Another Congress member is missing!

At least, she is missing as far as we know. Seems to me that it is time for Speaker Johnson to do some investigating, AND some explaining.

Reported on Mediaite:

Another member of Congress has been missing a slew of votes without much explanation.

Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL), 83, has not voted in the House of Representatives since April 17, congressional reporter Jamie Dupree of the Regular Order newsletter noted on Wednesday night. Posting on Bluesky, he pointed out that Wilson had missed all 10 House votes on Wednesday and has now missed 43 consecutive votes.

Included in Dupree’s post were images posted on Wilson’s X account on Tuesday, but he noted something was amiss.

“Wilson’s X account this week sent out photos of a Service Academy day – but pictures from the same event were posted last October,” Dupree wrote.

Wilson is not the only House member who has been missing lots of votes. Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-NJ) has been MIA since March. Kean’s office later issued a statement, saying the congressman is dealing with an unspecified “personal medical issue.” The congressman has yet to return to the House.

Republicans hold a narrow majority in the House, where so far, four Democratic members have died this term.

83-Year-Old House Democrat Is MIA – With No Explanation

You may be aware that last month it was reported that Maxine Waters (age 87) had been absent from Congress for some time, and that Jamie Raskin was voting for her. Apparently Speaker Johnson allowed it. It has been reported this week on X, as follows:

In early 2026, public scrutiny intensified over Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA, age 87), who has not had any verified physical presence on the House floor or in the chamber since mid-February. Her most recent confirmed public appearances were limited to two district events on April 26, 2026, in California (a town hall at Inglewood High School and a keynote at a local Democratic club luncheon), with no further in-person events reported by mid-May.

This pattern has prompted reasonable concerns that her congressional and administrative duties—including committee work, constituent services, and policy statements—are largely being managed by staff, while she continues to run for reelection in the June 2026 primary.

Despite the absence, Waters’ votes continue to be recorded in official House tallies. Republican leadership maintains these are cast via unauthorized proxy arrangements directed by Democratic leadership, which violate the 119th Congress rules (H. Res. 5) that ended proxy voting except in a narrow parental-leave case (for which she does not qualify). No other members in either chamber are using or authorized for proxy voting on the floor.

A formal challenge—already advanced through motions by Speaker Mike Johnson and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan to restrict her voting card and strike roughly five months of her recorded votes—could result in those votes being nullified, further limits on her participation, or heightened enforcement of in-person requirements if sustained by the House.

As far as I know, this isn’t supposed to be allowed.
