The Episcopal Church isn’t alone in this hypocrisy. The Post notes that “the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) dwarfs EMM. Forbes reported that USCCB affiliate Catholic Charities USA, which has its hand in all aspects of immigration and seems to get money from every government agency except NASA, received $1.4 billion in taxpayer dollars in 2021. That’s 68 times more than EMM got that year.”
