No, I was in 8th grade. The accident happened on a Friday, and the news went around our junior high school quickly the following Monday. Though his movies hadn’t yet reached our small town theaters, we knew who he was because we bought movie magazines.
“East of Eden” was the first of his major films and released in 1955. It was considered an “adult” film, and our parents would never have let us see it.
