Eggs in rural MS were down $3 from two weeks ago: $4.29 from $7. Gas is $2.45.

Although NPR reported New Yorkers in the city were paying $18 for a dozen.

Morning czarina. We haven’t yet seen a decrease in egg prices. Lowest I see is over $4 a dozen, at Kroger. Maybe our prices weren’t as high as yours were.

We may see some egg price reductions close to Easter. It’s traditional, but not guaranteed.

It depends on the number of local suppliers and how much their flocks were impacted by the “kill offs” due to the presence of avian flu.

Spring naturally brings a greater egg supply from the hens, but you must have hens of egg-laying age to produce them.

Prices have increased also because the cost of keeping chickens (fuel and feed) has risen. Until those costs decrease, egg prices will remain higher than they once were.

No bad weather yesterday, humid and warm. It has been windy and grey, some sun, with predictions for bad storms this weekend.

Boy, was I wrong. I took a short nap and when I woke up an went to the window, there is a good 2 or 3 inches of snow on the ground and it is still snowing. And, the sun is shining. Okay, I heard the weather here can be weird and unexpected. LOL

The latest from Mrs. Dr. Publius is below. I don’t think America can ever get past its history of racism unless we all follow her example:

“Many African-Americans can recall the first time they were called the N-word. That first time it happens, you never forget. I’d like to share a story.

With parents who both attended segregated schools all of their own lives, the parents of a 6 year-old black girl made some specific decisions about child rearing during the Civil Rights Movement in America. Being the first black family living in a quiet, all-white neighborhood in a small town in California, this young black family found most people very welcoming. A 6 year-old black girl was invited to a neighbor’s 6 year-old birthday party. All was well until a 6 year-old boy stated “I’m not eating any birthday cake with a N-word” while glaring at the black girl. It’s curious because what struck the little black girl wasn’t his verbal assault as much as his visceral response. The young male guest was red in the face, breathing deeply and visibly angry. The host was mortified –she demanded the little boy apologize.

The little black girl went home and asked her mother what the N-word meant. This was the little girl’s first discussion about racism with her mother. Years later, her mother shared how she cried that night over the attack on her child’s innocence at 6 years-old. But the story continues–this 6 year-old black girl thought about this incident for a long time. She knew she couldn’t change her skin color (not that she wanted to) so she decided it wasn’t her problem–she concentrated on being a good person. She decided “his feelings” about her should not affect how she felt about him or herself. Imagine–a 6 year old figured out something some people never learn. Facing racism in all its forms should not lend itself to the poor excuse to believe one is justified in becoming a racist.

By the way, the little boy never called the girl the N word again and by 3rd grade he always picked her to be on his kickball team at recess. Dr. King was correct–it is your character, not the color of your skin. Many people have forgotten this.

The 6 year old girl was me.”
