Good mornin’, Lucille! Just like grandma’s house, except no plastic cover on the sofa! Coffee’s ready, ma’am.

Good morning, Texan! My maternal grandmother’s decorating was along Japanese lines. No clutter, no plastic, though she did have a dial telephone made of an early plastic called Bakelite (selling for several hundred dollars on Etsy). Plus her Japanese pottery housed various snake plants…
On the other hand, my paternal grandmother had toys, and knick-knacks and huge collections of buttons of every type and national origin (lots of Confederate Army uniform metal) which she mounted and framed for the 10-foot high living room walls. It was like walking into a well-lived in museum.

Somehow my greeting to you ended downline. Too early to pay attention apparently.

Good mornin’, and happy Monday! No doubt we’re going to have a colorful week, and it appears that we all made it through another made up protest “march”. Might as well have some coffee to get our engines revved up. Something a little different. A contemporary design with a nod to something a bit older. Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee!

Good morning, Menagerie. Now your only decision is to have a day of rest or a day of doing all the things you won’t have time for tomorrow on out.

Afternoon Lucille. I’m hoping this one goes through. WordPress ate my message to ernn, unless I messed up. Entirely possible!

National School Bus Safety Week
World Statistics Day
National Day on Writing – We all have experience writing, even if you don’t think you’re “good” at it. We use it to express our thoughts, our ideas, and to record information into a readable format. Whether you are a professional writer, someone who types all day behind a keyboard, or someone expressing yourself through poetry, writing is a way to record language across time and space. National Day on Writing® gives people around the world an opportunity to sit down and write.
National Youth Confidence Day
National Clean Your Virtual Desktop Day – gets ahead of you, doesn’t it
National Brandied Fruit Day – yeah, it’s a way to preserve fruit, but how many people just drink the brandy?

I wish more people had writing skills. Read Facebook and X content, and it’s rare to see people who can compose a basic sentence well. Indeed, many write a paragraph that never has a period.
About ten years ago, someone from my old high school connected with me on Facebook. She used to always put two periods between sentences. I was never sure if she was addicted to ellipsis but just did them wrong, or thought she was cute with periods. Thankfully, she’s improved her writing skills, which shows that people can learn to improve with engagement.

Morning Menagerie! I think part of the problem with writing skills is that they aren’t emphasized or taught well in school.
When my DD was in high school, one of her teachers actually said that spelling correctly wasn’t important. I told her that it was important in my house, and she should use the dictionary to find the correct spelling if she wasn’t sure. Today she writes beautifully, and spells everything correctly.
It used to be that teachers took points off essays and tests if words were spelled incorrectly, and it wasn’t just the English teachers. I can also remember learning to diagram sentences in about eighth grade, and learning all about the parts of speech. I wonder if they still teach that?

I wonder also. We are deep into nouns and verbs, of course, and last year briefly went into adjectives. And I teach Conner how to use the dictionary. I often make him use it when writing sentences for practice, or the one page papers I have him do.
A few weeks ago I had him write his first book report, which went well, I thought. Except I forgot the autism factor.
I carefully explained what a book report was, and was not. For example, paint with a broad brush, do not tell me just one specific thing. And then I explained how a paper would have a beginning, middle, and end.
He labeled the sections. Beginning. Middle. End.

They don’t even teach them to read, now, so I’d venture to say “no.”

Well, to be honest, they didn’t teach mine to read either. I did.

LOL. Very often I have to go back to take out the second period because, for some reason, my finger tends to stutter when hitting the period.

Good day, Czarina! Everything goes into folders at the end of a computer day. It’s the cleaning out of the folders which takes time. What to save, what to keep filed.
Writing is fun but it takes discipline, though, perhaps, not the type of discipline of Hemingway who wrote at the same time every day. When his allotted time was up, he quit until the next day.

Stella, I am going to go to the only apple orchard around here later and get me some apples, some I’ll ferment thanks to you. Sadly, this is the last season they’ll be open. They’re up on one of the local mountains, taken over by the wealthy new money yuppie crew. I suspect the orchard will soon be McMansions, sadly.

Afternoon All. Mostly sunny today and I am disappointed that it only rained a little yesterday and it doesn’t look like we will get any more. 😦 It is in the 40’s and won’t get much higher today. But, who knows, that could all change in an instant. 🙄
Hope this week goes well for all.
