Good mornin’, and happy Friday! Thankfully, we’ve made it to the end of a rather brisk week of cold and snow, but POTUS is up there like the Energizer Bunny twisting arms and going to the movies! I brought out an old face this morning in case you wanted to do the combo thing. Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee.

    A PUZZLE POSSIBLY SOLVED

I’ve always washed produce quite well with water before consumption. However, after running across a YouTube advert re washing produce properly, I’ve come to the conclusion that the two virus episodes late last year that sent me to the Urgent Care were because the Walmart produce had viruses that were not easily cleaned off with water. I remember one incident where Walmart sent radishes with globs of mud on them.

Urgent Care could not determine what the virus was but it was not Covid. I’m pretty much confined to my apartment, go nowhere except to doctor offices, virtually see no one for months at a time. So the usual physical contact with humans was non-existent and it’s been a puzzle how in the world I caught such an awful virus, especially since I’m rather obsessive about washing my hands after I open any delivery from the outside world.

This is what AI has to say about it….

    How Contamination Occurs

Produce can become contaminated with viruses at several points from the farm to the consumer’s table:

    • Agricultural water and soil: Using contaminated irrigation water or improperly treated manure as fertilizer can introduce pathogens to crops in the field.
    • Handling: Infected workers in production, packing, transport, or grocery stores who practice poor personal hygiene can transfer viruses to produce through hand-to-food contact or contaminated surfaces.
    • Cross-contamination: Contact with raw meat, poultry, seafood, or unwashed produce and dirty surfaces/utensils in the grocery store or home can also spread germs.

This is probably old information to most Stellars, but honestly I never thought about viruses glomming onto our produce before.
