Good morning, everyone! It’s Monday—a fresh start to a new week, but not without an excessive amount of coffee and the hope that Phil can dig himself out from under the snow today! Happy Groundhog Day.

Good mornin’, and happy Monday! I just found out that I missed the Grammy’s again. That’s about 20 years in a row now! I found a new coffee pot too! What a good couple days. This is a statue in Saudi Arabia. Coffee seems to be a thing there as well. Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee.

Well, I can’t say I’ve ever watched the Grammys or any other award show. I fail to see the excitement in watching weirdos award each other weird statues. Good morning and thanks for the coffee. Apparently there’s one more good thing in Saudi Arabia than oil! I’ll keep count now!

Mornin’ Tex! I don’t think I’ve watched the Grammys since the 1980’s. No loss. Love the pot!

Keep the brew hot and plentiful, Texan. Part of the Saudi Arabia of today was included in the Ottoman Empire. As you know, Turkey is the remnant of the Empire overthrown at the end of World War 1. Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, would love to take Medina and Mecca back from Saudi control and place them under his renewed Empire plan (good luck with that!!).

A bit of coffee history from AI….

The Ottoman Empire did not invent coffee, but it played a crucial role in its popularization and cultural significance.

      Origins of Coffee

      • Coffee originated in Ethiopia and was later cultivated in Yemen. It was introduced to the Ottoman Empire in the early 16th century, primarily through trade routes.
      • The first coffeehouses appeared in the Ottoman Empire around the mid-1500s, starting in Mecca and spreading to major cities like Istanbul.

      Cultural Impact

      • The Ottomans transformed coffee from a Yemeni religious stimulant into a global cultural phenomenon, integrating it into social life.
      • Coffeehouses became centers for social interaction, discussion, and entertainment, significantly influencing the social fabric of the empire

      More from AI….

Turkey and Saudi Arabia represent different segments of Islam.

      Religious Orientation

      • Turkey is predominantly Sunni Muslim but has a secular government that separates religion from state affairs. This secularism influences its interpretation and practice of Islam.
      • Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, is also predominantly Sunni but follows a strict interpretation known as Wahhabism, which emphasizes a conservative approach to Islamic law and practice.

      Cultural Context

      • Turkey’s secularism allows for a more diverse cultural expression of Islam, integrating modernity with tradition.
      • Saudi Arabia’s culture is deeply intertwined with its Islamic identity, emphasizing traditional practices and laws derived from the Quran and Hadith.

      Political Dynamics

      • The rivalry between Turkey and Saudi Arabia is partly rooted in their differing visions for Islamic leadership and influence in the Muslim world. Turkey seeks a more modern, inclusive approach, while Saudi Arabia aims to maintain its role as the custodian of Islam’s holiest sites and a leader in conservative Islamic thought

The latest info seems to be that the evil Khamenei has rejected all U.S. approaches and demands for the people of Iran in favor of his continued iron-hand Murder, Inc-style dictatorship.
