      Has okra come in yet? If so, I shall be having pinto beans with ham hocks, fried okra, fried squash, squash relish, fresh sliced ‘maters, perhaps mashed taters if I’m really ambitious, and finally, cornbread. Which absolutely must be made with buttermilk and no sugar. Let her who cannot properly make such cornbread be anathema. It’s in the Bible. Leviticus, I think. We’re serious around here, no messing with Grandmother’s cornbread recipe. And yeah, we’re still using her cast iron skillet to make it in!

        I would love to have some fried okra. Daddy always called cornbread with sugar in it corn cake. He preferred corn bread. Mama made it in a cast iron skillet at least three times a week. She would set it on the table and we would cut the crispy edge off of it, butter it and eat it. The center was for Daddy to eat In buttermilk as a snack at night. None of it got wasted.

      PS: I made butter pecan ice cream yesterday, and it is very good.

      Yes, I really like chocolate wafers.

      I am ready to eat beans any day. I was raised on them.

      I pass on the fried clams.

      Love ice cream.

      We sometimes need plastic bags.

      PLUS I’m celebrating (though it did not make it on the official list) is…

    Morning everyone. Too hot to cook, too hot to eat. Although peaches are not nearly my favorite fruit, in my opinion they are the best smoothie! I’m including the recipe here, but I’ll also tell you, it’s awful hard to mess a peach smoothie up. Throw some stuff in the blender and whirl! Use fresh peaches, not frozen like this recipe. Yum!

      Peaches are up there for me on the fruit scale, but they have to be tree ripened and preferably local. This week I’m enjoying delicious, ripe, watermelon. It’s delicious alone, or with cottage cheese for my breakfast. The combo of sweet and salty is divine.

    Good mornin’, and happy Friday! Took the day off, so I slept in a bit. As we get set for a huge birthday party, I felt we needed to class things up a bit, so I found one of our favorites. Fancy enough to even be at a wedding later today! Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee.

    Good afternoon All. Its is 70* and sunny here with a few clouds. It looks like tomorrow will be really beautiful for all the festivities. Friends from church have a house out in the country with a pool and everyone goes there for the kids to swim, a potluck, and fireworks after dark.

    Hope you all keep cool and enjoy this day and the 4th.
