Good day, Texan! I was a tomboy; so this appeals to me, too. Remember steelies, cats eyes, swirlies, aggies and puries? I’ll bring a bag of marbles over for coffee time this afternoon.

I was never a big marble player, but had a bag when I was a kid. I lost it frequently! 😀

Hi Lucille, don’t think I’ve ever seen one of his paintings I didn’t like.

Hi, Menagerie! He really was a master realism painter. It’s been said that hands are most difficult to render for an artist. Check out his subjects’ hands. Simply superbly proportioned. Unless the subject is a dog and then the paws are truly fine, too…LOL!

Good mornin’, and happy Friday! They may have passed a bill, but I still don’t understand crypto!! Got the combo coffee maker machine this morning as everyone is in a hurry to close out the week! Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee.

Morning everyone, happy Friday.
I found this interesting story on Quora, someone shared it there, but I don’t know the original source. There was a picture of a number of people and an elderly man in a wheelchair, which I assume was him. Googled it, and it is true. I’d never heard of this.
András Toma was the last known prisoner of war from World War II. He wasn’t released until the year 2000. Toma had served in the Royal Hungarian Army, and on January 11, 1945, he was captured by the Russian Red Army.
In January 1947, he was moved from a prison camp to a mental hospital in Russia. Because people in hospitals were no longer listed as prisoners of war, Hungary lost track of him. They thought he had died and officially declared him dead in 1954.
It wasn’t until August 11, 2000, that a Czech language expert heard him speaking in the hospital and realized he was Hungarian. Since Toma had never learned to speak Russian, and no one at the hospital spoke Hungarian, it seems he hadn’t had a real conversation with anyone in more than 50 years.
Toma was brought back to Hungary. DNA tests helped find his family, and they welcomed him home. Since he had never been officially released from the army, the Hungarian Minister of Defense promoted him to sergeant major and gave him all the money he had earned over the years.
Toma was 74 years old when he came home. He went to live with his half-sister, Anna, who took care of him until he passed away in 2004.

I’m speechless…….and that’s hard to do. Thanks for giving me a new rabbit hole! 😉

Wow, that made me burst into tears. Never having a normal life from the time of his capture until he was repatriated. No wife, no children, no ability to communicate, no one bothering to teach him the Russian language.
A USSR mental hospital was a horrible place which would drive folks nuts on its own. Most citizens put in them were actually political prisoners and treated without mercy.
Here’s his photo….
And an article with more heartbreaking info….

Mornin’ All. Beautiful out, a little cool, but sunny. No rain in the forecast so far. Still working on getting rid of “stuff”.
Hope you all have a nice day.

National Sour Candy Day – nope. Candy is supposed to be sweet.
National Caviar Day – kinda like this but don’t buy it, and only see it on buffet tables
National Tropical Fruit Day – they make life more lively! Like Carmen Miranda dancing with fruit on her head

Morning czarina! I’ll go with the tropical fruit. I have been buying pineapples from Costco lately. About $3.50 for a huge fruit that yields 2 quarts of cubed pineapple. That’s a deal.

ADD: Just checked. $3.39 in my last order, and that’s the delivered price.

Good day, Czarina! Some “national” days have a whole bunch of things to like. Today’s offerings not so much seeing as none are favorites, although the tropical fruit might be OK if everything is fresh and not the awful canned varieties, the likes of which were ever-present at the summer church picnics…LOL!
