Have a fine winter art Friday, Stellars….
“Sugaring Off” (1955) by Grandma Moses…

“What a strange thing is memory, and hope; one looks backward, the other forward. The one is of today, the other is of tomorrow. Memory is history recorded in our brain, memory is a painter, it paints pictures of the past and of the day.” – Anna Mary Robertson (Grandma Moses) 1860-1961
“Landscape In the Snow” (1888) by Vincent van Gogh…

“One may have a blazing hearth in one’s soul and yet no one ever came to sit by it. Passers-by see only a wisp of smoke from the chimney and continue on their way.” – Vincent Van Gogh 1853-1890
“Olympic Mountain Evening” (2002) by Thomas Kinkade

“High culture is paranoid about sentiment, but human beings are intensely sentimental. And if art doesn’t speak language that’s acceptable to people, it relegates itself to obscurity.” Thomas Kinkade 1958-2012
“Road to Versailles at Louveciennes (The Snow Effect),” (1869) by Camille Pissarro

“Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing.” – Camille Pissarro 1830-1903

Thanks, Czarina! Collectors of quotes…runs in my family.
When I was cleaning out my father’s possessions, I found bundles of quotes and factoids he’d cut out of newspapers and magazines. Outwardly he didn’t seem a particularly sentimental man, but inwardly was something else.
Another thing that strikes me now but never thought about it when I was a kid is that he had the most beautiful handwriting. It looks like calligraphy.

I love old, time-tested quotes:
“The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter. ’tis the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.”
― Mark Twain

Add another “like” from me, Lucille.
Beautiful handwriting is a work of art, and increasingly rare. It requires a lot of discipline and talent.
Such a sweet memory of your father. You never know what may be hidden in someone’s soul.

Thanks, Reflection! Penmanship was very much a part of the everyday school curriculum in our fathers’ days.

I’m working on conditioning us to this vile human because we will likely have to listen to her screeds for the next several months as we know she’ll be trotted out to tell us how wonderful Brain-Freeze, or the Mooch will be for the next four years.

This will not come as a great surprise to many of us here as we’ve been subjected to their brilliance far too much lately. Study shows average college undergrad IQ has fallen almost 15% since they began tracking.

I’d be willing to wager that it’s fallen that much since just 2006.

8 Reasons The IQ Is Meaningless
By FlameHorse – Posted May 19, 2013
The average person has an intelligence quotient of 100. An unsourced claim gives O. J. Simpson’s IQ as 89. Marilyn vos Savant has been cited in the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest measured IQ of 228, a number that can be sourced back to…Marilyn vos Savant. But Savant’s gifts to mankind’s progress include a “Dear Abby” style newspaper column, and a few books mostly compiled from this column. Here are eight reasons why your IQ really doesn’t matter all that much.
https://listverse.com/2013/05/19/8-reasons-the-iq-is-meaningless/#
—————-
One of my best friends was placed in a special group to be interviewed and monitored over the college years because of her high score on our timed college entrance exams. In those days you took the tests cold. The “study and cram” industry to help students pass the tests wasn’t yet in full bloom. So, you either knew the answers or were able to deduct them, or you didn’t. My friend got terrific grades, was on the Dean’s List and made a great success of her college years.
The fellow she eventually married was also in our class and he barely made the lowest rung. Yet he had “native practical intelligence” where he could fix anything…knew all about firearms, clocks, cars, building houses–wiring and plumbing them, setting concrete, laying brick. He took no classes to learn any of this. He merely watched others performing such tasks and remembered what he saw and even made up a few easier ways to accomplish the goals.
So I’m inclined to agree with the “IQ is meaningless” school because that’s pretty-much what I’ve observed over the years.

I don’t think it matters that much if you are within the “normal” range. If you are far below or above average, the chances are that it does matter.

So it’s a day to take your spouse to work, introduce him or her to the Big Wigs, and serve green juice plus peanut brittle for the afternoon snack time. All the while having fun ignoring your workload.

