Stellars, have a wonderful Sunday in Appalachia….

“The Hidden Ecosystems of Appalachia — Rainforests, Tundra, Alpine Forests & More”

Appalachia is home to some of the most unique and diverse ecosystems in North America: including temperate rainforests, heath balds, alpine forests, and even tundra-like environments. In this video, we explore the surprising ecological diversity of the Appalachian Mountains, including:

    • Heath balds (like Craggy Gardens)

    • Temperate rainforests of the southern Appalachians

    • High elevation alpine forests

    • Tundra like ecosystems in West Virginia

    • Unique wildlife, including salamanders and undiscovered species

The Appalachian Mountains are among the oldest mountain ranges on Earth, and their age, climate, and geography have created an incredible diversity of habitats, many found nowhere else.

This was to accompany my post on Appalachia but that post was sent to moderation. It will probably show up later.

Map of Appalachia…as you can see, West Virginia is the only state entirely in Appalachia…

National Lemon Chiffon Cake Day – Chiffon cakes tend to be lower in saturated fat than butter cakes, potentially making them healthier than their butter-heavy counterparts.

National Pita Day – I remember when I first saw these in the stores, in the 70’s

    National Vietnam Veterans’ Day

National Nevada Day – pretty diverse from glitzy, crowded Vegas to barren, rocky deserts to Mountains of Tahoe.

    National Education and Sharing Day

National Mom and Pop Business Owners’ Day

Morning czarina. I once had a week in Carson City. We went to Virginia City, Tahoe, Death Valley, and Napa Valley. Trips up in the Sierras. Found out that day that the highest and lowest elevations in the continental US are in one county in California. If we hadn’t been there too early for the pass to open, we’d have gone to Yosemite too. I absolutely loved the desert.

I can tell you right now, it sure never occurred to this Southerner that April, and I’m pretty sure it was late April, was too early in the year to drive somewhere. As a matter of fact, I never knew until then that we still have passes that are closed to travel in the winter. Never thought about it.

I’d never be interested in Vegas, but I would love to go back to that area to vacation because if you’re willing to drive a coupe of hours in different directions, there’s so much to see and do. Great area to visit. Lake Tahoe is the only touristy area I’ve ever visited that I consider worth the people.

Good mornin’, czarina! I can pretty much get on board with all of those. Like Menage, I’m not the biggest fan of Sin City anymore, but cake always sounds good to me, along with a good sandwich. God Bless our veterans!

Good day, Czarina! Saw a YouTube travel video recently of Las Vegas and it was like a ghost town. Last time I was there in 2007 for a political conference it was packed as one would expect. The small hotel room offering I’d reserved turned out to be overbooked and so management gave me this incredible suite for the weekend at no extra cost.

      Love Lake Tahoe, Nevada…

A super moist Lemon Chiffon Cake with glazed frosting…yummy…

Good mornin’, and happy Sunday! As we quickly approach Easter, it’s more critical than ever that everyone has enough coffee to drink so we can remember the names of the “new ones” at church who look like they were here last year at the same time. Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee!

Morning T, and thank you sir!

I have always remembered a little lecture in the sermon after Easter or Christmas one year, many years ago. The priest said “Ah, but we get to keep one or two each year. Is that not worth crowded pews and fewer parking spaces?”

      I’m thinking…

Seriously, many people maintain that link and eventually do find their way home. But I am going to try to get there early and keep my favorite seat!

Good mornin’, Menage! I know all about that favorite seat. We had Family Row for about a pew-and-a-half in our little church. Woe be to the newbie to sit there!!!!!

Happy Palm Sunday, Texan! As a kid I loved going to church during Easter week and then on Easter Sunday getting to wear my new dress and new “Sunday only” shoes. People used to really dress up in those days.

Your maker today would go well to keep the singing voice in tune for the congregational songs. Coffee on Sunday in the church courtyard always calls for styrofoam cups. Would anyone object if you brought along your own travel mug with lid…

Our Favorite Sunday Columnist has some thoughts again this week. They are about math……….but you don’t have to do the math, she does it for you. Fill up your cup and sit a spell. A few thoughts that may surprise you.

Did y’all know that the corona is back at it again? No? Me neither, but apparently there’s a new version and some pinheads still working for the CDC think we should start to panic. I’m gonna pass this go-round, but you do you. 😉

Hegseth Slashes ‘Faith Codes’ in Move to Make Chaplains the Spiritual Backbone of the US Military

By Jack Davis, The Western Journal – Mar. 28, 2026 8:20 pm

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth says his latest reforms will allow the Chaplain Corps to fulfill its mission of being the spiritual backbone of America’s military.

The number of faith codes used in the service has been winnowed down to 31, according to a War Department news release.

In 2017, the Pentagon issued a list of 221 groups that qualify as a religious group. The list included Wiccans and atheists, according to Stars and Stripes.

“The previous system had ballooned to well over 200 faith codes,” Hegseth said Tuesday.
