    This day in history….

1922:  Ernest Shackleton, Antarctic Explorer and captain of the lost Endurance dies of heart attack in Grytviken, South Georgia.

The story of his and his men’s survival after the sinking of the Endurance is nothing short of phenomenal.

Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance: Ship found in Antarctic 107 years after it sank in 1915.

1931:  Robert Duvall born in San Diego, California. At the 1984 Oscars, he won Best Actor for TENDER MERCIES. As you likely know, Duvall sang his character’s songs in this film.

1933:  Construction began on the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge.  The bridge was completed on April 19, 1937 at a cost of $35 million.

Good mornin’ and Happy Sunday! 15 days until we get some sanity, so we might as well drink! Here’s a Sunday urn with a different look. Keep your head on a swivel and carpe’ your coffee!

Our Favorite Sundy Columnist has some thoughts on the first week of the year. And quite a busy week it was. Two major incidents on our soil where the Eff-Bee-Eye has continued to beclown themselves, along with what appears to be a doctored “video” of the “pipe-bomber”. Palace intrigue in Congress, and lots of things going on around the globe.

National Bird Day – indoor birds don’t seem to be a thing anymore. But we can celebrate indoor and outdoor birds.

National Whipped Cream Day – good stuff

National Screenwriters’ Day – didn’t they strike a while back?

National Keto Day – not my kind of diet

Morning, czarina. My dad loved indoor birds, particularly parakeets.

      I like whipped cream.

Hooray for coffee. Hooray for whipped cream in coffee.

And celebrating Christmas for at least 12 days.

Also, Little Christmas, and Orthodox Christmas on January 7.

Or regarding Christmas, party like Henry VIII! (That could be a slippery slope, considering his other habits.)

Good day, Czarina! Most assuredly a big YES to birdies of all types….

A man fed a crested caracara daily until…

Of course real whipped cream is the cat’s meow! Which likely isn’t allowed on the Keto Diet.

Screenwriters often act aggrieved and grumble about no respect. Directors and actors get all the glory, but there’d be no film without a script.

I worked for two screenwriters when first employed at Universal Studios. Great fun in the days before office computers and the Internet when the writers would assign research to their support staff and you got to bask in light of their praise when you turned something in which was of use after spending hours in the library. The good old days!

I’m sure many here remember the vaunted snail darter fish that somewhat kicked off modern-day environmentalism as we know it. Guess what? The fish never was, and never has been an endangered species. It was not properly identified back then. I guess this means we can dismantle all the things created from this???

I hope I managed to lift her spirit🙌😇

This young man from Latvia rides the trains and usually brings his table and various foods and drinks to entertain pretty girls onboard. This time he chose an older woman who likely was tired from a day of hard work. It’s endearing that he brought a smile to her face.

Bourbon Street Massacre Is What ‘Globalize the Intifada’ Looks Like

Political elites have deluded themselves into thinking that the existential threat posed by radical Islamic jihad was somehow limited or contained.

    By Josh Hammer – January 3, 2025

As woke illiberalism replaced live-and-let-live liberalism as the animating ideology of the American Left, the state of Israel has increasingly found itself on the outs. Never mind that modern Israel was founded by, and for three decades politically dominated by, a bunch of left-wing socialists. Never mind that Harry Truman, an iconic liberal Democratic president, became the first world leader to recognize the fledgling Jewish state a mere 11 minutes after it announced its independence in 1948. None of that history matters on the Left anymore, after wokeism supplanted liberalism.
