Hm?! At the risk of being called racist it seems this should be the other way around.

Asher Perleman is a cartoonist for the New Yorker. He is also a staff writer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. His cartoons are said to express “the awkwardness of modern life.” This cartoon is beyond “awkward”.

He may well be showing a political bias, but he is also illustrating the real awkwardness of life in Great Britain at this point. No one would actually be able to publish such a cartoon there with the characters reversed without great backlash, if indeed they were able to publish a cartoon such as this at all.

Does he share that same blindness? I don’t know. But he should realize that his work would not be printed there, and be thankful.

The awful part is, if one would care to think it, is that the “average” white British male is “putting the knife” unjustly to the immigrant population. That has a certain distasteful and arrogant twist to it.

But that kind of reasoning is a part of the “Late Show” kind of “humor”. It’s mean-spirited at its heart.
