Good mornin’, and happy Saturday! Something has happened on WordPress overnight that’s making weirdness when attempting to add a picture. That’s a campfire coffee pot below. I’ll go down the rabbit hole later to see if I can figure out how to work this variation. Anyway, keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee.

I went to my SI bot and here’s what he said. Note that I typically use the Google Chrome browser, so your results may vary – until this morning, i was able to post an image on a wordpress blog by “copy image address” and dropping in the site. it now shows the url and not the image directly. i use chrome browser. how do i post the image directly now

WordPress usually turns a pasted image address into a picture automatically, but only when it recognizes the link as an image. A recent WordPress or Chrome update, or an image address that ends in something other than .jpg or .png, can stop that from working. Any of these will get the picture back:

Option 1: Copy the image itself (quickest)

        1. In Chrome, right-click the image and choose Copy image, not “Copy image address.”
        2. Click in your WordPress post and press Ctrl + V.
        3. WordPress should upload the picture to your Media Library and show it in the post.

Option 2: Use an Image block with the address

        1. In the post, click the + button and choose Image.
        2. Click Insert from URL.
        3. Paste the image address and press Enter.

Option 3: Save it, then upload it (most reliable)

        1. Right-click the image and choose Save image as… to save it to your laptop.
        2. In WordPress, add an Image block, click Upload, and pick the saved file.

Options 1 and 3 store a copy on your own site. Option 2 only links to the picture where it lives now, so if that site changes or removes it, the image disappears from your post. If the images come from other people’s sites, make sure you have the right to use them on your blog.

If none of these work, tell me what you see when you try Option 2, and whether you’re on the regular block editor or the Classic editor.

Mornin’ All. Down to 34* and up to 50*. Very overcast and is misty raining off and on.

I have a few things I need to do today. I hope I don’t get distracted like I usually do. LOL

I haven’t checked the path of the storm yet. I hope you all are staying safe
