Happy Mardi Gras to all ya’all and yo mama!

Before she came to Fat Tuesday, my mother thought Mardi Gras was a pagan ritual & she was disdainful. After she attended one she understood it is a party put on by the local people with money and powerful to debut their daughters and show off their wealth. And the rest of us just attend for the bread (king cake) and circuses.

times change. Now the men call for a view of something higher up. Also, the type of beads thrown has improved significantly since I arrived in 1982. Used to be people would beg for, and perform for, small strands of cheap plastic beads. In the intervening years the length and quality has improved, and the trinkets and size of ornamentation on the “pair of beads” has become bigger. Also, illuminated beads showed up. You can beg for beads (“throw me something mister”) hold up your small child to get a stuffed animal or toy, or offer views of upper chest on a woman to get “good beads”.

            Czarina,

Yes, they do. And that seems to be the only constant.

Thank you for the background information regarding the average attendee at Mardi Gras.

Wish it were always as innocent as you describe.

“Bread and circuses” is an apt description.

            Sometimes “masses” turn into -asses.

Especially when fueled by alcohol and other substances.

            Sorry to say.

Then no one has a “good time”.

I think it helps to know a local to know the how, what, when and where of Mardi Gras or any like gathering.

Well, it looks as though the usual R suspects helped the Senate pass another sh*tty Ukraine aid bill. This is the one the media won’t tell you that has the poison pill in it for anyone who follows FJB into office next January, that if they stop the Ukraine aid, it’s an impeachable offense.

There is a theme here, and it is eat, drink and be merry.

    National Cheddar Day

    National Paczki Day

    National Pancake Day

    National Tortellini Day

    Fastnacht – German Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras – celebrate traditionally or invent something you find fun and festive. Eat. Tomorrow we fast.

Galentine’s Day – The festivities include women of all walks of life, kicking back, and enjoying being women! The day celebrates successes and overcoming failures and brings women, ladies, and girls together for a good old-fashioned session to drink, eat, talk, and celebrate each other.

Afternoon All. I don’t know what happened but I woke up expecting another layer of snow to find the snow melted off the sidewalks and driveway. We have been hovering around 33* for the past few days, so I guess the concrete had time to “warm?” up. It started snowing while we were on our morning walk, but just lightly. Guess it is still winter,

Prayers for our country. It sometimes seems like each day the news is “we are standing in quicksand.” Hopefully enough people will realize that we need to get out.
