Karmelo’s lawyer proposed to the jury that Austin just fell on the knife. How do lawyers sleep?

A cornerstone of our justice system is the right to a trial. The lawyers defending Karmelo deserve credit for taking on this case. Even if his guilt was obvious from the onset, our justice system demands that everyone have access to a fair trial. They were not defending him as much as defending and maintaining the system we all rely on. As the saying goes: “It’s a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.”

When I lived in Miami 60 years ago, a man killed his wife. Everyone knew he did it, all the evidence showed he did it. But his lawyer got him off by presenting a completely ridiculous alternative story. Yes, everyone has the right to a trial, and everyone has the right to tell a huge lie. It just discourages the rest of us.

Czarina,
Does everyone have the right to tell a huge lie? When everyone who goes before a jury swears to tell the truth?
Lawyers Have a Duty to Tell the Truth
LAWYERS HAVE A DUTY TO “EMPLOY MEANS CONSISTENT WITH THE TRUTH.”
There are so many jokes about lawyers being dishonest that it surprises many people to learn that lawyers have a duty to tell the truth.
California Business & Professions Code Section 6068, which establishes (some) of the duties of lawyers, says that every California lawyer has a duty:
(d) To employ, for the purpose of maintaining the causes confided to him or her those means only as are consistent with truth, and never to seek to mislead the judge or any judicial officer by an artifice or false statement of fact or law.
In simpler terms, California lawyers are legally required :

Sad. Sadder still is the harsh reality that these cases do happen. It’s an unfortunate reminder to us all that our criminal justice system, like the humans that created it, is imperfect in too many ways.

It is interesting to see the Sorter video because you can note the beginnings of a situation being manipulated either by unbridled emotion or intent.
Watch the man in the blue shirt. He is speaking up close to a woman in the crowd. She is unmoved. He starts a hopping motion which draws attention to him, and then begins chanting.

I heard that he got sentenced to something like 35 years. Let’s see how the “organic” protesting goes today.