Afternoon All. It is almost 40* now. Yesterday the thermometer on my patio which faces sort of West got up to 51* in the late afternoon. Of course, as soon as the sun went down, the temp dropped like a rock. Still not a below zero temp. 🙂
I believe DEI may have hit close to home. My friend has been having trouble getting her medications. She used to get most of them by mail, but her insurance changed and she has to go pick them up. Now, several years later she is having to call the doctor’s office multiple times to get her prescriptions refilled and they are wrong when she picks them up. Turns out that the PA at her doctor’s office had to leave to take care of an ailing parent. He was so kind, compassionate, and efficient and always got her prescriptions right. Whoever they hired to replace him can’t seem to get anything right. She finally called and talked to the doctor, no easy feat, and hopefully things will get better. I would bet my money on a DEI hire.
Hope there are no DEI hires in your orbit.

The way I order refills is with my online account with the doctor/hospital. There is no question what I ordered, and apparently whoever makes the magic happen is doing a good job. The alternative is to have the pharmacy contact the doctor’s office. Possibly your friend could try that? The pharmacy isn’t likely going to get the prescriptions wrong.

Believe me, she is very experienced in getting her prescriptions. She has this really awful insurance and they won’t give her a three month prescription for some of her most needed prescriptions and she can’t get them to link them so that they all come due at the same time. But, the worst of the problem was having to go through the doctor’s office. Even the pharmacy calling couldn’t get through and then often the prescription was wrong. It is all pretty complicated. One problem she had was a prescription that she was supposed to take two a day and they only gave her enough for one a day and the pharmacy couldn’t give her any more because they could only fill a prescription for one month, so she was going to run out before the month was up.
This all came to a head because she was having to go 2 or 3 times to the pharmacy to get things corrected and now she has broken toes on the right foot and can’t drive. I am glad she spoke to the doctor. I think she didn’t know how bad this was. I imagine my friend is not the only one having problems, but maybe one of the most persistent patients the doctor has.

I hope your friend can get it straightened out. That’s very distressing.

I do, too. The last two weeks have been terrible for her. I am going to help her get set up for deliveries from Publix, which hopefully will include the pharmacy. She has a terrible time with the computer. She is in an area with very old cable and the Internet is very slow. Plus, she has an old computer. And, there is no 10 yr old around to help her. LOL

Their songs are predominantly performed in German, but the band also publishes cover songs in English occasionally. Watch Secretary Granholm Get Fact-Checked Live on TV
By Spencer Brown – January 26, 2024 1:30 PM
U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, known for her greatest hits such as laughing about Americans facing record-high gas prices, should probably pay closer attention to what her boss — President Joe Biden — is saying about his energy independence-gutting policies.

Just got this email from one of my U.S. Senators…James E. Risch….
Risch, Cassidy, Senate Republicans Blast Biden Administration for Playing Politics with U.S. Energy
Administration Set to Deliberately Pause U.S. LNG Export Permitting to Court Radical Enviornmental Voters
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Jim Risch (R-Idaho) and Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-La.) led 24 Republican colleagues in blasting the Biden administration’s executive order to re-evaluate the criteria to approve permits for liquified natural gas (LNG) export projects in order to pacify the radical climate lobby. In the letter, the senators also express concerns regarding DOE’s intent to pause all pending non-Free Trade Agreement (FTA) export permit.
“This ‘LNG Plan’ drafted without input from Congress could have significant economic, environmental, and national security consequences domestically and globally. It would be reckless to jeopardize our advantage, especially in a world where energy is frequently being used as a geopolitical weapon,” wrote the senators to Biden and U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm. “ . . . Limiting U.S. LNG exports do not have any impact on the world’s demand for natural gas. Instead, countries including Russia and Iran will simply produce more energy that is subject to less stringent environmental regulations. As a result, limiting American LNG exports in the name of stopping climate change could do just the opposite and add to global emissions.”
“We strongly urge you to stop this shortsighted effort. As the President of the United States and as the Secretary of Energy, you should be championing – not undermining – American LNG exports and the environmental, economic, and national security benefits to the United States and our allies,” wrote the Senators.
Risch and Cassidy were joined by U.S. Senators John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Jerry Moran (R-Kansas), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.), J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Tim Scott (R-S.C.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), and John Kennedy (R-La.) in signing the letter.
