Good morning all. Back to the schoolroom for me today. After time off with my husband, and a week of fall break, we crack the books again, and I look forward to it.

What wonderful, awe filled days God has given me, late in life, helping one little boy with an unusual autistic mind find his path to learning. The Lord gives good gifts!

    Happy Monday!

As T would say, carpe your coffee and keep your head on a swivel!

A short from Justin Rhodes. On top of the hurricane clean up, his mother-in-law is in the final stages of ALS. They have moved her to a hospice facility where her physical needs can be seen to 24 hrs a day, and Justin’s wife, Rebecca, spends most of every day there. Lots of sadness.

Hi czarina! I love apples, and so does Tucker. I add apples and onions to my sauerkraut (and a bit of cider). Pumpkin cheesecake sounds yummy, but I think I should stay away from that.

        Stella,

Do you have a good recipe for sauerkraut with apples and onions?

It’s delicious, but I’ve never been able to duplicate the right balance of ingredients that make it taste so good.

First of all, drain your sauerkraut (large jar or bag) and press out most of the moisture. You don’t have to rinse it. I don’t measure anything, but I put the sauerkraut in a pan, add a bit (1/4 cup?) apple cider vinegar and about 1/3 of brown sugar, an apple chunked up (I leave the skin on) and an onion that is chunked up. I also add some caraway seed and maybe a cup of real apple cider. The longer you cook the mixture, the better it will be. I usually bake mine, covered, with either sliced sausages or browned chunks of fresh pork shoulder, but you don’t have to.

Here is an alternative recipe (I have made it this way):

It seems like a lot of caraway seed, but cooked that long it mellows out.

Good day, Czarina! Yes to the pumpkin cheesecake and apples, of course. Though BACK TO THE FUTURE was a clever film, don’t see any reason to give it a special day.

My Mom used witch hazel but I’ve never bought any. And cleaning out my desktop and emails MUST be done. Trying to get up the gumption is the challenge.

This gecko looks like a sweetie. He’s happy to have a day celebrating reptiles….

        That’s a keeper, Lucille.

No wonder Geico uses a gecko (other than the similar-sounding name).

        Talented photographer, too.

You have an eye for distinctive photographs.

    Why the turning on Americans?

Have you heard of DOD Directive 5240.01? Does it authorize the military to turn on American citizens? I’m looking into it. Here it is:

This “policy” should scare the crap out of everyone. Authorizing Military Use of force AGAINST the American public. At the end of September, very quietly, DoD amended the directive from what it has always been. We can only hope that the soldiers in those uniforms refuse “unlawful” (there is a difference between a directive and a law) orders as they are sworn to do.
