On October 16, 1923, Walt Disney and his brother Roy found the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio in Hollywood, California. The studio, now known as the Walt Disney Company, has had an oversized impact on the entertainment industry and is now one of the largest media companies in the world.
A talented artist from a young age, Walt Disney drew cartoons for various publications and became interested in cel animation while working for the Kansas City Film Ad Company.
After his Laugh-O-Gram Studio went bankrupt in 1923, Walt moved to Los Angeles, where Roy was recovering from tuberculosis. While there, he finally sold a short film produced by Laugh-O-Gram, Alice’s Wonderland, and signed a contract to make six more such films. In order to produce the series, the brothers founded their company and persuaded both Virginia Davis, who played Alice, and their collaborator Ub Iwerks to join them in Hollywood.

Stellars….
What Hollywood looked like in 1923…
Walt stands in front of his uncle Robert’s Silver Lake garage. Thanks to the work completed here, Walt and Roy would soon acquire their first official west coast studio less than a quarter of a mile away on Kingswell Avenue!
Virginia’s father…Walt Disney…Virginia Davis…Roy O. Disney film a live-action sequence on a vacant lot at Rodney and Hollywood Boulevard. The space cost the Disney Brothers $10 a day, and was just a short distance from their Kingswell Avenue studio. It was used for several live action portions from Alice Hunting in Africa and Alice the Jailbird (pictured).

Good mornin’, Lucille! It was such a simpler time back then. Coffee’s ready.

Good day to you, Texan! Simpler and perhaps more innocent in lots of ways. And certainly less crowded.

Having done a multi-year battle with Canadian thistle in my flower beds, their beauty evades me. By the way, I eventually won the battle when I found the right weed killer.

Good mornin’, kids! We’re halfway through the week, and it does in fact just get crazier and crazier. It should be fun tonight as the Cackler sits down with someone at least halfway fair to our way of life. We can hope he tries to play it down the middle. In the meantime, we need coffee. Lots of it. I think this set was called the Four Bears. You find the one that’s “just right” for you! Keep your head on a swivel and Carpe your Coffee!

More caca on the Eff-Bee-Eye and their partners-in-cr*me at the You-Ess-Ess-Ess and some more of their failings and behind the scenes shenanigans regarding DJT. Both institutions are near, or maybe past the point where they need to be torn down and begun again.

Since I hit my big number a few weeks ago, I have been practicing my big Clint Eastwood “get off my lawn” speech every day. I aspire to that level. But this is good!

Yes! As we age (gracefully or not) we learn to hate pretty much everything and everybody!

Good afternoon, Czarina! I’ll celebrate the department stores of yesteryear. Here’s my favorite in all of California…Bullock’s Wilshire. A friend and I had lunch there the week before they closed for good. Check out the glory that was L.A. Makes me weep.

Despicable! Comma-La has no moral moorings whatsoever. A totally lost individual with not the slightest thought of making a turnaround in life. God bless all those who pray for her repentance. Admittedly I’m not one of them.
“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.” – Matthew 5:44 – Jesus Christ’s most difficult command from His “Sermon On the Mount.”
