    National Different Colored Eyes Day – a cool difference

    National Pecan Pie Day – possibly my favorite, but I love all pies

    National Simplicity Day – can’t see this happening in my lifetime

      Morning czarina, pecan pie, but I’m picky about it, some of them can be terrible. Years ago we traveled to Memphis for Thanksgiving. Every place we ate during the trip was serving turkey and dressing, pies, etc. Found out that somewhere between Chattanooga and Nashville, people do not know how to make a good pie. Don’t know what their problem is. But if y’all are ever in Chattanooga during the fall and winter holidays, you won’t have a problem finding a delicious pie. I wonder if other states have that problem!

      Eat your Jello day? Reminds me of seeing it on hospital trays.

      And congealed salad. (Lovely name isn’t it?)

      My opinion may have been tainted by a story I was told about a certain gathering and Tomato Aspic. Evidently great care had been taken with the dish and sliced olives had been included. The provider of the dish was quite proud of the results until one person answered the question, “What is that?” with the answer, “That’s Tomato Aspic, see the little black rings? That’s the a**holes.”

      Heathen!

        Jello may have medicinal purposes when mixed with ice cream. It is a pretty dish.

          Thanks, Reflection. The throat bit (along with a slight cough) is a rare but unfortunate problem with chronic anemia connected to chronic kidney disease. I’d never had a clue the two were connected until recently. Someday, on the other side, we won’t have to be concerned with any of that.

    Good mornin’, and happy Sunday. It’s not all that good though, as we lost one of our guys this morning. Mrs. T hit me with the news about Senator Lindsey Graham. While a bit shaky at times, he was one of ours and could be counted on when things got tough for our side. God bless him. Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee.

      A mental midget who thinks he’s a genius. New Yorkers chose an America/capitalist hater. The city has had leadership on a negative trend since Giuliani. How they are going to get themselves out of the hole they dug themselves is anyone’s guess.

      It is pretty much true. One of the big problems was the corruption of public officials from the 1960’s on. One of the mayors, Kwame Kilpatrick, went to jail in October 2008 after pleading guilty to perjury and obstruction of justice. He was later sentenced to 28 years in federal prison in 2013 for racketeering and other charges.

      The City Council was also filled with crooks. It is a bit better now.

        That’s the inconvenient truth the video failed to mention. Detroit had become synonymous with urban decay and crime.

        I hope the American revival of industry will benefit Detroit and many other places.

        I remember the outstanding Art Deco architecture and was saddened to see it in ruins. I had never seen such a massive abandonment of homes outside of war zones. So, to see even this glimmer of hope was heartening.

          Well, you know that a lot of our families (mine included) left the city for the suburbs. In our case, it was in 1947, right after I was born. We moved to my uncle’s property in the country, where a kid could roam free. Lots of other left because of crime, particularly after the riots in the 1960’s.

          One of the council crooks was Monica Conyers, wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers. She spent three years in federal prison. Monica pleaded guilty in 2009 to using her position on the city council and a city pension fund board to demand money from businessmen seeking city contracts or pension deals. Her indictment said she told her partner in crime: “You’d better get my loot, that’s all I know.”

    A tear in the aorta usually results in immediate death. Considering that he had access to excellent medical care, I’m surprised that he hadn’t been screened for this.

      Nearly 20 years ago, I was playing golf with a colleague, and he collapsed on the golf course and was gone before he hit the ground. An aortic anuerysm. He had some cardiovascular issues many years prior, but “regular screening” wasn’t in the plan.
