Hopelessly trapped at Yorktown, Virginia, British General Lord Cornwallis surrenders 8,000 British soldiers and seamen to a larger Franco-American force on October 19, 1781, effectively bringing an end to the American Revolution.

[. . .] Although the war persisted on the high seas and in other theaters, the Patriot victory at Yorktown effectively ended fighting in the American colonies. Peace negotiations began in 1782, and on September 3, 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed, formally recognizing the United States as a free and independent nation after eight years of war.

Good mornin’, kids! We made it to cartoons again! The only difference today is that it’s on the “news” instead of Bugs Bunny and Road Runner. They call themselves politicians nowadays. Have you noticed that we haven’t had anyone call themselves a statesman in a long, long time? Here’s a sweet little plated-silver urn made by Reed & Barton. I think I have some flatware made by these guys. I don’t get to use it, but I do get to look at it once in a while. Keep your head on a swivel, y’all, and Carpe your Coffee!

    National Seafood Month

    National Seafood Bisque Day

National Whole Hog Barbecue Day – I’ll always show up for this

    National Kentucky Day

National Sweetest Day – encourages everyone to be generous even in the smallest ways. From its inception as Candy Day in 1916, this day reminds us that even small tokens improve the lives of those around us. While the observance started with candy and sweets given to our sweethearts and friends, the day is full of lessons in persistence, resilience, and doing small things greatly.

afternoon all. cold and heavily overcast today. my heat ran a lot last night. Loki insisted on sleeping on my bed last night. she must have gotten cold the night before. I haven’t put her extra covers down yet. guess I will do that today.

went to a massage therapist yesterday and really liked her. I think it may help me heal. she was very good.

well, hope you are all safe and warm (that is a joke for those of you down south). my friend went to a resort in fl and they had the air conditioner set at 60* and she couldn’t change it. I am afraid she will probably be sick now.

Started at Yoder’s Amish Farm today, with tour of a barn with the chickens, goats, sheep and horses, then a carriage ride, a lesson at the schoolroom, and tours of two houses ( one more spare than the other, as that would be how the people still live who prefer to be more “plain”).

Next we went to a marketplace with a variety of crafts, a pumpkin patch, buggy rides, food, animal petting zoo, and lots of families. They buy and eat a lot of pie around here.

Yes, as wild creatures they can be a pain in the neck getting into stuff around your property, but they can also be adorably sweet pets. Glad they found this little buddy in time….

    Lucille,

They are cute when little. Clever too. Outdoors they serve a purpose.

They are not suitable as indoor pets. It’s not fair to them and they become troublesome. They need to be viewed as a wild animal, because ultimately, they are. Adult males can be dangerous.

“Trash pandas.” describes their urban habits. They are also significant carriers of rabies.

Not a wise decision to try to make them indoor pets, no matter how beguiling they may be as a kit.
