Good mornin’, kids! On this 55th day of January, it is in fact Friday Eve! Coffee’s ready, so drop in and fill up yer Stanley! Based on what I’m already seeing here, we’re gonna need it. 😉

Grey, slightly drippy lightly rainy, cool with warmish breezes. In other words, all we don’t have is snow and sun.

Going to rain hard again in an hour. NO area has flood warnings again.

National Opposite Day – The aim of the day is to have fun all day long saying exactly the opposite of what you really mean. This day has kids rejoicing everywhere. It is also a great day for adults to play along and break out of the winter blues. Maybe we should have dinner for breakfast and breakfast for dinner!

National Florida Day – who doesn’t like what Florida reminds them of?

National Irish Coffee Day – you have permission to start now…

Mornin’, czarina. Does it count if I say the opposite naturally. I’m never sure what’s coming out of my pie-hole at any given moment! It could be true, or from outer space. 😉

Certain Florida politicians celebrate National Opposite Day by drinking Irish Coffees….

When made with an 80-proof whiskey in the measurements given in the recipe, the Irish coffee is relatively gentle at right around 9 percent ABV (18 proof). While the alcohol effect may be minimal, drinking Irish coffee will keep some people awake.

Afternoon All. It is 38* here right now with cloudy skies and some sun.

Loki has not minded the fluffy snow, but now that it has a crust on it, she tends to start walking and her feet go through. That freaks her out. But, she is still ready to go for her walk now that the sidewalks are somewhat clear.

Hope all of you stay safe, dry, and warm.

I learned about the higher LDL on a keto diet. There is a lot more to LDL than your doctor would have you believe (or even understands), and there are tests to measure it. Another aspect is a drop in triglycerides on keto or low carb diets.

Those pamphlets adorning your doctor’s waiting room may portray LDL as a kind of lone gunman taking a bead on your heart, but they hide a basic fact of science: “Bad cholesterol” is at best a poor shorthand for four major types of independently behaving LDL, each with its own implications for heart disease. We ignore the distinctions at our peril.

Some of these forms of LDL are relatively safe and some are dangerous, and treating them all as one and the same — the way we do every time we pay our clinic for a three-part lipid panel that simplistically says “LDL: 125” — is telling us little about the LDL cholesterol that matters, all the while sending health costs through the roof. We may be medicating many people who have no clear need for medication, using drugs that don’t target the right particles, and replacing foods that are benign with foods that are anything but.

I have a friend who decided to cook Ina Garten’s recipes for a month. They are high in butter and cream. At the end of the month she had a doctor appointment and figured her cholesterol would be really high. It actually was much lower but she had put on weight.

After eating a low carb diet, on which I do not limit butter, cream, half and half, bacon, steak etc, my triglycerides and cholesterol both were lower, and I had lost weight.

I cannot do without carbs! I have done best on Sugarbusters, which limits the types of carbs. I need lots of veggies, some meat, and rice/potatoes/pastas/bread. Never miss the fats.

I eat green veg, salads, berries, very small amounts of potatoes, no rice, no pasta, no bread. My breakfast is either eggs, or cottage cheese and berries. Lunch (if I eat one) is egg salad in a low carb wrap with lettuce and tomato. Dinner is a protein (beef or chicken, usually) with a green vegetable and a small baked potato. Tonight I had beef fajitas on low carb tortillas with green tomato salsa, sour cream and green onion.
