Lucille, I spent some time this morning looking at one of my bestest–coffee table books–this one presenting Terry Redlin’s art work, based on his growing up years in rural South Dakota in the 1940s/50s. Grant and I purchased several of his pieces (the less expensive versions/framings) during the years we were in MN.
Redlin’s art museum and original paintings are in Watertown, SD, right along I-29.
You came to mind as I was looking at the good stuff, with the thought that the subject of his art work might ring familiar bells for you; although, as I think about it, I suspect the memories of many of us–at least a portion of those memories–would be right at home with Redlin’s memories of small towns, sunsets, deer-hunting/duck-hunting, children flying kites….all the good stuff.
The particular book I was looking at is “Master of Memories” –

This third link shows one of the larger prints we got–it looked so much like the country in which Grant grew up in, in Ottertail County, MN–and reminded him of young years with his brothers–getting for duck and geese hunting in the fall….

Not much rain here either. Got just a light rain for maybe 30 minutes last week. There are fires on two of the mountains that surround our valley, they’ve been burning for days, and the smoke is hanging here in the valley.

Good day, Czarina! Perhaps playing outside with your pet bison is a charitable idea before you start making the Southern-fried chicken for the community dinner along with serving that special chocolate candy you bought for your Halloween party and decided to distribute at the dinner instead.
Mr. Bison is thankful that the chickens get the opportunity to fill the participants’ stomachs instead of himself. He’s been told that bison meat is delicious but he’s not ready to go yet.

Well, Texan, I decided several years ago to stop changing the clocks and now just have to remember which clocks are on daylight savings time and which on REAL time. The bedroom alarm clock is the only one that’s changed forward and backward consistently.

Some European Nordic countries are finally waking up and figuring out that all those poor oppressed Muslims they let in their country, are not real good at contributing to society. Let’s see if they can put the toothpaste back in the tube.

The d’s are consistent. Doesn’t matter if we put Mother Teresa up there, they will be all over them within 24 hours. Takes a few minutes for them to get their hymnal put together for all the songs that must be sung. But once they’re ready, they will beat that horse until long after it’s dead. IYKWIM

I’m not dyed-in-the-wool anti-union across the board, particularily in the trades, but I had never heard the term “salting” before. If this is how they think they’re going to win over this Country, by planting activists in places like Amazon and Starbucks, and then saving the poor workers, I don’t think it’s a good long-term strategery! Especially once the barista or sandwich artist realizes the union is gonna take money back out of they check……….

In reality, the only thing rising in FL is the value of real estate, and not the oceans so much, according to the former Grand Poobah of Google. He just bought two oceanfront lots for over $60MM. I don’t think the glo-bull warming threat of the oceans rising and swallowing up his investment is what he’s worried about. Although he will talk a good game about it.

There are houses on them currently and the total is 1.2 acres. According to the NY Post, Mar-A-Lago sits on 20 acres. DJT may be right, that property may get close to $1B.

Afternoon All. It was 35* and raining when we got up this morning. Also it is overcast grey, not like last year when we had a white overcast most of the time. I need lights in the house. Also, it rained and is still raining, only lightly and the snow is almost gone. It’s gonna be a different winter this year.

This is an entertaining program posted by Wyoming PBS about the Lincoln Highway. When I was about 10 years old, we traveled through Wyoming on our way to California (one of several trips). At a restaurant in Cheyenne, I met real cowboys, and one of them gave me a silver dollar! He said that he had a ranch on the Snake River. Memories!
