Matt Gaetz WITHDRAWS from consideration to be Trump’s attorney general

Gaetz announced his  decision on social media.

DAILY MAIL

‘I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback – and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance,’ he wrote on X.

‘There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1,’ he noted.

Gaetz was on Capitol Hill on Wednesday to meet with senators about his nomination. Many had privately expressed concerns about whether he could be confirmed due to the ethics investigation about allegations of drug uses, sex parties and sex with a minor.

He has already resigned from the House of Representatives for this term but was re-elected to the Congress that is sworn into office on January 3rd. He will return as a lawmaker.
