Are you surprised by Marco Rubio?

I admit that if you had asked me just a few years ago what I thought about Marco Rubio, my assessment wouldn’t have been very positive. Today it is clear that I was wrong. The way things look right (granted, very early in the game), he could be the 2028 Republican nominee for President.

Sec. Marco Rubio, speaking today in the Cabinet room:

“What I’m talking about is not the people of Iran. The people that run this country are RADICAL, SHIA CLERICS. These are religious FANATICS. Look what they are doing now at their WEAKEST point!”

“This is the weakest Iran has ever been, and look at what they’re doing. They’re attacking embassies. They’re attacking hotels. Imagine what these people would do if they had a nuclear weapon!”

“That is an unacceptable risk for the world. By the way, the president’s not just doing a favor to the United States and to our people. This is for the world!”

“He defined very clearly on the first night of this operation what the goal was. We were going to destroy Iran’s navy, and that is happening. We were going to, if it hasn’t already happened, I’ll let Pete speak to the specifics of it, we were going to destroy their missile launching capabilities.”

“We’re well on our way to achieving that goal. We were going to destroy the factory so they couldn’t make more missiles and more drones. And that is moving forward.”

“Every single objective the president clearly laid out on the first night of this operation is being effectuated.”

“For 47 YEARS, Iran has been killing Americans and attacking Americans across this planet. And other presidents had an opportunity to DO something about it, and they all warned about how Iran was dangerous, but they refused to act.”

“And THIS president’s not someone that’s going to refuse to act. He’s not going to leave a danger like this in place. He’s going to address it, and that is what he is doing.”

I have liked Rubio all along, off and on. I didn’t completely trust him because of his Hispanic roots. I have always been against illegal immigration and I was never sure he was. However, I think he has been learning under Trump. It is my sense that he has matured in the last 10 years. And, it is obvious that President Trump has a very high opinion of him and that he has been very successful in all the jobs he has been given.

Both of his parents were born in Cuba, but Marco was born in Miami in 1971. His parents were not naturalized until 1975, which I am sure will be brought up two million times if he decides to run for President, because the contention will be that he isn’t a “natural born citizen”.

Prior to Obama there would be no debate. It would be shown that he was not born to US citizens, thus not natural born, and people would accept that. Post Obama, yeah, this could be enough of a dust up to where he intentionally stays out of that fray.

What would you say about this:

Andrew Jackson: Both parents were Irish subjects and not U.S. citizens at the time of his birth in 1767.
James Buchanan: His father was born in Ireland and immigrated to the U.S., becoming a citizen later.
Chester A. Arthur: His father was an Irish citizen who did not naturalize until after Arthur’s birth.
Barack Obama: His father was a Kenyan citizen who never became a U.S. citizen.
Herbert Hoover: His mother was born in Canada (then a British subject), though she was a U.S. resident.

Additionally, Thomas Jefferson’s mother was born in England, and Woodrow Wilson’s mother was Scottish—both before those individuals became U.S. citizens through naturalization or residence.

Of course, Donald Trump’s mother was born in Scotland, but she became a naturalized citizen before he was born.
