Good mornin’, and happy Saturday! We went to the last Texas grandchild’s high school graduation last night, and just couldn’t get to bed on time, so coffee has started early. Another one of our campfire coffee pots. Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee.

Most Beautiful Horse in the World….

The Akhal-Teke is more than a horse. It’s a living symbol of the desert’s spirit. It’s not just its looks that make it unforgettable. It’s the whole package – a testament to beauty, strength, and partnership with humans.

I have talked a couple of times about my DIL having a severe case of alpha gal syndrome.

We went out to one of the best restaurants in town a few days ago to celebrate my grandson’s birthday. I watched her go through the list of chicken dishes one by one and eliminate them because they were prepared alongside meats. Even the fried chicken, which she normally never eats, was cooked in oil that was changed to cook chicken, but the fryer was not cleaned between oil changes.

She was, yet again, reduced to a life of eating lettuce while the rest of us feasted on wonderful foods.

Two points coming here. This meat allergy has become so common that waitresses know the ins and outs of it, and more things to point out about it to their customers than they thought to ask.

Second, I just saw a request of Facebook from a person in our area looking for a dentist who can and will treat alpha gal patients. Lots of stuff used in every appointment has meat byproducts.

This is way, way too common now, and call me a conspiracy theorist, but yeah, I think they are already releasing these ticks. It is a horrid thing for people, way beyond what we initially think it involves.

Do y’all remember the Foxfire books that were such a big when, back in the 70s, 80s? I’ve always wanted to go down and visit the village. This year we’re going to take our youngest grandson. I think he’d will love it. His dad is a huge American history buff, and the kid has gone to battlefields and museums mostly east of the Mississippi all his life.

A list of the activities. What a fine glimpse in Appalachian skills and culture. I’m very excited.

Fourteen blacksmiths at the forge. Black powder rifle history. Pottery on the wheel. Butter in the churn. Woodstove cooking, canning, weaving, flint knapping, basketry, small engines, music, children’s activities, and barbecue from Blue Hound Barbecue

What makes Heritage Days special is where it happens! The demonstrations aren’t in booths; they’re spread throughout our historic village, inside and around the cabins, porches, and grounds. Families can wander the village, hear the forge, smell what’s cooking, and see what daily work looked like when these skills were still part of everyday life.

For two days, demonstrators will share the skills, stories, and hands-on Appalachian traditions that have shaped life for generations. Families can also visit the Children’s Village, where kids can make something, try activities, ask questions, with plenty of space to run around.

Yes! DH has most of the Foxfire books – if not all of them! When I was a kid and we lived in Yankeeland we visited historic Williamsburg and it was much the same. I’d rather visit it or your village as an adult – with much more appreciation and interest, now.

Me, I’m going to that moonshine demonstration! I don’t know if you remember, but in the early Treehouse days when you opened the bar on Friday nights, my husband had a relative getting rid of a small still. We lived in the woods, kinda isolated in the cabin on the ridge, and I was all set to get it, and the killjoy husband wouldn’t let me.

Yeah, I hold a grudge. I might just be as good a brewer by now as I am a bread baker. Who knows if I missed my life calling?

Afternoon Stella. Going to rain pretty much all weekend and next week too. Still, I may grill some steaks and brats. I may not, too! I have not felt like cooking much and I’ve found an excellent nearby restaurant that’s in the pre packaged takeout meal business. They sell casseroles or meat and 1 vegetable packages, usually $7, and it actually serves two rather than 1, if combined with a side, usually $6 and it serves at least 2. So, really good food at less than I’d spend for groceries.

The downside is, it’s not low carb and I don’t know sodium, etc., and except that we’re eating smaller portions, it’s not low calorie, I’d say.
