Good mornin’, and happy Wednesday! We’re getting ready for the downhill side, so all will be well. While not very big, this is definitely a bit unique. From Italy, so we know it’s gotta work. Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee.

Morning czarina. I’m going with a negative comment today. I’ve done a lot of research on renal diets the last months. A lot of the recipes and guidance I’ve read has been written by renal dietitians. A lot of other problems are either an effect of kidney problems, or accompany them, heart problems and diabetes being common.

These dietitians take out salt and meat and rely on crappy carbs like, I kid you not, white bread, white rice, and pasta, and they call it healthy. Also, sugar isn’t eliminated at all, they appear to use sweeteners open to mask the bland taste.

I have come to the unfortunate conclusion that so called renal diets are most often more unhealthy that what people did before.

Dietitians appear to have not looked at their own training for years, and they have tunnel vision.

I agree about dieticians, Menage. I have looked at diets for diabetics, and it includes white bread etc. When I put myself on a carb restricted diet to lose weight, my daughter’s MIL (who had type 2 diabetes) didn’t understand that vegetables and fruit are sufficient sources of carbohydrates. She thought it was mandatory to eat bread, pasta etc.

I’ve read a lot lately by doctors who point out that diabetics should research what the recommended diet was for them before insulin. It was extremely low carb, and some doctors went so far as a carnivore diet with a lot of protein and fat. For many of them, this controlled their diabetes.

Many sources of carbs, even some considered complex carbs, spike blood sugar. Also, I am not at all convinced that meat is absolutely not recommended for kidney patients. It seems to be better for the patient to consume it with some fat.

Most of these dietitians have people on such limited amounts of protein and crap carbs and sugars that I don’t know how they don’t starve. I think many of them probably cheat and overeat, and doctors would be better off giving them an actual diet they can follow.

The renal diet is like the food pyramid. It needs to be looked at and revised. Of course, for anyone out there with kidney problems, please know that this is only my opinion. However, it’s been formed over the course of more than a year, and it’s a very well informed opinion with some solid sources of information. I would urge you to do your own research and remember that your lab results are critical when making food choices.

There is an influencer (I guess that is what they are called), Lauren the Mortician. I have watched a few of her videos and she is pretty interesting. She explains things you might have questions about and does it very directly, with some humor.

Mornin’ All. Cool and sunny here right now. It must have snowed a little overnight, but it is already melting. There is a warning out for bad weather on the other side of the Glacier National Park, I think it was. And, we are supposed to get snow this afternoon. We’ll see.

Stay safe. The reports farther East look pretty bad. Try to enjoy the day anyway.
