Music of the day – Taxman

Seems appropriate for the beginning of the new tax year! There is hope that this year’s bite will be smaller. I hear that they aren’t so lucky in England.

Wages have been depressed for a very long time in England when compared to taxes. I wonder when this was written.

The Beatles had a chance to see the difference in wages, taxes and quality of life compared to that in Great Britain.

    Thanks Stella,

That’s incredibly difficult to decipher, especially with all the detailed adjustments and and other tax equivalents. And the writer admits not all governmental costs were covered.

Perhaps the Beatles were hard hit because of their new found fame and fortune.

The defense against the British tax rates was the presence of socialized healthcare, the NHS, was a source of pride, until it started falling apart.

Cost of living still seems to outpace wages, especially in terms of housing. The U.S. in recent years has seen the same trend.
