Good mornin’ Menagerie! What happened to October? That passed by rather quickly!

No kidding, my very favorite month is done for the year! I spent the day running the river, holler, and mountain roads. Colors are just peaking around here. Got to take in so much of God’s glorious beauty yesterday.

Good morning, Stella! Bright sunny day here today but very windy. My flag is flying straight out from my flag pole all morning.

Good mornin’ and happy Saturday, all! Looks like we’ve got some thirsty folks this morning, so we’re not gonna wait for the fire. Drink up, y’all. Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee.

I’m up early to get to work, so glad the coffee’s ready. Another pleasant fall day here.
A few NO families are doing the traditional All Saints’ Day picnic at the cemetery and whitewashing of the tombs today.b

Brr. It’s 38* here. This is roughly the Southern equivalent of waking up in the Arctic, as you know. Morning czarina.

Morning Stella! I’m still shivering. Weak blood, the old timers used to say.

Good mornin’, Menage! Luckily, I don’t have to write down the recipe for the coffee. 😉

Good Morning, Tex. Good morning all,
That’s seems about the right size pot for today. All the crew seems to be in need of caffeine.
Soul cakes are a really ancient tradition.
“Soul Cakes are biscuit-like cakes that were once given out to children and poor people who went “souling” in Europe. They would visit the wealthier families on Halloween and offer to pray for their souls or to keep the malevolent spirits away in exchange for the baked goods. The practice dates back to the Medieval period and continued until the 1930’s in some parts of the country.
In the United States some churches celebrate Allhallowtide and invite people in to pray while handing our sweet treats.”

I’m contemplating making some this afternoon and giving them out tomorrow on All Soul’s Day, after Mass.

Good mornin’, czarina! That’s just too many to choose from this early in the morning. I might start with the calzone, I think.

Czarina,
What an assortment!
Cinnamon, today for me.
Hope your work day goes well.

I think I will just go with cinnamon today. Maybe toast and later some hot chocolate with cinnamon in it.

Happy All Hallow’s Day to all. United in the Body of Christ, we celebrate with our brethren in heaven, the Church Triumphant. And tomorrow, All Souls Day, we pray for all of us, that we may join them when our time comes.

This is me, exactly me. I can only bear to use a recipe if it’s a cake, or certain bread recipes. And most of those I’m converting to sourdough. My husband always used to tell the boys, when we had something they especially loved, too bad we can never have it again. I have maybe two exceptions to that, my apple muffins and my oxtail stew. I loved those so much that I immediately wrote down exactly what I did.

I know exactly what you’re talking about, this was how my mother cooked her meals all the time and we would say the same thing.

The funny thing is, my husband’s mother and grandmother taught me to cook, and oh how frustrated I used to get when they didn’t have recipes! I just could not imagine that. And they smiled.

It’s going to be real stressful this evening before I retire for the night. And that’s just in the kitchen, let alone the vehicles or other rooms in the house with a clock! 😀 😀 😀

We used to have digital clocks all over when the kids were growing up. On the VCR, microwave, coffee maker, and plus I liked a wall clock in my kitchen. One day my youngest son was proudly setting his watch we’d bought him for learning to tell time. He looked around in frustration at the clocks showing a minute or two difference and yelled “What is the correct national time?”
Ironically, we’ve taught his youngest son how to tell time these last few years. Gave him a watch too, which he lost immediately.
I relate. My oven and microwave have to be set, which I do, because they have a weird hard to remember way to do it. Husband is in charge of the coffeemaker.

This is both depressing and informative. Don’t know what we can do about it.

Afternoon All. Woke up late again. I used to have insomnia and now can’t seem to wake up. 🙄 It is 40* out right now. They are forecasting rain all afternoon. I guess the temps are going to drop some more after that. I am having to put on socks now.
Enjoy the day. And, sorry about the time change. I keep hoping Congress will stop it.

Afternoon mom! I think the answer to the time change is the way our pets approach it. Pretty much ignore it. Live with the sun.
