On October 18, 1867, the U.S. formally takes possession of Alaska after purchasing the territory from Russia for $7.2 million, or less than two cents an acre. Indigenous peoples had settled the unforgiving territory thousands of years earlier. The Alaska purchase comprised 586,412 square miles, about twice the size of Texas, and was championed by William Henry Seward, the enthusiastically expansionist secretary of state under President Andrew Johnson.

Good mornin’, and Happy Friday! The chirping on the interwebz is becoming deafening. One would get the impression that our guy whom we have chosen to bring us out from the wilderness is ready to be placed in an insane asylum, or the old-folks home. I for one, can’t wait to see him throw some fries. This little gem is an early electric percolator urn. Looks like a glass holding tank. Not real pretty, but in it’s own little way. Keep your eyes peeled and your head on a swivel. Carpe your coffee and we’re heading to the weekend!

This is a perfect example of the ineptitude of government. Fire station (in Germany) burns down because they didn’t have any fire alarms in the new building. Doesn’t matter the Country. They’re all inept or corrupt. Take your pick.

Mornin’ all ya’all! After the boat ride we were turned loose to sight see or shop all afternoon. My preference was to watch the falls for hours. Dinner was in a high tower with a great view, including of the harvest moon rising. His morning the falls weee till falling, and I had breakfast with a view of the river and the falls, and the sun rise. Excelllent.

Started off with Customs, to permit return to the States. He asked what country I was a citizen of, and if I spent any money in Canada. I was immediately dismissed as uninteresting. Driving through Buffalo NY, which is where my college roommate and BFF was born, as her father was a lifelong ICE agent.

      Good afternoon Czarina,

Just for fun I looked up the difference between a “coach” and a bus.

Each is purpose-built, and there are differences.

Buses for shorter rides, motorcoaches for longer trips. And since they’re built for different purposes, buses tend to be less luxurious, with fewer amenities. Coaches usually have a restroom, better seats, and a more comfortable ride.

The best comment I read was ” A coach is a bus that went to charm school.”

I don’t have time to sit through the entire podcast, but this snippet from Mark Halperin and Tucker (Carlson), not the dog is pretty funny, IMO. He says there will be total meltdowns. I’m just hoping for some Hollyweird’s to leave.

    Good afternoon, all,

Stella summed up today’s posts so well with the phrase, “Morally and actually bankrupt.”

That firehouse was built with public funds. What’s 26 million (US$) or so?

Repugnant letters sent to frighten voters? Why would a real neighbor use the mail? Any fingerprints?

Tex, your admonitions are well placed. The biggest line is always at the coffee machine!
