    Stellars….

That looks like a nice place to visit! It might be a different Christmas Island, though, as Kiritimati is an atoll; and videos show it as a lot more barren:

CHRISTMAS ISLAND or KIRITIMATI (pronounced Kiri-si-mass)
Christmas Island is the world’s largest coral atoll and part of the Republic of Kiribati. This sparsely populated island of 5000 lies 1200 miles south of Hawaii and 110 miles north of the equator in the center of the Pacific Ocean.

LOL! I found a bunch of photos of Kiritimati that showed volcanic rocks all over the place and I rejected them because they were so ugly. Didn’t have a clue there were several areas of the world called Christmas Island.

It’d be great if this is my last mistake of 2023 but there are still almost 12 hours left in the day!

Life is nothing if not a learning experience.

Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and visit some of the beautiful cities of America. Maybe during the late 40s or early 50s. I love beautiful old architecture and especially admire the stunning millwork from times past, the windows and doors and trim.

Strangely enough, from the pictures I’ve seen, the first city on my list would have been Detroit, especially to see the Art Deco buildings, some of the grand old mansions, and of course, many of the beautiful churches there.

Back in the late 90s, I spent a week in Dearborn (in February, brr,) at a Home Depot class. Of course, that was when it was still inhabited by American working class citizens.

Anyhow, I thought the average homes, mostly brick in the neighborhoods I went through, were beautiful old homes, so lovingly maintained and enjoyed by families. And since I was there on Fat Tuesday, I got a genuine pΔ…czki!

Unfortunately, the church closest to my hotel was a boxy, modern building, and they didn’t even have kneelers. I sure wish I’d been able to go to Ash Wednesday services at one of the old churches.

Our Favorite Sunday Columnist takes a look back at the happenings of the past year or so, and her take is that the scales are slowly falling from the eyes of the brai-dead general public. She feels a bit of optimism that the pendulum might just be swinging back to the right, ever so slowly. Top off your coffee and enjoy the read.

Regarding Collins of the NIH and his lame “apology”, you might find this interesting.

I like this guy. He’s a doctor in San Francisco, of all places.

ADD: He is a professor at the University of California Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. I think he knows what he is talking about.

One comment he made early on about “scientists and masking” is technically true, but Collins, Fauci, et al were politicians first with a science and medical backgrounds.

I saw this the other day regarding Cali offering “healthcare” to over 700,00 illegals. When you get down to the fine print it notes that this will be done via their Medicaid program, which, being an income-based program,, will cover most of them. The other thing about Medicaid is that across the board, Federal funds cover a great deal of that cost, so, once again our tax dollars are paying for these people to get care ahead of you and me. Typically, a state puts in $.25 – $.35 on the dollar, so it will probably explode that $68B deficit and point it towards a nice round $100B very quickly. Which will in turn necessitate a request from Hair-Gel for more of our tax money. Awesome!

I hope that some who are running our military read this article. It’s about the commoditization of the cost of war. How someone like the Houthi’s can create a shipping blockade without a navy, is one example. How Hamas can create problems for Israel with $300 – $400 drones and RPG’s. The bad guys don’t need billions of dollars and sophisticated machinery to take down a Country. What we used to call ingenuity is being turned against the good guys. There’s a lesson here for those who deal with these things.

  11. Good Afternoon All! πŸ™‚

Dear Hubby, after finding out he had cancer, was looking on the internet for happy, funny things. He sent this to me and I have been waiting for months to share it with you. I know Lucille you posted something a few days ago similar, and hope you will also enjoy this. I hope it posts right. It’s been so long since I posted a picture.

I’ll always love you forever my Beloved Dear Hubby & now Guardian Angel. I miss you every hour of every day.

Thank you Stella, and all those who add such lovely, comforting, and happy posts to this website. You have been a comfort to me and I’m sure many, many others. I hope everyone has a joyful, peaceful, healthy New Year. May God bless you all & keep you in the palm of His hand.

      • Hello Wee,
Thank you! It’s good to see you too. I always enjoy your witty posts.
I hope to start posting nice artsy pictures again. Before the house construction & Dear Hubby’s illness started I had a complete set of pics of antique jewelry which is now lost somewhere. However, it will be a nice respite to find new pretty pics to post.
        God Bless

      • Thank You so much Stella, not only for your kind and much appreciated reply, but also all the time consuming work it must take to run this site.

I most definitely do find warmth and comfort here. Thank you. As I’m sure everyone here knows, going through the stages of grief and the hectic things that need to be done after someone dies (and Dear Hubby refused to even talk about death – forget about preparing for it) every minute of the day is busily filled. I finally realized I need to take the time, even a few minutes, to find something nice and completely different to do to take my mind off the tremendous list of things I really must do. It is like the vent on my tea kettle releasing steam.

I have thought for a while I must get back to posting even one nice thing a few times a week here. I really do enjoy posting a series of things. I just need to not get overwhelmed and do it.
        God bless & keep you

PS: Things have changed. They took away my cute round face and gave me an angry one 😦 I’m not an angry person. Someday I’ll have to take the time to figure out how to change that. πŸ˜‰

I just started a pot of bean soup for supper – sort of a Polish/Italian mix. Borlotti (Cranberry) beans that I soaked over night, a can of San Marzano tomatoes, onion, garlic and leftover Kielbasa (with lots of garlic!) It sure smells good.

Every Christmas one of my nieces-in-law sends me a daily calendar. The following is the quote from this last day of 2023….

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and His glory appears over you.” – Isaiah 60:1-2

As we finish off the old year with a celebration at midnight to welcome the new, let us remember what Jesus told his followers….

God bless and keep us all, this merry little band of friends and conservatives!

Not everyone at Harvard thinks the cheater should stay. This from a student on the Honor Council who submitted an op-ed to the school paper. They highlight the double-standard not afforded to students who do the same thing that Sliced Bread did on her way to the top.
