Good mornin’, and happy Friday. I’m up a little late so I thought I would get the coffee going a little early. In honor of POTUS’s visit to the Middle East, here’s one mor coffee maker from that neck of the woods. Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee!

Terrible loss up the river yesterday. One of the great plantation houses caught fire and burned . It had been restored and had fire suppression methods built in, too.

Have learned some very devastating news
Nottoway Plantation built in 1859 south of Baton Rouge in Louisiana has burned down and is competely lost….. I had the pleasure of staying there a number of years back…. Just heartbreaking….💔
There are a few photos of Nottoway as I remember it and the room we have stayed in….
Sad day as part of American history is gone…

It IS terrible – one of the few that had been restored, too. Mornin’ Czarina.

I love touring those old plantation houses. When we lived in Kingsland/St. Marys, GA, I went through Orange Hall so many times.

Such a shame. Houses don’t have political views but arsonists do. At any rate, those lovely big houses in “Gone With the Wind” style were the exception, not the rule for plantation living. That’s why they were so valued historically.

Though I’ve never fully checked the facts, I was told by family members that plantations for the majority of owners were not hugely profitable seeing as expenses were high. It probably would have been cheaper to have regularly-hired field workers.

As it was, plantations were a season-to-season existence enabled by bank loans. Thus many typical houses were one level above ground with a basement for staple and wine storage. As properties were sold off piecemeal by the banks after the civil war, likely few if any one-story houses are left.

    National Barbecue Day – yaaaaay!

National Coquille St Jacques Day – no scallops around here, so the Gulf Coast doesn’t have these on the menu.

    National Malcolm X Day

National Classic Movie Day – 50th anniversary of Jaws this suer…it that classic enough?

National Do Something Good for Your Neighbor Day

National Mimosa Day – I think of these for breakfast or brunch, especially at Bennan’s or Commander’s Palace

Mornin’ czarina! Love barbecue, but I also love scallops. An old movie tonight sounds like a good idea.

      Good day, Czarina!

THE GREAT ESCAPE is my movie recommendation for daytime viewing after your barbecue party. It’s a very good copy…

Here’s a Humphrey Bogart black/white classic. It’s also a good copy but viewing for nighttime so you can cry into your pillow…

I thought perhaps YouTube would block it. It’s supposed to be free to watch; so just click on the “Watch on YouTube” notice to get a whole lot of viewing pleasure.

Mornin’ All. It is very chilly and overcast here. It wouldn’t surprise me if it rained again. It was so chilly last night I had to put my comforter back on the bed. Niiiiiice! You don’t know how much I enjoy these cool nights.

Please say a little prayer for strength for my friend whose niece died in a car wreck last week. She is going to the memorial service today and is taking it all very hard. She has to drive over an hour each way to the venue, so I am concerned about her.

Well, hope you all have a nice day.

Former National Guardsman Arrested in Foiled ISIS-Linked Attack at Michigan Base

A 19-year-old former Michigan Army National Guardsman was arrested on May 13 after he attempted to carry out a plan for a mass shooting at a U.S. military base in Warren, Michigan, on behalf of ISIS, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The DOJ announced in a statement that Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said, of Melvindale, a community near Dearborn, has been charged with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and distributing information related to a destructive device.

“The arrest of this former soldier is a sobering reminder of the importance of our counterintelligence efforts to identify and disrupt those who would seek to harm our nation,” said Brig. Gen. Rhett R. Cox, the commanding general of the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Command.

“We urge all soldiers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to their chain of command, as the safety and security of our Army and our nation depends on our collective efforts to prevent insider threats.”

According to the criminal complaint, Said allegedly informed two undercover law enforcement officers of the plan he had concocted to conduct a mass shooting at the U.S. Army’s Tank-Automotive & Armaments Command (TACOM) facility at the Detroit Arsenal.

Last month, the two undercover officers indicated to Said that they intended to carry out his plan at the direction of ISIS.

Officials said that he then provided “armor-piercing ammunition and magazines for the attack, flying his drone over TACOM to conduct operational reconnaissance, training the undercover employees on firearms and the construction of Molotov cocktails for use during the attack, and planning numerous details of the attack including how to enter TACOM and which building to target.”

Said was arrested after he had traveled to an area near TACOM and allegedly launched his drone in support of the planned attack, attempting to carry out his plan on the same day he was arrested.

I was out and about all dday, hearing it on the radio, but 10 mostly murderers escaped after the midnight check and were not noticed until the 8:30 count. The Sheriff was told at 9:30 a.m., and she did not tell any other law enforcement agency until nearly 10:30. Needless to say the Police, state police,US Marshals and everybody else is REALLY angry. Caught one at 10:30, none since. For more info, if you want it, go to NOLA.COM.

I am an hour and a half drive from NO, and probably safe, although I was outside for an hour this morning doing some work with my mower and ATV. Armed, of course.

The law enforcement that didn’t put out an immediate APB should lose their jobs.

Besides carrying, you might also post Gator notices whether there are any around or not. Are there poisonous snakes or blue-green algae anywhere nearby? This is assuming these murderers can read English. You might have to post notices in a couple of languages.
